Cuban pianist Ramón Valle emigrated to the Netherlands in part because of the country’s liberal jazz scene. In his impressionistic playing, latin, classical and jazz music merge seamlessly. Reinier Baas' guitar playing is also fluid - not too smooth, but apparently effortless. He likes to defy expectations, challenge his fellow musicians and mislead listeners. Naturally, Valle and Baas have common grounds, but it is precisely the juxtaposition of Valle's impressionistic playing and Baas’ adventurous streak which makes for an exciting musical exchange of ideas.


The conversation is partly in English and partly in Dutch.

De van oorsprong Cubaanse pianist Ramón Valle is Cubaan emigreerde naar Nederland vanwege de vrijzinnige jazzscene. In zijn impressionistische spel vloeien Latin, klassiek en jazz rimpelloos in elkaar over. Vloeiend is ook het gitaarspel van Reinier Baas – niet gladjes, wel ogenschijnlijk moeiteloos. Als muzikant speelt hij graag met verwachtingspatronen, daagt zijn medespeler uit en zet de luisteraar met veel genoegen op het verkeerde been.
