On the podcast, we are joined by local author Dave Proudlove who talks to us about his new book- Work and Play, The Industrial Roots of English Football.

As it says on the tin, the book looks at the industrial roots of the English game right across the spectrum from Manchester United and Stoke City down to the likes of Frickley Athletic and Easington Colliery Welfare.

Not only do we talk about the book including how the book came about and some of the exciting stories that readers can look forward to, we touch on a couple of teams close to Dave’s heart in Stoke City following their 6-1 win over Portsmouth on Wednesday night and Alsager Town ahead of their trip to Cammell Laird 1907 (a team that features in Dave’s book) at the weekend.

On the podcast this week, we look back on a Busy Bank Holiday Monday as we featured three matches on a special edition of the sport show.

Dave Lee was at the Red Industries Stadium as Newcastle Town took on Nantwich Town where two goals from Tom Pratt gave the Dabbers a 2-1 victory. After the match, Dave Lee caught up with the two managers- Paul Carden and Neil Baker.

Meanwhile, I was at the Cleric Stadium for Congleton Town vs. Kidsgrove Athletic where two goals from Max McCarthy won this game for the Bears. You can hear my post-match interview with Richard Duffy and Anthony Malbon from after the match.

Our featured game was Leek Town’s trip to Matlock Town in the NPL Premier. The Blues came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 to grab three important points after late defeats against Mickleover and Gainsborough Trinity. After the game, Josh Brehaut spoke to Moorlands Radio about the match.

Finally, James Marsh caught up with Justin Mould of Bagnell Norton Cricket Club following the impressive win over Leek in the North Staffs and South Cheshire Cricket League.

For this week’s episode, we dispatched Dave and Dylan Lee down to Wembley Stadium for Crewe Alexandra’s League Two playoff final against Crawley Town. We hear what they made of the day at the National Stadium for the Railwaymen.

Meanwhile, it was the Sentinel Cup finals over the weekend- on Friday Greenhoffs defeated FC Lambourne at Hanley Town and we caught up with Mick Clark, one of the managers of Greenhoffs after they ran out 5-0 winners.

Then on Monday, it was the under 18s final as Leek Town took on Newcastle Town at Stoke City’s bet365 stadium. A 2-2 draw in normal time was followed up by Leek winning on penalties. Afterwards we caught up with the two managers- Barry Sargeant of Leek Town and Gav Appleby of Newcastle Town.

Speaking of Leek Town, Dave Stringer caught up with 1st team midfielder Tom Scully to discuss mental health after Scully opened up about it in a recent newspaper article.

Finally, Dave caught up with Leek Cricket Club captain Alex Mellor as they continued their fine start to the season.

On this week’s episode we bring you three interviews on an important week for the local football scene.

First up we hear from Newcastle Town manager Neil Baker as Castle defeated 2nd place Prescot Cables in the Northern Premier League West. A fine 3-0 victory for the men from the Red Industries Stadium as they look to push into the top half of the league table.

That win for Newcastle meant that if Leek defeated Prescot on Tuesday night then it would allow them to open up a 10 point gap on the Cables in the league table.

They duly obliged as Marc Grocott’s goal on the hour mark was the difference between the two sides in an important victory for Josh Brehaut’s men.

After the game, Terry Boote caught up with Josh in our absence and allowed us to use his interview.

Finally, Port Vale appointed Darren Moore as their new manager on Tuesday afternoon and the following day we were invited to Vale Park to interview the new gaffer and, you can hear his thoughts in the podcast.

Buxton, of the Vanarama National League North, host Merthyr Town (Southern League Premier South) at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium this weekend in the 1st round.
