Veronica Blair has studied with some of the most celebrated and prominent artists in her field, including trapeze great LaNorma Fox, Ringling Bros. first African-American Aerialist Pa-Mela Hernandez, and the renowned “God Father of the Tissu” Gérard Fasoli of Centre National des Arts du Cirque / Cnac.

Veronica has since performed with several other renowned groups and productions around the globe such as AntiGravity, Universal Studios Japan and Warner Bros. Music. She has been a part of Germany’s most successful circus show, “AFRIKA! AFRIKA!”, and was the lead aerialist in KAMAU’s “BooDha” music video with over 100k views on YouTube.

Expanding her portfolio beyond performing, Veronica launched the development of “The Uncle Junior Project” in 2010. The ongoing documentary shines a light on the careers of African-American circus performers, including Emanual “Uncle Junior” Ruffin who remained largely uncredited for his contributions to American Circus until after his death. In 2017 she was invited to speak at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival about her experience as producer and director of “The Uncle Junior Project”, and served as organizer and moderator on a panel highlighting the African-American circus experience. She’s also worked with the African-American Art and Culture Complex to stage Entrapment to Entertainment: A Celebration of Blacks in American Circus, a three month exhibition that ran from October, 2013 – January 2014 with over 1,000 attendees.

Veronica Blair is presently an aerial performer, instructor and aerial director at Celebrity Cruises Productions.

Mental Health First Aid for Circus:

Mental health struggles have been stigmatized in western culture, and in many athletic and other training spaces for generations. However, they are just as common as physical health struggles. This workshop helps coaches and students to dismantle stigma, and learn skills for supporting their students’ and classmates’ mental health while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Participants will gain vocabulary, specific strategies, and a better understanding of how common mental health difficulties can impact circus humans. You will leave feeling more confident and empowered to care for your community members even when they’re struggling, and with resources for when their needs exceed your capacity or your role.

Janelle is a professional #contortionist, #aerialist, and coach based in Denver, Colorado.
Janelle is an artistic chameleon, and adapts to a wide variety of roles, genres and theatrical tones. She has choreographed and performed in solo and ensemble acts, collaborating across the United States as well as internationally.

Christopher Phi was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area, and theater and #acrobatics has been his life since he was eight years old. He competed in tumbling for four years, earning national titles, and in 2005 Chris was hired to help create the show Le Reve in Las Vegas by Franco Dragone, where he performed until 2010. For the next few years he traveled and gigged across the world; finally coming back to Las Vegas in 2013 to join the cast of Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystère”. In happier times, Chris can be seen performing as Yellow or Red Bird in this iconic, 26 years-young show.

She is the creator of the Aerial Instructor Enhancement Program, a 6-week, interactive, online course for instructors to gain confidence in their teaching, while adding creative techniques to their classes. In the Spring of 2021, Gena will launch her Aerial Hoop Teacher Training, a full aerial hoop curriculum that she has curated over the last 8 years.

This weeks episode of the Live Like An #Acrobat #Podcast, Host Shenea Stiletto interviews Lisa Anieva founder of #Dancing Is My Voice who's mission is to provide forums where sexual violence #survivors can find healing through connection to a supportive community, creative public expression, resources for hope and healing, and strength-building physical movements such as dance. Each year they host an annual Zumbathon® Charity Event during National Hispanic Heritage Month (mid September to mid October). This event attempts to gather enough people on the National Mall in Washington, DC to break the Guinness Book of World Records for largest Zumba® class while raising awareness of sexual violence.

Lisa Anieva has worked over 1,000 hours on the National Sexual #Assault Hotline operated by #RAINN (#Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) and is a volunteer for the RAINN Speaker’s Bureau. She is an NACP Certified #Advocate with a designation of Sexual Assault Intervention Specialist. Her formal education includes an MBA from the George Washington University, a BS in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and her fitness certifications include PGA Global Certified Personal Trainer, AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor and Red Cross certification in CPR/AED/First Aid/Pediatric First Aid. Lisa is also licensed to teach many formats of #Zumba.

Originally from Akron, Ohio, and dancing since high school, Lamonte now calls Los Angeles his home and has appeared in films, commercials, TV shows, as well as music videos for notorious artists, like Rihanna, Shakira, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Wyclef Jean. A champion of the belief that anyone can do anything they put their mind to, Lamonte creates with the purpose to inspire. This keeps him growing, and he hopes to successfully pass on this philosophy to his students.
A self taught dancer with love for atypical movement and anything that can be considered as out of ordinary and unique, Lamonte has been performing in live showcases and competitions since 1996. He is also an internationally-recognized handstand and arm balancing expert. Lamonte takes pride in teaching and holds workshops and clinics in Los Angeles and allover the world. He vigorously trains himself daily, competes and performs. His creativity is deeply inspired by art, architecture, nature and the fluidity of the human body and what it can produce when, together with the mind, it is pushed beyond the limit.

Goode is available for private lessons as well as group workshops and demonstrations anywhere in the world and aspires to share his knowledge and expand the minds and bodily strength of others through his revolutionary practice. Cyberyoga, at the moment, encompasses two different types of classes. The first focuses on unique movement and advanced inversions, core control, strength building, coordination, headstands and the traditional art of hand balancing. The second offers innovative dance movement through a fusion of abstract breakdance, contemporary, modern and acrobatic movement. All classes are for all levels. The only prerequisite is an open mind and the desire to extend the abilities of your body.

CSAW - Connecting Circus Students Around the World is committed to taking action against #racism in the circus #community. CSAW launched an Indiegogo Fundraiser on July 1st called “CSAW Microgrants for US Circus Artist of Color.”
They are raising $15,000 to actively support #representation and #equality for the #future of circus.

Once the money is raised, #grantees will be chosen through an application process and reviewed by a selection #committee composed entirely of circus #artists of color. These grants will be available for circus artists of color to #pay for circus #education (private lessons, tuition fees, audition expenses, etc) or other circus pursuits - shows, videos, any project that has an immediate need for funding and meets the application criteria. They're hoping to provide one #grant each month September 2020 - August 2021!

2. A new rule clarification that states mixed pairs will be allowed to alternate top and base positions at any competitive level.

In an effort to be #inclusive to LGBTQIA athletes now and in the future as well as dismantling #gender #stereotypes and #discrimination in our #sport.
