Friends! It's been a week! I'm fresh off my very first TEDx Talk!

Last Saturday, I went to Pocatello, Idaho to deliver a talk called The Power of Self-Permission. It went GREAT... except for the part where I completely went blank on stage and had no idea what to say or do next. Luckily, like most moments of COMPLETE TERROR, it only lasted a few seconds and I was off and running again.

The good news is that those moments when we lose it, when we completely forget our way, panic, falter, fall down, become EXPOSED, we remember our own humanity, and instantly we step into our full-blown POWER. In the moments when we lose control, we gain faith in ourselves and in our ability to find our way through. And we always, in these moments, if we dare to stick them out, find our way forward.

It's through the struggle and the triumph that we become MORE of who we are. We discover ourselves when our planning and masking and facades and expectations fail us. We discover ourselves when we overcome. Be willing to stay in the moment.

The election also just happened and it's time to take care of ourselves and one another. Feel your feelings, make room for the emotions that are roiling through you, good or bad, and remember that you are the container for all of your thought and all of your feelings. You don't have to let any single one of them take over. Be mindful of our very human tendencies to draw stark and dead-end conclusions in heightened times. You are big enough to weather any storm, sweetheart.

There will be a way through that didn't exist for you on election Tuesday, but by staying present to what IS, not what you fear, but what really IS, the creative solutions to move forward will appear. Trust in the peace and power inside you and surrender to your purpose, and let that be your guide. You got this.

Hosted on Acast. I am not a medical care provider and nothing in this episode is intended to be medical advice. Please speak to your own health care provider with any questions or concerns you have about your health and well-being and your healthcare choices.

Hosted on Acast. It's no wonder that when we start adulting, we are so often mired in a disconnect from what we secretly desire but don't allow ourselves to go after or call in. It is rarely if ever just a given for most of us, but rather is built day by day, action by action, new empowering belief by new empowering belief.

Want to learn how to get out of your own way and make room for more joy, confidence, freedom, purpose and impact?

Host Hollis welcomes special guest Diane Altomare to the Open That Door podcast this week to help guide us through the exact process for opening the door to our greater selves, our greater capacity, and our greatest fulfillment.

Diane is a Master Certified Integrative Life Coach, regular featured expert on NBC and ABC, motivational speaker, a mother, wife, and best-selling and award-winning author of the book Clarity.

Her latest book is called More Than Enough, and inside the pages Diane pours all her wisdom she's gleaned over her nearly 25-year coaching career, working with everyone from celebrities and the uber-rich, to CEOs and managers, to stay-at-home parents and students, into uncovering the one common characteristic ALL of us struggle with—and that is the belief that we are simply not enough.

In More Than Enough and in this totally uplifting and hope-filled conversation, Diane shares her journey in learning how to heal her not-good-enough self and reconnecting with that part of herself—and the part we all have access to—that knows that we are More Than Enough.

The first step in any healing and empowered journey is gaining awareness, and Diane helps us make the distinction that just because I feel less than enough and can find plenty of proof to back up that belief, doesn't mean that that is who I am. When we see that we are run by beliefs of insecurity, self-doubt, fear, and anxiety based on the messaging we received growing up, and realize that this way of coping is not our fault, we begin to start reconnecting with our deeper self which is always unscathed, always whole, and always More Than Enough.

I had so much fun in this conversation with Diane, and I know the gems you will glean from this 50-minute exploration can be the catalyst for you to truly begin to change your life.

On the Open That Door podcast this week, host Hollis talks about a missing step in achieving real and lasting change. When we decide we really do want to transform an area of our lives or tackle a previously out-of-reach goal, what is required of us is to become anew. It's in this process of having to release an old way of being or our grasp on old beliefs that we might experience a sense of self-betrayal (or familial betrayal) — to the person you have had to be to maintain the status quo in your life.

And sometimes that sense of betrayal comes with a feeling of loss and grief. Or anger, or sadness, or fear (which could just be excitement without breath behind it). These are real feelings that deserve space to be felt and acknowledged on the way to lasting change.

Any time we step up to a new challenge, we first have to let go of our current standing... literally and figuratively. Putting change into motion always requires that we take a step forward in a new direction, and continue that momentum. This act of change can disrupt old agreements we have inside of us, often unspoken and unacknowledged, about how life is "supposed to be" — even when our old ways are preventing us from living fully into our power and joy.

And yet, through the grief, the loss of what was, of that part of you that you identified with that no longer fits, is the pathway and the doorway through which a life of meaning and substance and fulfillment awaits you.

Open that door to a life and livelihood you love, my friend.

Host Hollis warmly welcomes filmmaker/storyteller/social worker and amazing human Malik Isasis to the Open That Door podcast!

Hollis and Malik met three decades ago as college students when they made a film together—Malik's first feature. Malik has gone on to make many award-winning films (his latest Öte is currently streaming throughout Europe) all while working as a social worker in the NYC school system.

Malik grew up in the south and experienced poverty, racism, and the loss of his mother who was killed by police officers. He met his father just three times growing up, and learned to steel up and withhold his emotions, anger especially, as a form of weaponization against others. It was only after Malik met a social worker in his late teens that he learned how to share his emotions and be vulnerable in order to gain a deeper connection with himself and those he cares about—a tough order for boys-to-men influenced by patriarchal role-modeling.

Listen in as Malik so expertly shares why change can be so hard when we are, by nature, always trying to return to our equilibrium, our normal, even when that baseline no longer works for us. It's through the awareness that we have a choice, our vigilance, and repeated practice that new beliefs and habits become our new lifestyle.

Malik is one of those beautiful humans who tells his friends he loves them, and looks people in the eye to let them know he sees them whether they are advantaged or disadvantaged. Coming out the other side of foot-stopping fear takes focus, attention, lots of breath, and a willingness to dig deep to find what false narratives have taken root in us. But when you are willing to do the work, the outcome is more freedom from fear, a better understanding of yourself, deeper compassion for the human mechanisms in you, and empowerment that comes from replacing a limiting belief with a more honest and truthful one.
Host Hollis shares how, on the same day she declared her commitment to receiving more support in her life, she got thrown off a horse. What do you do when support shows up as the cold, hard ground? You commit to mining the gold contained therein. When we trust the process of change, within us and all around us, apparent obstacles that might first show up are transformed into new doorways through which we find the exact and direct pathway to the manifestation of our hopes and dreams. Asking is different than committing to receive. Where in your life might you be asking but not yet open to receiving the blessings you desire? Listen in and see where you can transform your own stopping points into breakthroughs to immediate and lasting transformation.

Hosted on Acast.
