We talk about Apartheid, and race relations, and humanity, and try to make sense of it all. It was a conversation that I've wanted to have for a long time, but even more than that, it helped me shift my perspective. In a time when the world seems so full of hate, know that it's not, and if we expect to move on to the next era of human history, we must forgive our pasts and come together. Life wasn't easy, but Ranjith Kaunamuni built himself a life. Ranjith finally settled into his Batik and woodcarving trade and worked in his small workshop/home on the beach. Life was starting to pick up since his art was becoming more popular. Everything changed on December 26th, 2004. No one knew what a tsunami was, but unbeknownst to the little beach town one was on its way. Thankfully due to some quick thinking Ranjith was able to survive, but the life he had built was washed away. Even with all of that, the man sitting across from me was one of the happiest people I had ever met. How is that possible? With everything gone, he rebuilt his life around the the only thing that matters, his family, and treats everyday as a gift that might not come again tomorrow.

Ranjith finally settled into his Batik and woodcarving trade and worked in his small workshop/home on the beach. Life was starting to pick up since his art was becoming more popular. Everything changed on December 26th, 2004. No one knew what a tsunami was, but unbeknownst to the little beach town one was on its way. Thankfully due to some quick thinking Ranjith was able to survive, but the life he had built was washed away. Even with all of that, the man sitting across from me was one of the happiest people I had ever met. How is that possible? With everything gone, he rebuilt his life around the the only thing that matters, his family, and treats everyday as a gift that might not come again tomorrow.

Matěj Boháč has gone through many phases in his life. From the party filled band life playing Czech grunge, to adopting a religion, and working on a degree in Archaeology, Matěj was always finding and exploring new avenues in his life. This life of exploring and transitioning between phases of interest wasn't always easy. It can be draining to constantly change course without a final destination in mind. Rob Salkaed and Josh Reid work in the Thistle Stop Cafe off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. It's easy to focus on the haggis, castles, and scotch, but even those can't mask Scotland's dark past. A nice reminder of the sacrifices most of our past relatives made, and what America is all about.
