On today’s show I’m thrilled to talk to author Steve Bell who has written the excellent biography 'Dynamite and Davey - The Explosive Lives of the British Bulldogs', a fascinating story of two men who both individually, and as a tag team, put their distinctly British mark on the wrestling world as key figures of the Golden Age of WWF wrestling.

It’s a thrilling and equally tragic tale of the Dynamite Kid Tommy Billington and Future Intercontinental Champion Davey Boy Smith, two cousins from the wrestling mecca of Wigan who rose to superstardom both individually and, as many rightly cite, one of the greatest tag teams in wrestling history.

We also talk about the process of writing and Steve's personal journey to becoming a successful author.

OMEN TO THAT returns for a second series, after a longer than anticipated hiatus, and our first show is a cracker!

I'm joined by two fantastic guests who talk about their experience of collaborating together on the short story 'The Grey Man' that appeared in the award winning 'Drawn Under the Influence' comics anthology.

Writer - Alan Henderson, best known for his magnum opus The Penned Guin, discusses his inspiration for the story and his experience of collaborating with an artist for the first time.

Artist - Helena Edwardson, comic artist and illustrator tells us how working with Alan gave her back her 'art mojo' and helped her define a style that she is now employing on several other projects.

In addition, both give advice on collaborating with someone new and how to make it work.

Since 2013 his web comic The Penned Guin has delighted readers with a range of laugh out loud strips that have covered many topics from the absurd to the Scottish referendum as told through a tug-of-war. With a highly successful line of books and Kickstarter campaigns it’s a true success story for independent comics.

In addition Alan is a writer and artist of non-penguin subject matter and a regular contributor to the excellent Never Iron Anything Podcast where he can be found sharing his fascinating insights into some of the classic comics of yesteryear.

Not only is she the Editor-In-Chief at Fandemonium Network, Professional Reviewer, Owner of 100 Pennies Photo but also the brains behind ComicScout offering a proofreading/editing services to small press comic book creators.

Clare takes us through the fascinating process of proofreading and copy-editing and why both are crucial in the creative process, especially for small press creators. We also chat about some of her comics history and I explain why Thundercats always reminds me of 'Vic the Vandal' who was a barber from my childhood.

As long as there have been fans, there have been fanzines! The roots of the modern zines can be traced back to the 1930’s Science Correspondence Club in Chicago and their publication The COMET. In 1967 what is cited as the first true fanzine appeared – Spockanalia based on the popular sci-fi tv show Star Trek. Since then almost every genre has spawned its own brand of fanzines, from music, sports, tv shows and individuals.

On today's show I’m pleased to be joined by a Raechel Leigh Carter who is not only the co-founder of the BAM Comic Art and Zine Fair, but a prolific zine creator who has produced works on Nicholas Cage, Neil Breen, Jane Birkin and Morrissey. She is also the creator of the fantastic Merde in France, which teaches you French phrases using pop culture icons.

Graham Humphreys is an artist who for 4 decades has produced some of the most memorable images in the Horror Genre. Ask any horror fan to name a classic horror poster or video cover and they will undoubtedly mention, The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead 2 and A Nightmare on Elm St. Each of them rightly share a place in the history of classic horror films but they also share something else, the iconic artwork was created by the same brilliant artist and I’m honoured to be joined by him for this special look at his 40 year career.

In this special episode we talk about his love of graveyards and possible alternative careers as an undertaker or graphic designer, if that wasn't enough we also talk art and take a deep dive into the artistic process and decision making behind some of his recent work.

In the world of horror sub-genres that includes everything from serial killer slashers and body horror to the paranormal, there has always been a special place for those movies, books and comics that pushed the boundaries a little bit further. From the first time Herschell Gordon Lewis shocked audiences in 1963 with the blood drenched classic Blood Feast, there has been a fascination for splatter horror, where the schlockier the action the better. Throughout the years many creators have continued this tradition including Ruggero Deodato, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci and Sam Raimi, today we have Eli Roth and Rob Zombie carrying the blood soaked torch of all things gore.

And my guest on this episode is the comics equivalent of a schlockmeister, his work captures the look and feel the genre that liberally mixes sex and gore with a healthy splat of comedy.

I sit down with Paul PJ Johnson and we discuss a range of topics from the importance of Batman in 1989 to difficulties of balancing life and comics creation. Oh and there is a healthy dose of gore too!

The comics world has a rich history of creative collaborations, with writers and artists joining forces to produce something that is often greater than the sum of its parts. From Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra and on today's show I talk to a pair of independent creators who have worked together on several titles to date, and was you’ll hear have plenty more lined up for the future.

They will talk about how they met and what it takes to make a collaboration work, oh and Gronks, there is a lot of Gronks.

I also learn that TWOTH is pronounced TWO-TH! :)

On todays episode I am lucky enough to be joined by a couple of guests with vast experience of writing not only comics but novels too.

We discuss the process of creating a comic from page to panel, writing influences as well as common errors that are often made by aspiring writers.

As usual we go off on a tangent and end up chatting about a range of subjects such as the dangers of social media to Guy Gardener’s bowl haircut!

It was great fun to record with two very knowledgeable and funny guests, but beware it contains some adult language.

OMEN TO THAT - The Art of John McCrea

In another creator spotlight episode I am thrilled to chat to one of my personal comic heroes and a true comic book legend - John McCrea

An Eisner award winner who for over 30 years John has been producing work for the likes of Marvel, DC, Rebellion, and Image. Drawing characters from my personal favourite, Hitman (Tommy Monaghan) to the recent Dead Eyes, he’s collaborated with writing legends such as Alan Grant, Gerry Duggan, and most famously Garth Ennis who he won the aforementioned Eisner with Hitman #34 - Of Thee I Sing.

We discuss his career in comics, the art of commissions and teaching. In addition we learn about his Kickstarter campaign for 'The Mighty World of McCrea' which is shaping up to be an absolute blast!

I had a great time chatting with John and I'm sure (like me) you'll really enjoy this episode especially hearing about the strangest commission he ever did!

On this episode I am thrilled to be joined by one of the modern masters of comic book covers - Ryan Brown.

A master of painting in both digital and acrylic media, he’s produced covers, games, albums and Concept Art.

He has worked for among others Vertigo, IDW, Image, Heavy Metal, 2000ad and most recently Marvel. Painting a diverse range of titles from V-Wars to Ninja Turtles, and of course his legendary take on Judge Dredd.

Ryan kindly took some time out of his busy schedule to talk comics, art and the process of making a great comic cover.
