Every once in a while you come across an idea so simple, you wonder why you didn’t think of it earlier. And so it was, when four Sunshine Coast macadamia growers passionate about their product founded Nutworks in 1993. The idea? To create a central facility purpose-built to crack and sort the region’s macadamias for supply to local businesses.

As a result of this kernel of an idea, Nutworks was born. The original processing plant was built in the Noosa Hinterland at Verrierdale, and supplied hand-sorted raw kernel to local stores for roasting and flavouring.

As with all great business ideas, it didn’t take long for the venture to really take off. Due to ever increasing demand for Nutworks’ products, a new processing factory was built in Yandina in 1996 to enable significantly higher production volumes. As part of the major redevelopment, a café, retail shop and tourist facilities were also incorporated into the new Nutworks.

What’s more, 2002 saw a further evolution as Nutworks began production of chocolate and confectionery products. As a result, our wide variety of chocolates and sweets now form an integral part of our range.

Welcome Sarah...

And so from humble beginnings, Nutworks has now grown to employ over 60 people. Our products are exported worldwide, and we are recognised globally for our commitment to quality. We will continue to grow, but will always remain faithful to the passion instilled in our company by our founders over 20 years ago.

Hosted on Acast.

This week Roz chats with John Cochrane from Kenilworth Dairies.

Kenilworth Dairies has a rich history in the dairy industry. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Mary Valley and Sunshine Coast hinterland it is no wonder our products are fresh and full of passion. The dairy industry is nothing new to fourth generation dairy farmer, John Cochrane. Originally from Kin Kin, John was taught the ‘ins and outs’ of dairying from his Father and Mother, Alan and Mavis Cochrane. For the past 93 years a Cochrane has represented Queensland dairy farmers on various dairy boards, a real testament to the family’s passion and commitment to the industry. As many farmers know, dairy farming is hard and only for the truly passionate. Over the years John watched as many of his neighbours and friends sold their properties to stay afloat. A locavore is a person who chooses to consume food that is grown, raised, or produced locally, usually within 200 kilometres from home.

A 'Locavore' connects food consumers with the food producers within a small targeted radius developing better food networks, improving local economies and enriching health, environmental, community and social impacts. Local products not only keep money in our community, they make it from ‘paddock to plate’ in the shortest possible time frame to ensure the freshest possible product at a great price! Where ever possible we support local suppliers. You too can support local businesses who supply our stores with a range of goods. The next time you are in our stores look out for the local logo as it’s your ‘ticket’ to purchasing a quality locally produced or grown product.

Become A Locavore

Follow White's IGA on Facebook

Follow White's IGA on Instagram

Hosted on Acast.
