Passion at its peak with Kaamya Karthikeyan

Inspired by her father’s mountaineering activities, Kaamya started trekking in the Sahyadris from a tender age of three. Her Himalayan odyssey started at the age of seven, with Kaamya embarking on a high altitude trek to Chandrashila Peak (12000 ft) in 2015. Since, she has achieved three world records, six national awards and recognitions and is a multifaceted artist.

A brilliant individual in every way. An explorer, inspiring everyone who reads or hears about her. Interviewing Kaamya was an honor. There's more coming our way so, stay tuned. We'd like to wish Kaamya all the best in all her endeavors and her upcoming expedition in Alaska. Special thanks to her for taking the time to share her beliefs and thoughts with us.

Fashion meets service is an interesting characteristic of Sakriya, an initiation by Ms Anitha Rao in 2017. We had the privilege of interviewing her and let me just say, she is a force to reckon with. Like many, she’s experienced career shifts too, from being a successful air hostess who’s traveled to over 63 countries, to one of the most appreciated social influencers of Namma Bengaluru.

Welcome to Akalpur is a fantastic hindi adaptation of 'Fools', directed by the very famous, Mr Neil Simon. Interesting fact, Neil Simon happened to put this play together during the course of his divorce. He didn’t expect it to do very well. Somewhere inside he probably didn’t want it to do too well either since his profits from the play were supposed to go to his wife, as a legal settlement.

We interviewed Nikhil Chaudhary, a growing director of theater plays, and asked him multiple questions that relate to being an actor and director of theater plays, managing a full-time job and the advantages to using creativity as a key medium of education, today and for our future generations. Truly enjoyed the session with Nikhil and his direction.

Menstrual art has been around since the 1970s. Sometimes also called Menstrala, a term and form of art coined by an artist by the name Vanessa Tiegs. An art form used to create awareness, challenge restrictions, and restructure discussions around it. Women are unable to come out and say, “I’m in pain today, can you help me? Men should be able to take charge and make her feel comfortable in any way possible.

Kathaās is a platform to showcase art as an in-built skill and encourage expressive art therapy/activities as a lifestyle, for all. To enable this we bring forth real stories from our history and in the modern world, detailed with both scientific and spiritual benefits, of expressive art.

Even with all the awareness created around mental health, we still hesitate to use those words. I believe that more individuals who do this for the purpose itself and not just for CSR agendas, will be the strongest route to this change. This episode is with Mr Ramesh Venkateswaran, chairman and volunteer at Vishwas, a society for mental health. His book The Happiness Trail, is a simple and connectable read. The idea behind self-actualization has been clearly established and i'm hoping more people are able to read through. Either to transform themselves or help someone who can use it.

Expressive art, for the artist within you

In 1974, professor Shaun McNiff created the expressive therapies program. He called it ‘art-based knowing’. Expressive therapies or creative art therapies, came into existence during the Egyptian era. Neuroscience as we all understand it, is the study of the brain’s activity or impact on behavior and the flexibility of human cognition. Researchers in this field have observed the effect of calming music on one’s mental state and immune system, by increasing sustainability of the latter. So, let's try to understand the intent and effect of this ancient practise that seems to have been lost in this journey, of time.
