CHASING GOLD MEDALS: SEA Games Medalist Christine Hallasgo shares how athletic competitions brings hope and inspires

Growing in a family with 13 siblings, Christine has been tapped to compete in athletics growing up. With meager resources, not even having a proper running shoes at that time, she felt short of being able to compete in Palarong Pambansa in high school. She later on had to stop with studies to help support her family. Later on, she was driven back to the sport to earn herself a college degree through scholarship, a few extra income from race prizes and perhaps a chance to get a chance for better opportunities.

Knowing she has potential, she has set her eyes to get qualified for SEA Games 2019, held in the Philippines at that time. She almost didn’t make it to the starting line but fought herself to it and eventually became the dark horse in the marathon competition bringing the country its Gold Medal for the marathon.

Her success story was cut short as pandemic hits. With no competition in sight, her personal resources and training becoming restricted; even the soles of her running shoes have been wearing out. But she didn’t lose hope. This time, she was not just driven by how it can bring her out of poverty; but how she can continue her chase for the gold medal for the country and to inspire those who are losing hope.

With a less than ideal preparation for a marathon competition, she brought the silver medal. A rank short of what she ultimately hopes for during the game but a step closer to chasing the Olympic dreams.

We hope you get some inspiration from her – we surely did during this 40-minute conversation.

Join the Race Ya community at https://raceya.fit

For events REGSITER (raceyaya.com)

For your sporting needs: Home - Shop at Raceyaya

Hosted on Acast.
