Ann Thompson travelled back to Shepparton for an interview about her life with her beautiful boys Wayne and Peter, who were raised at Coomboona.

Both were diagnosed with the rare but fatal genetic condition San Filippo Syndrome as toddlers, and Ann bravely recounts life with her sons and their demise.

After the interview she was headed to Mooroopna Cemetry to tidy their graves. Her playlist was beautiful and moving and included the classic Storms Never Last. Because somehow, no matter how bad they seem, they don't last.

When I asked community champion Patricia Moran (Pat) to come on the Back Story, I expected to go back in time to cover her life journey.

But I didn't expect to go back quite as far as the 1800s – but we did, and it's fascinating. Pat's great grandparents came out to Australia from England to Victoria on the infamous 'fever' or 'plague' ship of 1852.

It's probably remarkable this octogenarian was even born. We also talk about her life with late husband Bernie and the birth of her six children, including stillborn Keith.

Terri Cowley spoke with her as part of her Shepplife One FM program.

Shepp born and bred, Leanne Raditsas is a quiet achiever in our community who has worked behind the scenes for many groups, including the Shepparton Festival and our hospital.

The electoral officer for our Independent Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed, Leanne was born with a potentially fatal condition and might not have survived if she wasn't airlifted to Melbourne and helped by a clever doctor.

She partly grew up in the disco era in the then-grand Shepparton Hotel that her parents owned at the time, and she's bravely battled and overcome alopecia.

Terri spoke with Leanne as part of her Shepplife series on One FM.

It's now more than 15 years since Allan's beautiful daughter Zaidee, 7, a student at Orrvale Primary School, died following a brain aneurism.

Somehow Allan's wife Kim had the bravery to remember that Zaidee had said she would donate her organs, so that's what Allan and Kim did, allowing several others to live.

The foundation remains true to its original mission of raising awareness of organ donation, chiefly through the sale of the now iconic rainbow laces.

Terri spoke to Allan as part of the Shepplife program on One FM.

Madi is 16 years old, and for as long as she can remember, her mum Peita has lived with an eating disorder.

It began in her early 20s with binge eating disorder – a psychological illness marked by the frequent, excessive consumption of food.

But after undergoing weight loss surgery, the mental illness which had ruled her life took on a new, equally sinister persona: anorexia nervosa.

But it wasn’t until she collapsed at Madi's 14th birthday that she realised something was seriously wrong.

This is their story.

Since he was 15 years old, Jacob has lived with anorexia and an exercise addiction.

In the 13 years since, he has been admitted to hospital six times, his body holding on for dear life.

Mental illness can be a lonely road for men.

But when it comes to eating disorders, it’s even more isolating.

While media can be dominated by stereotypes of young, wealthy, white women, statistics show Jacob is anything but alone.

One in three Australians who experience an eating disorder are male.

But while the numbers are significant, the stigma is even greater.

Although he’s willing to share his story, Jacob still can’t bring himself to share his name.

But he hopes by speaking up, he can empower other men to do the same.

This is Jacob’s story.

While they have very different personalities, they have one shared experience – they are both living with an eating disorder.

Diagnosed with anorexia nervosa in their teens, the years since have been a whirlwind of treatments and clinics for the 23-year-old sisters.

But they are tangible proof there is hope and freedom after an eating disorder – even if the fight is never fully over.

Jayme McCrae has been homeless for five months.

Until two weeks ago, he was couch-surfing but now, he lives in his car, parked in the Euroa Service Centre car park.

He's on the desperate search for a house, but because of the region's painfully tight rental market, has come up empty handed again and again.

As part of Homelessness Week, News reporter Charmayne Allison spent time with Jayme, listening to his story and gaining an insight into this local crisis.
