[LIVE] Four Years of Plumes

It's absolutely wild to me that I've been creating content for four years - and honestly, it's been a blast. There's so much that I've learned, from figuring out myself properly and all the experimenting that came with it, to eventually rebranding across different avenues to just be the best I could be. It's honestly something I look back at with a smile - there's so many times I could've just stopped along the way, and as I tell y'all, I'm incredibly glad to have kept on going. I have no way of knowing what this next year brings as far as content creation goes, but I assure you that I'm looking forward to it with the biggest smile I can, and it's entirely thanks to you. So thank you for allowing me to be me, and I hope I can keep seeing you in the stars for a long time to come.

An Ode to Fathers Everywhere

It'll soon be 8 years since the passing of my Dad, and that realization alone is crazy to consider, but I wanted to take an opportunity to talk with all the Dads out there to give thanks this Father's Day 2024. In today's episode, I recount a lot of the better stories of my Dad; how he helped shape me into the man that I am today, and how despite him being gone for as long as he has, I still find him influencing things within my daily life to this day. We'll further go on to talk about some of the life lessons, AKA Plumes of Wisdom from the Dad Man, he imparted on me, in hopes that you'll be able to recount some of your own.

How to Stop Doomscrolling and Start Living

Doomscrolling, and social media addiction as a whole, is a relatively new field of behavioral science that personally, still is lacking in appropriate studies. There's certainly a lot to be learned from the World Wide Web; I mean, you're most likely listening to this thanks to an Internet connection. Though, if you're finding this via a CD in the bargain bin of a Walmart - let me know because that's pretty cool. Shady podcast listening practices aside, today's podcast deals a lot with improper scrolling - how the attempt to find that one juicy bit of information and our willingness to put up with poor quality posts to find it may actually be attributing to our bad habits and what we can do to start changing that around.

We'll talk about taking note of how much time we spend on social media, then how to make an actionable goal to limit that time to something we can be more proud of. Then, we'll talk about how to curate your feed for the better, the importance of fact-checking before reposting, and the most important piece of all: how to take a proper break. We'll then circle around and talk about how to use that newly limited time to drive engagement and make your social media efforts more worth the limited time you provide them.

You lay down, close your eyes, and the next thing you know, it's already 4 in the morning and you've got work in two hours. That sound relatable? That's how my May went. Though, within that knockout, I'm proud to say that I've had my fair share of adventures too, adventures of which I'm super excited to share with y'all on oncoming episodes of PlumesCast. Truly, I didn't anticipate May playing out the way that it did, but I'm thankful for the rest, and more importantly, I'm ready to get back to y'all and have a great time doing it.

You Gotta Want It

We've talked a lot of about goal setting this year on PlumesCast, from setting reasonable resolutions to keeping yourself motivated through all the hard times - but in conversations I've had a over this past week, I realized that there was a letter missing from our SMART acronym - an S, for Selfish. Now, I'm not referring to selfishness in a terrible light; in fact, it's incredibly healthy to take time for oneself to improve and invest upon themselves to grow as a person. But instead, I want you to be more selfish in your goals; instead of saying, "I want to save money," say "I want to save money because I want a new SteamDeck!"

Today, I walk you through three examples of how to be more selfish in your goal setting, how it'll help you stick with your goals better, and most importantly, how starting seemingly selfish goals can help you towards achieving better ones.

Lessons Learned - A Month in Review

There's an old saying that comes to mind - "Do as I say, not as I do." While some people consider it one of the worst sayings, telling others to stop perpetuating bad habits while continuing on them yourself, I think it brings an amazing opener to honest reflection. It's less an avoidance of bad behavior, but more "I know I'm not doing the best right now, and I can certainly be doing better, but I hope this will help you avoid living the same way I have." As such, I hope you'll keep that saying in mind as I do my own deep dive into my past month being away from the wondrous world of Live Streaming. Where I've succeeded, where I've fallen, and more importantly, where I want to go from here - and I hope you'll be able to use my conversation with both myself and you to have a similar one with yourself. I'd love to hear how that journey of yours is going.

Stay Determined

It's easy to feel stuck in these busy days of 2024; people are working harder than ever, and yet, have much less to show for it. And I want to start by saying that your frustrations are valid! Think even the best of us get annoyed at how easy it is to watch everything come crumbling down because of one missed step. But that's why we're talking about it today. It started with COVID, where most of us who were used to having daily conversations at the office were now reduced to chatting over a few bubbles in the app of the day, and now, we're seeing the results - despite having the ability to talk to anyone anywhere around the world in a moment's notice, we're now having less conversations and feeling lonelier than ever. And that's what we're hoping to address today - in how finding a new bestie starts with finding the friend within yourself, how to positively erase years of negative self talk to build you into the best friend someone else needs, and more importantly, how to lower your walls just enough to find that sometimes the best friends we really needed were just a few steps away.
