La transition vers un Canadien à la fois plus jeune et plus talentueux pourrait passer l’an prochain par l’ajout de Nick Suzuki, mais saura-t-on lui faire une place et si oui, laquelle exactement? Plusieurs amateurs ne seraient pas fâchés qu’il décroche un poste sur le top-9 si cela devait coïncider avec un échange impliquant Jonathan Drouin. Or, le Tricolore n’a pas beau jeu d’échanger l’un des joueurs les plus habiles après une saison où sa valeur a été malmenée.

Arpon is back from the most significant road trip of the Canadiens’ season and discusses contrasts and similarities in the consequences of that game in Columbus and how the Blue Jackets’ response to the grand stage said a lot about both teams. Also: will Jonathan Drouin ever be someone who can drive the bus or will he always be a co-pilot? Was Claude Julien right to sit Jesperi Kotkaniemi and what does he do now that his replacement as third line centre, Jordan Weal, played so well? And finally, with Josh Brook, Ryan Poehling and Cayden Primeau signing their first pro contracts, does any of what’s happening now even matter with the future of the team arriving?

There are a few things we’ve heard just about enough of: that Carey Price’s franchise record for wins doesn’t hold any weight, and that the Canadiens would be better off missing the playoffs. Price is well deserving of the record and the Canadiens, as long as they round into form during the home stretch, will be deserving of a playoff spot. But there is no denying that the team will need to lean on its biggest star to earn that spot, especially since the 5-on-5 production has been trending down since the All-Star break and that the blue line – starting with Shea Weber and Jordie Benn – has been shaky. Many stars need to align, but hockey at this time of the year is fun. Both players and fans should take it as such.

Après avoir complété un séjour à domicile, le Canadien s'envole pour un périple de six rencontres interrompu par le congé de Noël. L'équipe affrontera cette semaine les Coyotes de l'Arizona de même que les Golden Knights de Vegas, ce qui donnera à ces deux formations la chance de revoir pour une première fois dans leur fief d'anciens porte-couleurs, soit Max Domi (Arizona) et Tomas Tatar (Vegas). Les bénéfices de ces deux transactions ont été immédiats pour le Tricolore, mais il fait bon se pencher plus en détails sur les rouages de ces deux échanges et de ce qu'ils ont rapportés aux formations impliquées.

Now the up-and-coming Colorado Avalanche come to the Bell Centre on Tuesday night and this team could be an inspiration for the Canadiens. Colorado struggled mightily for two seasons but their retool already seems to be paying dividends. A lesson to be learned there?

Ça sent dangereusement le roussi pour le Canadien. Claude Julien peut-il se permettre de gérer davantage ses effectifs en fonction du mérite et d'ôter des responsabilités à ceux qui se contentent de demi-mesures? Pas vraiment, nous a-t-il avoué. On vous explique pourquoi.
Pendant ce temps, les partisans ont envoyé un message clair au retour du CH au Centre Bell en lui réservant un accueil pour le moins tranquille. À qui exactement s'adressait le message?
Et alors que le Tricolore continue de s'enliser, plusieurs joueurs devront être meilleurs, et vite. Et d'autres, Karl Alzner en tête, devront commencer à prendre de meilleures décisions pour ne pas mettre l'équipe encore plus dans le pétrin.
