Also we talk about the idea of fate in the hands of a sovereign God who rules over all creation and over all time. Everything submits to His will and nothing is beyond His control. Furthermore, while we all try and escape death, death will eventually find us all and we will all die one day. For the Christian, though, this death is not fatal as we will rise with Christ if we die with Him. Our resurrection comes in our dying to the self for the sake of the Gospel.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. (Ephesians 1:3-4, ESV)

But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:20-23, ESV)

Then we compare and contrast a life lived according to the Flesh and a life lived according to the Spirit. The two stand in opposition to each other and do not get along. We can only follow one or the other. Furthermore, the Fruit of the Spirit are a result of the Spirit’s work within us and not something we concur up on our own. 

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodne ss, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires (Galatians 5:16-24, ESV)

On this week’s episode Danny and Caleb take a question from Matthew H. about how to get into eschatology. We look at what it means ot get into it and what are some good resources and approaches to looking at the end times. Then we discuss the recent events in Israel with the escalating conflict to determine what the Christian should do and how we should best interpret Romans 11 and the people of God. Also, Danny reveals some deep seeded brokenness because of course he does. 

Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”; “and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins.” As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all. Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. (Romans 11:25-36)

The church throughout history wrestles with pressure from the culture seeping in and getting our attention off of Christ and on serving ourselves. When we compare this to the growing Christian presence in the Middle East, we find an odd contrast from a church with all the blessings and abilities but a lack of conviction and a church being persecuted endlessly that is thriving. We look at the cause behind this and how we can engage in our faith while not caving in to the pressure of the world around us. 

And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation. “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 3:14-15, ESV)

The Christian works in the understanding that light shines even in the darkness and the darkness is unable to overcome it. So often the world can seem as if darkness is winning. However, we must continue to hold our heads up high and understand that God created the heavens, earth, and everything in it and will be victorious no matter what. 

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.(John 1:1-5, ESV)

The Christian’s call is to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Jesus. Many people say this phrase, but do we actually know what it means. Christians need to encouragement one another in all of our relationships. Whether it be a mentor, a peer, or a mentee, everyone needs to encourage one another at some point. Just as Paul did in all of his letters to the churches, there is a longing to be with others in the body of Christ and encourage one another according to the Gospel. 

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. (1 Thessalonians 1:1-10, ESV)

Discipline from God’s perspective is not something meant to keep us down, strip us of our divinity or condemn us. It comes from the same place as a Father who loves his children disciplines them out of love. For the Christian, we must willingly accept the love of God that comes in the form of discipline. Furthermore, this differs from condemnation which tells us we are worthless whereas discipline simply seeks to make us more like our Heavenly Father. 

“Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:3-11, ESV)

Caleb and Danny talk about how the Christian should respond to the increase in cultural darkness that seems to be becoming more and more prominent. Rather than simply just calling a thing sinful and dark, we must be graceful in our approach. And rather than just being silent, we must actually be willing to engage and call out darkness for what it is while seeking to bring people into the light.

The church, though, functions in a different manner. Each one of us is called to serve the body of Christ, impact the ministry field of our community, and glorify God with every part of our identity and being. We all have been given gifts and and identity for the purpose of God in our every day life and we will never find fulfillment and joy until that purpose is complete. 

“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” (Ephesians 4:11-16, ESV)

Then we look at how a Christian can be more discerning with what they put their attention on. We are new creations in Jesus Christ and the old person is dead. Yet, many of us continue to live as if the dead person still has life. For the Christian, a redeemed life should reflect the glory of God and our lives should be changed as we allow God to be Lord and King over all aspects of our life. 

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4, ESV)

Matthew H. writes in with a question whether God views the good deeds of non-believers. While the acts might be good does the heart behind the person doing the actions impact the way God views the good works of man. This multifaceted question actually breaks down two different questions about non-believers doing good things and non-believers being good. 

“For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.” (Romans 2:12-16, ESV)

Prayer, for the Christian is the act of pouring out of our heart before God. Yet, often times, our temptation is to make it a spectacle by making it about us rather than giving glory of God. While this can be difficult to determine the heart behind a person’s prayer, we must be check our own heart to ensure that we are submitting to God as our King and approaching Him as our Father. 

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this:“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:5-15, ESV)

With the news of Christian Pastor and Teacher Ravi Zacharias, Danny and Caleb deal with the the news that someone we looked up to lead an entirely different life than what we originally expected. It seems as though, at some point, the organization became more about protecting the reputation of its founder rather than proclaiming the Gospel. We talk about what it means to allow ourselves to become nothing in order that Christ could become glorified through everything we do. We see this first in the struggle of John the Baptist and supposed competition with Jesus’ ministry. 

Now a discussion arose between some of John’s disciples and a Jew over purification. And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him.” John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.’ The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:25-30, ESV)

In response, many have sought to retaliate against Disney+ by canceling their subscription. Many people have often said “Just think happy thoughts and it will make your life happy.” Yet, for many people this just doesn’t seem to work. Those can come only from God and the pursuit of financial gain as the end all of human existence will only result in a person wandering from their faith.

The role of the Christian involves proclaiming the Gospel in whatever context we find ourselves in. With the events of the past year, we have a profound opportunity to share the Gospel with the world around us. We should hold fast to the Gospel while also being willing to adapt to the culture around us. 

“For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them. To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.” (1 Corinthians 9:19-21, ESV)

Children and Student’s ministry curriculum seems to have a bent towards moralism. This idea puts the action before the Gospel, thinking that the immediacy of a person’s action is more pressing than the eternal destiny of the person. This, is problematic to say the least. Danny and Caleb turn to Ephesians 2 to unpack exactly where our salvation stems from and what role our actions place. Ultimately, we should seek to give glory to God for all we do and that we are IN CHRIST as we receive the love of God. 

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:4-10, ESV)

We have to address why invading the Capitol building and the Christian faith is incompatible. We should love our enemies. This year, we as Christians have the profound ability to be the light of God to the world around us. Since everything seems dark, there is no better time to be the light of the world.

The boys of Nobody Special talk about the spiritual side of Christmas that often times is skipped over. While the incarnation is incredibly important and shouldn’t be downplayed, the spiritual aspect of Christmas was enough to make the angel burst out into song in response to the coming of God and His glory. Also, we talk about the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 and Warner Brother movies coming to HBO Max.

Jesus tells the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. Both die and stand before the Lord. The Rich Man, who denied Jesus, wanted to warn his friends and family about the coming wrath. But they already had their warning with Moses and the prophets. The council of scripture pushes us to act today. One life can make a huge difference and huge impact. 

There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house— for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.(‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:19-31‬ ‭ESV)‬

As we kick of this Christmas/Advent season, we give props to Justin Bieber for being more open and honest about his faith and public declaration that Jesus loves us. Then we go on to talk about the announcement from the angel Gabriel to Mary that she would become pregnant with child. God took on flesh and choose to be with us as both Fully God and Fully Man and died on the cross for our sins to establish our eternity. 

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. (Luke 1:26-33, ESV)

With the recent struggles with censorship on Facebook and Twitter, many have taken to switching to Parler and MeWe as the new conservative, censorship free media platforms. Danny looks at whether this idea is a good

Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. Mandalorian is back and this time, its very much like the previous season. Still good and we loved it. It continues the story of the Mandalorian’s journey to reunite Baby Yoda with the Jedi. In this first episode, the people of a small town in Tatooine must unite with the Tusken Raiders to defeat a dragon. Then we talk about who the enemy in our spiritual battle is and how we should not turn on one another. There is a spiritual battle and it is not against flesh and blood. 

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:10-13‬ ‭ESV)

Everyone to some extent struggles with wearing masks while we try and approach God. Yet, it is God who tells us to approach Him in confidence and understanding that when we come to Him, we can come as we are while not staying there. God wants us to come to Him and He will care for us and reveal Himself to us for His glory. Christ is even in the struggle.

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.” (Isaiah 55:1-5, ESV)

Trusting in the Lord comes from being humble, understanding that the things we can do are a grace of God to do them and the things we cannot do are a chance to glorify God by trusting in Him. It is through God that we can do anything and everything we can do comes from trusting Him. Caleb and Danny tell the stories of trusting in God and where they have needed to have faith in Him the most.

It seems that this culture is struggling with anxiety and stress. Even Caleb and Danny are not immune to the struggles and difficulties that come from stress. On this episode we talk about anxiety, how we notice it in ourselves and how we deal with the pressure we face. In our experience, so much of our reaction comes from centering our vision on the Lord even in the middle of difficult times.

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”(‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:4-8‬ ‭ESV) 

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.”(‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:4-6‬ ‭ESV)

Caleb and Danny got to spend some time in Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida where we learn Danny’s true feelings on roller coasters. Also, we touch on the vice presidential debates and what happened and why is no one yelling, this is a debate! Finally we talk about Rooster Teeth and the recent allegations and drama that has occurred with this internet superstar company (albeit definitely not Christian content, full disclosure). We look at the problems of fame and whether the Christian should even pursue fame as a means of living. 

“Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. The first presidential debate has occurred and America seems to be almost in agreement, that was a dumpster fire of a debate. Andrew and Danny discuss the impact of the debate and the example being set by the leadership of both potential presidents. Then we turn our attention to what it means to demonstrate the love of Christ in this circumstance. We have an opportunity to be the light of the world to those around us by showing the world the love we have founded on the hope of Jesus Christ.

When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once. Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:31-35, ESV)

Netflix has some new movies coming out. No, not that one. Hubie Halloween comes out this Halloween. As another Adam Sandler movie, will it be good? Probably not. Will we love every minute of it? Absolutely. Also Enola Holmes comes out this week to give a new take on a classic story. But like for teens. I guess. Danny is actually editing the show while watching this to see if its actually any good. 

Then we turn our attention to attention. As we gear up for a contentious election season, everyone seems to be sharing news article, fact checking them, and debating their interpretation. Attention has become the new currency for people and as Christians, we must always be aware who has our attention and allegiance the most. God is truth and anything not in Him is not truth. 

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you DO know him and have seen him.” (‭‭John‬ ‭14:1-7,‬ ‭ESV)

The Christian is called to a life of community with other Christians. This community provides many benefits to spiritual growth and well being. Caleb recounts what God has been teaching him these past couple of weeks with getting to be a part of community and how to engage with others in the faith. 

‘Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:23-25)

Many things happened within the world of DC Comics as they unleashed a barrage of trailers for video games, shows, and movies this past week. With everything coming out, between Batman, Black Adam, Gotham Knights, and Suicide Squad, we look at the growing trend of the anti-hero and doing good things with a bad heart. Then we talk about the growing issue of vengeance and taking the role of seeking our own form of justice rather than submitting to God’s justice. 

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:18-21, ESV)

Children’s toys of Trolls and LOL dolls, along with the Netflix Movie Cuties, have made the new recently for either flaws in their design or their blatant sexualization of children. For the Christian, while we should be outraged, we should protect our children and train them up in the Gospel while still proclaiming the Gospel to the world. 

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”‭(‭John‬ ‭15:18-19‬ ‭ESV)‬‬

John MacArthur recently penned an open letter to the State of California regarding their recent statement that churches cannot sing and cannot meet in person. After prayer from the church pastors and elders, Grace Community Church decided this was an act too far to ban the church from worshipping God. 

Christians over the past few years have found various reasons to claim persecution. Now, we find ourselves facing actual persecution, at least in the case of California, and must decide how we should continue to worship our God and be faithful to Him. To that, we turn to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.“ (‭Daniel‬ ‭3:16-18‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Caleb and Danny tested positive for COVID and Danny probably gave it to Caleb, unless any kind of liability is involve, then he definitely didn’t. Our tests may have been different but the experience was the same. Weird. We talk about how it affected us and how much sleep we needed. 

Then we talk about getting healthy and what both of us are doing in order to continue. Everyone has issues but the two things we should avoid are embracing the “love me just as I am” body positivity and “fat shaming” others. We should treat over eating as we would sin, by encouraging one another to grow closer to God in the process. 

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:19-20‬ ‭ESV)

“What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?” (‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:1-2‬ ‭ESV)‬

John Crist is out of rehab after not posting anything for 8 months. Now, he posts his first content and takes responsibility for his actions before. There was not justification of what he did but taking full responsibility while leaning on the grace of God. Th en we talk about Bethel and their reenactment of a scene from Lord of the Rings to end racism and whether that makes any sense at all. 2020 still coming up crazy.

Parents have truly stepped up and learned how to balance work and school simultaneously. Now, with school slowly looming in front of us, we may face the issue of needing to shelter again. Enjoy the time with your children and love them as you won’t always have that time together. Be like Dr. Claire Wenham who understands that, hey, life happens.

Then we talk about the most recent Prophetic dream that went viral from Pastor Dana Coverstone. Normally, he would not have recorded this type of thing but feels he has a message for what comes ahead. We look at the idea of being a prophet, spiritual dreams, and whether we should even take them seriously.

The recent events of America politics have gotten everyone thinking about issues of race and protesting racism. All this mixed in with cancel culture and a society that refuses to think critically about issues creates real problems. On this episode Caleb and Danny talk about the relevant issues and how we can come together as the body of Christ in unity. 

“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:31-32‬ ‭ESV) 

We could each side do with some grace filled critical thinking, where we encourage one another to stand on the foundation of truth. Our actions should guide our feelings which fuel our actions.

There is an ongoing debate as to whether or not we should abolish the police. While we do believe there are cases of police brutality that need to be addressed, abolishing the police does not seem like a good idea. It removes the accountability for actions while putting people at risk. This simply cannot be the solution. In every case positive case, we have seen the police force joining the community in a form of incarnational ministry. 

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”‭‭ (John‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭ESV)

Forgiveness for our enemies and for our friends should be hallmark traits for the Christian. It expresses the grace of God to those around us just as Jesus did to us.

Have you been watching Netflix? Then you have certainly been up to date on the most popular shows. Or you have been watching Fuller House like Danny has. Either way, you have probably seen recommendations for The Outer Banks. This show takes viewers through the story of John B and his friends who go looking for treasure, sunken ships, and ultimately, John B’s father. But along the way they need to unite as friends and find forgiveness among themselves. 

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Caleb and Danny have an honest conversation about the recent current events involving George Floyd, the peaceful protests, as well as the looting. Are the issues being too conflated with one another? And how should the Christian represent the faith during this current civil crisis? We know this topic might be controversial, but it is precisely these moments that we must wade into the culture with grace, love, and kindness for those around us. 

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. The issue of justice should be approached by Christians with the understanding that we are called to seek out justice, to care for the voiceless, and value human life. Also, though, we are to treat even our enemies with the grace that Jesus Christ treated us. Join Caleb and Danny as we talk about justice and how we can be the light of God in difficult situations.

Anxiety and identity are two things everyone wrestles with at some point. Especially now with quarantines in effect and ending, people seem to be struggling with some kind of anxious feelings about tomorrow and what tomorrow brings. But, when we trust in an infinite God, we can rest in the mercies of God which are new every morning.

Every American Christian is now considering the issue of stewardship. For some people, the question will come in needing to pay bills and pay down debts. Others will need to struggle with whether or not they should buy some excessive purchases. The issue of stewardship runs deep within the Bible. From finances to relationship, to talents, treasures, and time, we call can be good stewards of the things we have been given.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew‬ ‭6:19-21‬ ‭ESV

Then we discuss the coming need for generosity. The world will be changing and this is a profound opportunity to be the church to people in need. For those who are able, we can represent the love of Christ to the poor, the broken, and the sick.

Danny and Caleb experience the pandemic sensation that is corona virus panic. Neither of us are medical professionals but we are Christians and know that the church has always had a role to play in showing being the light in the midst of the darkness. We look at how the church should respond to this crisis and what we can do to be Christ-like to our neighbors during this time. 

“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Danny and Caleb start the journey of talking through their faith. The highs, the lows, and the ups and downs. Caleb shares his story and how he became a Christian and what difficulties he faced as he sought to make the faith his. Even being from a good home, there were many challenges and difficulties along the way and finding the balance between heart and mind became the task that Caleb would wrestle with even now.

The movie angle starring Ricky Garcia and Erwin McManus came out in late 2019. It tells the story of a Latino homeless kid who battles his demons while trying to save his community. Overall, we felt the movie was a fantastic depiction but we disagree on some of the necessary and cinematic aspects. 

Then, we tell the story of Ricky Garcia and the allegations of sexual abuse by his manager from the ages of 12 to 17. The role of the Christian is to protect the innocent and stand up for those whose voice is being taken from them. We wanted to share that story for that reason.

“Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭31:8-9‬ ‭ESV‬)

On this week’s episode, Danny invites Andrew Steier to come talk about the various goings on of the world. First we talk about how NHL mascot Gritty is in hot legal trouble for punching a child in the back. Then we talk about how beloved Mr. Peanut has died in a very macabre car crash. More updates are coming but we suspect Gritty was involved. 

Then we talk about the process of discipleship and evangelism and how both are needed for a healthy spiritual life to bloom. The metrics for children and youth ministry may be off, but the urgency to activate students for their faith is now as we seek to teach, train, and disciple people to reach the people in their context. 

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

This Advent season people see the nativity at almost every church you face. What you don't expect, though, is for these scenes to be politicized. But a church in California chooses to defy the expectations and use the nativity for their personal political qualms. We look into the idea of whether Jesus was a refugee or whether this even occurs within the Nativity story. Also, we look at the issues of the immigration conversation and how we should respond as Christians. Ultimately, we agree that we should be willing to listen more to one another and increase the dialogue as we discuss complex topics.

Caleb and back and Danny has one question on his mind; What is happening in the world of DC Movies. Birds of Prey is coming out and looks like a confusing mess, but one we will probably go and see. Not to be outdone, the Joker movie out now presents a story of an regular man pushed too far to become the Joker. We look at how we as Christians can love one another rather than continually beat them down.

In other news, the sentencing of Amber Guygur, a former police officer who shot and killed Botham Jean in a case of mistaking which apartment she had entered, resulted in 10 years in prison. Botham Jean's brother extended grace to Amber forgiving her and asking that she give her life to Jesus Christ. Some have viewed this as a prime example of grace, other as a lack of justice being served. Jesus Christ bore the punishment of our sin as the only person uniquely qualified to serve both justice and grace simultaneously. What do you think?

Justin Bieber recently published a lengthy statement on his growing up and stepping in to manhood. He sees God as instrumental and his stepping in to manhood. Now looking back at his life, he starts to repent from his past mistakes as he looks to the future. We, as Christians, should be willing to extend the grace to people who are looking to make the right decisions towards an understanding with Jesus Christ. 

Then we look at a group who protests Christians who are looking to unite people under the banner of Jesus Christ. There is a proper time and place for this time of disagreement and they ain’t doin’ it right. There is no grace in their words and they are nothing more than a nosy gong. Who are they? With the recent shootings, we wanted to take time to talk about racism, bigotry, and how inconsistent those ideologies are with Christianity. At the heart of Christianity, we are all created in the image of God to reflect the glory of God. If we ever do not come out as strong as people would like against white supremacism, its because we truly do not even deem those groups worthy of our attention and words. But nonetheless, white supremacy, bigotry, racism, and any form of prejudice against a person does not reflect the nature of God.

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1:2-8‬ ‭ESV

Then we talk about the recent events with Joshua Harris and deconstructing his faith. While we will not get into speculations about what happened in Joshua Harris' life, because we just don't know and that is between him and God. However, as he comes out saying he is no longer a Christian, we look at what it means to consider our faith and how we can endure the testing of our faith.

Caleb’s parents moved off to Texas for their job and various other things going on. Now, Caleb is on his own in his new apartment and new job, and Danny is insanely jealous of their potential to meet Matt Chandler and JT English. Speaking of Danny, as this airs, he will be starting his new job as a Children’s Ministry Director at Switzerland Community Church. While everything going on is good, for both of us we need to trust God and lean on His understanding. 

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord , and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8, ESV

Trusting God is difficult because it means we have to give up all control in the process. Yet, for the Christian, we will all find ourselves needing to trust in what God is looking to do and for strength. It is only through God are we able to accomplish the tasks that He has called us to.

Caleb and Danny look at the joke that snowballed into a place where people may be actually going to at least the area. So much so that the Air Force tweeted a response and the hotels are booked leaving a little town questioning whether they can handle the influx of people. The person who started the joke learned a great lesson about the power of words. 

From the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Proverbs 18:20-21, ESV

Trump is known for being a provocateur who says radical things. Now, with telling four American congresswomen to go back where they came from, Trump most likely crossed the line… again. The usual suspects of Republicans are quickly moving to the defense of President Trump saying “Well, what we ACKTUAHLY meant was…” and Democrats looked at their cards and decided to just whimsically play the “That’s racist!” card rather than making even a moderate attempt to understand what he said. Honestly, this is “Bad Trump”

Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. (1 Peter 3:9, ESV)

Then we look at the ice cream challenge that is sending everyone to JAIL! Plan A… don’t do a crime. Plan B…. don’t record it and post it on social media… With the ice cream challenge we look at sin and the great potential for good and evil inside of us and look at what it means to die to the flesh and express the fruit of the Spirit. 

And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. (Galatians 5:22-26, ESV)

We want to be clear that we are against all forms of inequality. All persons are created in the image of God and have value and worth. Yet, we are not all called to express ourselves in the same manner. Megan Rapinoe claims she deserves her awards. Her athleticism would tend to agree but the arrogance and pride that comes will only lead to an inevitable fall.

"One’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor." Proverbs 29:23, ESV 

Caleb and Danny look at how we handle pride and comparison and what it means to understand our position in the Kingdom of God. For the Christian, comparison and pride will ultimately lead to our own destruction as it takes our eyes off of the Lord and finds our self-worth in something other than God. Furthermore, we have all been created for something specific and wealth is not the indicator of who we are.

Steven Crowder is known for being a comedic provocateur. As a libertarian leaning political commentator who claims he is a Christian, he frequently seems to come up to the line of offensive while defending truth. Carlos Maza, on the other hand, feeling offended and looking for a reason to deplatform Steven Crowder has a history of being a part of organization seeking to silence opposing viewpoints. Now, with certain slurs, even if done in comedic fashion, Maza has enough to attempt to silence Crowder.

For all his good points and ideas, they are overshadowed by the offensive nature. Caleb and Danny discuss the nature of the Gospel as being offensive to the flesh. Caleb and Danny have both had conversations on tithing on whether or not tithing is a biblical concept. Yes. Yes it is. But the deeper question is whether or not it is a New Covenant concept for New Testament Christians. Giving is important for Christians not because we need to tip God or pay for services, but because it aligns our hearts. 

Also, giving goes beyond just. We can give with our time, talent, and treasure. Everyone has an ability to give to the Lord and it blesses us to do so. Giving goes beyond money and giving is an act of worship where we offer ourselves up to God.

Sure, some of this might be deep seeded personality problem, but overall, it does point to a larger question. Should Christians have fun? Overall, there is an issue of balance in the church where everything is either about the experience or that Christians should be sullen all the time. Most likely, there is a balance that should be struck in the middle.

Speaking of politics, Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un met this past week in an historic event towards peace. Naturally, everyone is upset by this. Makes sense right? We look at right, wrong, and objectivity while encouraging people to maintain their faith. 

Finally, we look at the ludicrous statements made by Jesse Duplantis regarding buying a jet, that Jesus wouldn't ride a donkey but ride in the lap of luxury, and that commercial airlines are filled with demons. Every bit of what he said to justify the $54 million dollar jet is just... wrong. The true Gospel rests in Jesus lowering Himself, becoming one of us, living with us, and dying for our sins. Not in having the most stuff. Also, Jesse Duplantis is apparently a huge Star Trek fan.

Stan Lee, beloved creator of Marvel Comics, has been in the new recently as many people complete for his inheritance as one of the most convoluted stories unfolds. We look at people's heart for money and power as a means of self validation and why tithing is so important. Even more, we look at the recent story that Christians do not know what The Great Commission is. Making disciples, much like raising children, is a generational task of not only getting a person to a point but also getting them to thrive and produce others. Disciples make disciples who make disciples.

Next we look at the events in the world today and the recent shooting that occurred at Youtube. Exploring the motives of the person, we look at human nature and the superiority complex and the victimhood complex. Neither of these are particularly helpful for humanity.

With Easter, Christ has reigned victorious over all creation and we are forever indebted to Him. We can value humanity as made in the image of God and know that everyone has value in the eyes of God.

Also, we look at our lifestyle to see where we are or are not representing Christ, specifically in our media. We take an in-depth look at how we live our lives and how we promote our creativity in our lives. There is grace for people but there is life that comes from living fully for Christ. Faith goes beyond our feelings and takes root deep inside of us. Don't fear studying and exploring God.

All in all, God gives us and we in turn can give grace to one another. We all struggle with some kind of sin and wrestle with the topic of our speech. So be gentle to yourself and to others.

Also, we look at the statements from Jen Hatmaker regarding votes and thoughts and prayers. As Christians, we are absolutely appalled by statements that "heart issue" people cannot be reached but know that our God still reaches hearts. We are all made in the image of God and none of us are beyond His reach. At one point, our hearts were all against Him but by His power and grace, we are healed and renew.

Pray with one another. Pray for one another. Pray for Parkland.
