I can't say we didn't take it seriously, but it definitely wasn't taken as seriously as I take it now. We did everything remotely from our individual offices, via Skype (even though both our offices were in the same house) and it was more conversational than what I've done over the last couple of years.

Laurel recorded with our dog in her office and, on the early episodes, he was often interrupting. One of the most common questions I get from people who've listened to RED Podcast since the early episodes is, "What happened to your dog?" 

This is the story of not just our dog, but two different dogs. And as an entrepreneur with an expert-based business, I think it's something you'll connect with.

Taking my own advice, and the advice of songwriters in Nashville, I took the last month to give the manuscript for my upcoming book a complete rewrite.

The first draft of this book was about 120,000 words. This one is just shy of 90,000 words. It's tighter, it flows better, and it's closer to being released, but there is still a lot of work to do.

But I'm back. Just finished editing a three-part series with Jeff Sanders that follows him from getting a book publishing deal, to writing the book, to releasing the book. The book is The Free-Time Formula and it's available now, but this series was recorded over the last year, when Jeff was going through the process, so you'll get the real information about what was happening and what he was feeling, not revisionism, which is usually what you get afterward since we soon forget the challenging parts.

I'm also in the process of figuring out my own book publishing process, which I'll be talking about here over a few episodes. I just finished what I think is the final version of the initial draft (I've had five of them) and am working on editing everything to get this book out within the next couple of months or so. Like my series with Jeff, you'll hear about this as it's happening in real time, so you'll get authentic information about what the process is really like.

And it's going to be much bigger than just "book publishing" discussion... This is a new market for me and it's a bit scary to make the jump, so there's going to be a lot of talk about the mindset of releasing something to the public, resistance, and more. I've started a new podcast just for podcasters. It's called Big Podcast Daily and, as the name suggests, a new episode is released every day.

Big Podcast Daily was originally a temporary project that I started to participate in National Podcast Post Month, an event similar to National Novel Writing Month, where the goal is daily action, either podcasting or writing. The specific goal for participants in National Podcast Post Month is to release 30 podcast episodes in 30 days.

I started 15 days late, so I doubled up, doing 30 episodes in 15 days, in order to complete the challenge.

If you're a podcaster, in addition to Big Podcast Daily, I have some great podcaster-specific marketing content coming soon... I'm currently recording some advanced training to help you market your podcast and build a big audience which I expect to release in January. In addition, I have a live event in Nashville planned for April.

I didn't care. I thought it was tasteless, but I expect Kathy Griffin (and other comics) to push the boundaries of good taste.

Sometimes you go too far. You can relate to this in your business, I know.

How do we know how far we can push things without going "too far?"

We don't.

Which is why going "too far" isn't my problem with Kathy Griffin...

When his mother was cleaning and putting laundry away, she came across a large brown paper bag that was suspiciously buried beneath some clothes and a skateboard in the back of her 15-year-old son’s closet. She opened the bag and found it was full of cash -- five dollar bills, twenties, fifties, and hundreds – all neatly rubber-banded in labeled piles.

Was the kid dealing drugs? Running a numbers game? Pimping girls?

No. She didn't think that.

"My first thought was that he had robbed a bank," said the 41-year-old woman. “There was over $71,000 dollars in that bag. That’s more than my husband earns in a year!"

The woman immediately called her husband at the car dealership where he worked to tell him what she’d discovered. He came home right away and they drove together to the boy’s school to pick him up. 

As it turns out, the boy had been sending out a "chain-letter" to email addresses he'd found online. He'd done it right from the computer in his bedroom.

It sounds like a great story... Unfortunately, it's not true.

I knew it was a scam, but I was curious... I called back and here is what happened.
