This podcast explores one of the most revealing scenes in Men? The Musical, the Personal Elevation event. We continue the story on from episode 10.Jennifer (our lead female character) along with friends Laila and Zahida have all arrived hoping, in one way or another, to discover something about themselves.

They’ve reached a point where they know something in their life needs to change, but they don’t know how to change it. They’re feeling stuck in old patterns, old habits, old ways of thinking and they’re looking for a new perspective that can help them move forward.

And perhaps many of them don’t yet realise that the greatest breakthrough won’t happen during one of the workshops. It will happen when they’re willing to look honestly at themselves with the new knowledge they will receive at this powerful personal elevation event.

Pamela and Steven introduce a thought provoking song from MEN? The Musical called It’s Your Life. - It asks difficult questions - It challenges excuses - It asks us to stop looking outward at others and begin looking inward for answers. Personal elevation rarely begins with changing somebody else. It begins with changing ourselves.

Today’s podcast explores the only salsa class in history where a discussion about dance turns into a debate about culture, relationships, workplace dynamics, social expectations, and one very confused dance instructor! The scene is funny because Jennifer’s reaction is completely out of proportion to what’s actually happening.

Carlos, the salsa instructor, simply explains that in salsa the man traditionally leads and the woman follows. So, Jennifer should simply let her dance partner Paddy lead.

For Carlos, it’s just a dance. For Jennifer, it’s apparently a United Nations summit on gender politics.

There is of course a serious point; why do we frequently accept an idea just because that’s the way its always been done ?

Nigel is comical, though psychologically fascinating. He represents: Social inexperience, late emotional rebellion, Nigel’s behaviour isn’t confident. He’s trying to make up for lost time. Fast and reckless.

• Zahida isn’t wrong, she’s reacting and reactions often come from wounds that haven’t healed yet.

• Her journey isn’t about rejecting men. It’s about rediscovering trust.
