Dr. Jacinta Bryant is a Charleston native and veteran South Carolina educational leader who served as the founding director of Lowcountry Acceleration Academy in North Charleston, SC, and is now Regional Vice President of Acceleration Academies. She is overseeing the new Carolina Shores Acceleration Academy (CSAA), opening this fall in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Carolina Shores Acceleration Academy is a free public charter high school open to all South Carolina high school students up to age 21. CSAA is a place where students who haven’t found success in other settings can build self-esteem, work closely with educators to build on their strengths rather than dwelling on their weaknesses, and emerge not only with a high school diploma but also a clear sense of purpose. The mother of two, Dr. Bryant has earned numerous degrees, including a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. Her professional roles have included working as a school psychologist in the Charleston County School District, serving as the first African-American director of special education in Charleston County School District, and also overseeing special education programs in Colleton County School District. In her personal and professional life, Dr. Bryant has had deep experience with the toll that social and educational injustice can take on young people and their community. On today's show, Keven spoke with our Chief Communications Officer, Drew Johnson, and Tracie Sweet, Director of Federal Programs.Tracie Sweet is the Director of Federal Programs at the South Carolina Public Charter School District. She oversees federal programs such as Title I, Title II, Title IV, COVID Impact Relief Funds, foster care, and homeless. Before this position, Tracie was an education associate in the Office of Federal and State Accountability at the South Carolina Department of Education. In addition to providing Title, I technical assistance to districts throughout the state, Tracie served as the SCDE's point of contact for foster care, the facilitator for parent, family, and community engagement for Title I schools, and served as a member of the ESSA management team. Educational background includes teaching elementary school, being a program facilitator at the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA), being the principal at Temple Christian Academy in Anderson, SC, adjunct professor and student teacher supervisor at Anderson University, consultant for National Boards for Professional Teaching Standards, and parent facilitator/Title I coordinator at Williston School District 29. Tracie lives in Pendleton, SC, with her husband and two amazingly talented daughters.

Payne, and Lori Mastromonico, the principal at Tall Pines STEM Academy in Aiken, SC. She has been in education for over 20 years. She has been at Tall Pines since the school opened. Most recently, she served as the school’s Literacy Coach. Mrs. Mastromonico holds a Master of Education degree in Divergent Learning from Columbia College and a Master of Education degree in Teaching and Learning, focusing on Instructional Coaching from Clemson University. Mrs. Mastromonico and her husband, Jeff, have two boys: Jacob and Alex. Together, they serve in their church on Sunday mornings, leading a small adult group during the week. The family enjoys volunteering, performing on stage, and helping backstage at Aiken Community Theatre.

Ms. Goodson spent years as an elementary school teacher and Academic Dean before accepting her first principal position in the Meeting Street Network. Her educational philosophy is based on her uncompromising belief that all students deserve a quality education. Her passion is developing positive relationships with students and teachers, working with students as they grow, supporting teachers and staff so that they can reach their most significant potential, and fostering a positive school culture.

Bella Meisten is a Greenville Technical Charter High School senior who plans to major in International Relations. Bella is a passionate, driven student who will graduate top of her class with 58 college credits. She is heavily involved in both her school and community. Within her school, she is the President of her school's Beta Club, a captain of the Varsity soccer team, the Business Manager of Students in Action, an ambassador, and an actor in the theater department's most recent production, Our Town. Bella is committed to serving her local and school community. For her Senior Project, she is working to minimize the stigma surrounding mental health. She has created a Mental Health Awareness Week with guest speakers and other educational opportunities for students and parents. Bella is also a member of the Greenville Youth Council. Throughout high school, she has volunteered with Beck Academy's special education students, and recently, she organized a Bingo night for senior citizens. #KidsFirst #charterschool

For more than 20 years, Statler has worked to improve economic opportunities across the Lowcountry, including the past seven years as Regional Workforce Advisor for the S.C. Department of Commerce. She holds a master’s degree in health care administration from Des Moines University in Iowa and a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Southeast Missouri State University. She was part of the original planning committee that created Polaris Tech and has served on the Board of Directors from the start – but resigned from the board earlier this month. “I have been deeply involved in Polaris Tech for two years before we opened the school,” Statler said. “As one of the founders and then as a board member, I’ve been closely involved and informed about what has been working and where our challenges remain. I see my job as building on the successes of my predecessors.
