In case you didn't hear, John MacArthur and the pastors of Grace Community church issued a public statement where they defended their reason for opening up indoor church services against the governor's orders. There's actually a lot things in this statement that I agree with, but for this podcast, I focus on some things I'm critical of.

My Raw Thoughts on Robin Diangelo's "White Fragility"

Okay friends, I hesitated even recording this episode (I explain why in the intro), and even after I finished it, I didn't feel great about it. The best way to describe this podcast is that it's very "rough drafty," as I say in the episode.

When I write a rough draft of any blog or book, it usually comes off much more confident, emotional, and, at times, frustrated, since it's the first time I'm airing my thoughts. Then, upon further reflection, editing, critique from others, and much more rewriting and rewriting, I tone it down quite a bit and a more polished version usually emerges.

This podcast is very "rough drafty." I'm going to follow up with a blog with some additional thoughts on systemic racism and individual responsibility.

Two, I wanted to raise a different question--unrelated to the polyamory controversy--namely; how do we determine what's a "gospel issue?" And can something be essential to the Christian faith and yet not absolutely necessary for every individual Christian to believe in order to be saved.

Okay, finally, here's the May edition of the Bronze-level Patreon only podcast.

Before you listen, here are a couple qualifiers. First, this podcast was recorded and produced by my friends over at the Catacomb podcast. It'll air later this month through their channel, I believe.

Second, we recorded this episode at a cigar shop after midnight in East Nashville. Anyway, let's just say: our filters weren't working very well, if you know what I mean. In fact, this podcast my need some trigger warnings, especially for the last few minutes where we talk about a friend of a friend who engaged in bestiality, and I just want to apologize for laughing so hard at the end. It was late. The story is...funny. But it's somebody else's real story and a real struggle, apparently, and I don't want to minimize that. I almost decided not to post this episode, but it's kind of the definition of "raw" so I think it fits the vibe of my podcast. And, I thought that there was so much important stuff that we discussed in the first hour or so, so I wanted you to at least listen to that part, even if you stop listening 10 min before it ends.

While most "book reviews" are written, I kind of like to hear the reviewer talk through each book. So that's what I did in this episode.
