Marko is one of the most prolific cover artists Marvel has ever had. He produced 82 covers in his first year, was deliberately placed on titles close to cancellation because his art spiked sales, and ran 23 consecutive issues on Daredevil. His concept art fed the early MCU, and his studio held a seven-year exclusive partnership with Riot Games on League of Legends.

In 16 months he's produced 1,400 edited pages, over 350 original illustrations, and six books for print. He survived two heart surgeries during production. His wife thinks he's lost his mind. His son read the first novel and pitched it back as a 10-episode animated series.

Russell also shares candid stories about working with industry legends: "If you ask me what I love about my job, as much as I love movies, as much as I love video games, the people I've had the pleasure to work with, Steven Spielberg, Sean Levy, Guillermo del Toro, like some of the coolest storytellers and filmmakers..." Sean, originally from a small town in Wales and with roots in Zimbabwe, is not your average athlete. He is the living embodiment of relentless determination, fearlessness, and an indomitable spirit. An internationally acclaimed ultra-endurance athlete, author, and a renowned motivational speaker, Sean famously broke the world record by completing 105 Ironman Triathlons in 105 days, shattering perceptions and previous records alike.

Remarkably, he believes he could have extended this extraordinary feat of human endurance "indefinitely."

Yet, looking back, things could have played out very differently.

In the early 2000s, Sean was an unhappy school portrait photographer. He hated his job, and as is often the case, comfort was killing his ambition, so Sean promptly quit.

He sold his business for a pound, and at 30 years old, with no money, no spark, and no plan B, Sean embarked on a new life of adventure in its purest form.

* In 2010, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in a penguin suit.

* In 2012, he cycled 750 miles from London to the Alps.

* He swam the length of Great Britain in 135 days—the fun part being, before that, the furthest he had swum was three miles in a pool.

* He set the world record for cycling unsupported across Europe, completing the 4,000-mile route in 24 days.

* He also completed the Ultimate British Triathlon, running from John O'Groats to Land's End without any prior training.

With a PhD from Stanford University and over 300 awarded patents for VR, AR, and AI technologies, Rosenberg has made significant contributions to the industry. He has also founded successful companies such as Unanimous AI, Immersion Corporation, Microscribe, and Outland Research.

Rosenberg's journey began at NASA's Air Force Research Laboratory in the 1990s, where he created the groundbreaking Virtual Fixtures platform. This platform marked the first interactive augmented reality system, allowing users to experience a blend of real and virtual objects.

He later founded Immersion Corp, a VR company that pioneered various technologies, including VR simulators for medical schools and haptic devices for consumer markets. Further showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit, Rosenberg also founded Microscribe, a company renowned for its early 3D digitisers used in video games, virtual worlds, and feature films. The Microscribe digitizer played a crucial role in major films like Shrek, Ice Age, Starship Troopers, and Bugs Life.

Additionally, he founded Outland Research, focusing on augmented reality and mobile media technologies. Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavours, Rosenberg served as a professor at California State University (Cal Poly), teaching engineering, design, ed-tech, and entrepreneurship. Continuing his pursuit of advancing AI technologies, he founded Unanimous AI in 2014, harnessing the power of Swarm Intelligence to amplify the intelligence of networked human groups. This led to the development of Swarm AI, an award-winning technology used by organisations ranging from Fortune 500 corporations to the United Nations.

Rosenberg's expertise extends beyond just technology. Jill is one of the most accomplished underwater explorers on the planet who has accomplished feats that only a handful of people in history have ever achieved.

She famously captained an expedition in 2001 to become the first-ever to cave dive inside an iceberg, notably the B-15 iceberg in Antarctica, the largest recorded iceberg roughly the size of the island of Jamaica and was the leader of a team that discovered the ancient watery remains of Mayan civilisations.

And so, surely it is our responsibility to do everything within our power to create, nurture and maintain a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth?

So why, here in the UK, is a deluge of untreated sewage being dumped by water companies into our rivers and along our coastlines?

Last year alone, there were a whopping 372,533 sewage spills, over a period of 2.7 million hours.

This is one of the BIGGEST environmental scandals of our time. Yet, as is always the case, it doesn't have to be this way.

This is why today we are joining forces with Hugo Tagholm to bring to you a deep dive into the world of marine conservation and critique the scandals we're witnessing on our shorelines.

Hugo served as Chief Exec of Surfers Against Sewage, one of the UK’s leading marine conservation and campaigning charities that have been instrumental in campaigning for the introduction and enforcement of legislation that protects our seas from pollution.

He also led partnerships at The Climate Coalition, and joined forces with Richard Haward’s Oysters and the Good Law Project, with the aim of compelling the Government to rewrite its Storm Overflows Discharge Reduction Plan to impose much tighter deadlines on water companies to clean up their act.

Tagholm has also served as Programme Director at Theirworld and is an esteemed TEDx speaker, columnist for Oceanographic Magazine, and avid surfer.

Earlier this year, he was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science for his services to marine conservation by the University of Exeter and has recently become the Exec Director and Vice President at Oceana, the largest international advocacy organisation dedicated solely to ocean conservation.

The crux of this wonderful conversation focuses on the majesty of our oceans, the tragedy of their decline and the urgency of change.

Tony's Chocolonely dates back to 2003 when Dutch journalist Teun van de Keuken learned of widespread modern slavery and illegal child labour across cocoa farms in West Africa. What makes Van de Keuken's findings even more remarkable was that some of the world's leading chocolate manufacturers had signed the Harkin-Engel Protocol agreeing to the eradication of slavery and child labour from their supply chains just two years prior.

Where the voluntary protocol failed, Tony decided to do something about it. Demanding that a local judge convict him of supporting child slavery because, by paying for chocolate, he was supporting the exploitation of minors. When the case was dismissed, he tried to change the industry from within to show there's a way to be a successful chocolate manufacturer that doesn't involve the exploitation of West African communities and that's exactly what they’ve been doing ever since. 

From Tony's humble ‘lonely’ beginnings, Tony's Chocolonely has grown into a global brand, available in all 50 states of the US, the UK, and across Europe, as well as becoming the largest chocolate manufacturer in the Netherlands. With revenue in excess of €100 million, Tony’s shows no signs of slowing up, with the recent acquisition of Belgium chocolate manufacturer Althaea-De Laet international to the construction of a new factory and visitors centre north of Amsterdam. All indicate a period of exciting growth to come for a firm crazy about chocolate and serious about people.

On November 1st 2021, Kathryn wrote an article entitled, the ‘Great Resignation’ Misses the Point, as around the world, people are quitting their jobs in record numbers and bosses are scrambling to figure out why. The phrase itself, originated in early May, at a time in which Professor Anthony Klotz, warned that “The Great Resignation is coming” as part of an interview held with Bloomberg.

A few weeks later, the Bureau for Labour Statistics confirmed, a record 4 million Americans had left their jobs in April. The trend proved to be a global one, as within the UK, job vacancies grew to an all-time high in July and September, with available posts surpassing 1.1 million. Suddenly, people were reaching for ways to refer to this new phenomenon unfolding before them—to brand it and to make sense of it.

Within this episode, Kathryn and I discussed the origins of her article, and how it forms part of a much wider transformation taking place within the global society today. We also discuss, how by embracing an era of narrative, we can derive more meaning by focusing on the root causes rather than a simple slogan.
