We did not think that the skincare industry discriminated against men for taking care of the skin, which shocked both of us. The treatment we received was equivalent to a woman car shopping with a man and the salesperson only paying attention to the man. Shocking I know!

We talk about our dating rules and why it is important to have them both as a single person or a couple. Rules exist to protect boundaries and ensure that everyone knows what the expectation is on a date. The fact that people do not respect our rules and then ghost us is despicable.

Ghosting : the practice of ending a personal relationship with someone by suddenly and without explanation withdrawing from all communication.

The Consent Academy is an educational collective based out of Seattle, WA. Our mission is to teach consent in all of its complexity, aspects, and potential. With over 50 years of education experience collectively, our approach incorporates disciplines of psychology, sociology, public health, psychotherapy, and personal coaching to create a systemic view of how consent impacts everyone from the bedroom to the boardroom. We believe consent is part of everyday life and its practice builds stronger, safer, and more connected communities.

We were founded in 2016 by our Director Sar Surmick. Finding that teaching consent was way more than one person could do alone, Sar brought together educators, therapists, coaches, and students with a passion for the topic. Our group began with some local backing and just ten volunteers, but has become a force for change. Kevin Patterson is an active member of the Philadelphia polyamory community. He's been practicing ethical nonmonogamy since August of 2002 after opening up a relationship that eventually became his marriage.
In April of 2015, Kevin was inspired to start Poly Role Models, an interview series for people describing their experiences with polyamory. Poly Role Models is part of a drive and a desire to change the way our lives and communities are viewed. It is currently the most diverse and inclusive platform for polyamory available.

To continue the discussion of polyamorous representation, Kevin has extended the blog's work into nationwide speaking engagements about how race and polyamory intersect. Their story -
After a good friend of mine contracted HIV, I designed, developed and patented a revolutionary, new condom called the Galactic Cap. The thing that makes it so unique is that this condom fits safely and securely only on the head of the penis, leaving the coronal ridge and shaft exposed for more skin to skin contact, more sexual pleasure and ultimately more condom usage throughout the world.

Currently, traditional condoms do a poor job of preventing pregnancy, HIV and STDs because most men don't wear them. Only 5% of the men in the world wear a condom. In developed nations, like the United States, Europe and Japan, condom usage peaks at only 20%. This means that 80% of men anywhere in the world are not using protection. Consequently, over the years HIV/AIDS has killed over 30 million people. That is five times the Holocaust! Additionally, 34 million currently have the HIV virus worldwide, and every year 3 million more people are newly infected. Obviously, traditional condoms alone are not solving the problem.
On the other hand, the Galactic Cap is projected to increase condom usage throughout the world. It works by trapping semen in an airtight reservoir cap. This prevents the transmission of fluid which can carry the HIV virus. In fact, The Galactic Cap is so strong that you can urinate in it and in further development it may double as a catheter for incontinent men.
In 2014, we completed a successful Indiegogo Crowd Funding Campaign for the Galactic Cap, raising over $100,000 from supporters in 26 countries around the world. Along the way we generated lots of buzz. In three days, our video had over a million views! Besides the initial article in the LA Weekly, we were written up in the Huffington Post, New York Daily News, UK Daily Mail, Cosmopolitan, GQ, Glamour, Askmen, TechCrunch, DailyBuzz, Gismodo-India and translated into German, French and Spanish.
Our company has gained approval from California State University, Long Beach to partner on further research, development, and testing. We feel, that we can save over 100,000 lives every year through HIV prevention with this revolutionary new product and enhance the sexual pleasure of every man and woman on the planet.

I was born a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, but I ultimately grew up in Little Rock and central Florida. My parents divorced when I was young, so I mostly grew up with my mom and sister. I was quite the nerdy kid and I was picked on quite a bit and even bullied on occasion. I grew up in a time, where it seemed to be quite unhip to be a virgin and for the longest time I thought that I might always be unhip. In the meantime, I formed a very close and personal relationship with music and I soaked it all in. I could spend all day thumbing through the records at the record store and then when I discovered MTV, I was in absolute heaven. With that, I began my road of passion with music knowledge and became a bit of an expert in the history of rock n' roll .

Nothing stays the same forever though and I eventually came into my own and randomly started getting girls to hang out with me until I ultimately got one to share her pleasure treasures with me and it was on from there. I then began my journey with the opposite sex. By the time I reached my early twenties, I already had a multitude of relationships and one night stands, but then I moved in with a girl and accidentally knocked her up and became a father. We got married but that wasn't meant to be and then I was back to the road of love and loss that I have continued to this day.

In the meantime, I have been to college six times and my highest degree a Master's in Educational Counseling. I have also served our country in the United States Air Force, which I did for a little over six years. I served during 9'11 and at the beginning of the Gulf War. I also tried my hand at marriage a second time, which also wasn't meant to be. That relationship ended about 14 years ago and that was when I really started working hard at getting my life together and whatever flaws I felt I needed to work on straightened out as much as one can. I am currently in a relationship with a girl that I have known most of my life and we are building a life together that seems to work for the two of us.

One thing you will notice throughout the interviews is the sense of community, love, respect, education, diversity and fun. That is what this event is all about. Everyone was very welcoming and accepting of everyone's sexual orientation and/or gender. There was representation from most of the various types of kink lifestyle.

We even had a pony social, which we forgot to mention in the podcast. It was awesome see all the various and beautiful pony wear. The after parties, dungeon rooms, casino night, cigar social and DJ PUP were all amazing. They do know the meaning of work hard and play harder.

September is #SexualHealthAwarnessmonth, tonight we are talking with The MamaSutra, Lanae St. John! We will be talking about how to build a healthy sexuality. Her adventures with her children, why she is my role model to being a sex positive parent. Why it is important to normalize the conversation about sexuality between parents and children.

Lanae St. John, DHS, ACS, is board certified sexologist, sexuality educator, and writer. She received her Doctorate in Human Sexuality from the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, where she focused on Child and Adolescent Sexuality. She develops curriculum, teaches classes, and works with clients to normalize conversations about sexuality between parents and children.

She believes that we must help adults discover a positive outlook on sexuality before they can impart wisdom to the young people in their lives. By teaching parents to nurture the budding sexuality of their children in ways that foster self-respect and acceptance for the totality of their personhood, she helps them raise children who become empowered, beautiful, strong, sexually healthy adults. She often incorporates pop culture, current advertising, music, and movie references into her teachings.

Dr. Lanae is the proud mother of two daughters, aged 15 and 13, with whom she has plenty of practice honing her communication skills and developing techniques to talk about sex that work. She actively embodies her ideas about honesty with sensitivity, empowerment, freedom of expression, and body-positivity with her kids. Vern Phoenix is a person who grew up as a blue-collar conservative Christian in Alaska most of their life, holds no college degree, and still came out this flavor of trans and queer. He is unlike a lot of queer folks in Portland, who generally grew up with liberal/wide scope knowledge, morals, and had more financial support and access to education. He did not have those inherent privileges to be on top of their politics and language that surrounds queer culture. Vern knows the struggle and the feelings of unnecessary shame about not having your script perfected, but was raised with the ideology to look past what a person is saying, and look to their heart and willingness to learn. And then educate them lovingly.

Nicki is currently enrolled in a Clinical Sexology doctoral program from the International Institute of Clinical Sexology under the supervision of Dr. Carol Clark and Dr. Patsy Evans with specializations in addiction and alternative lifestyles. In conjunction with her knowledge of sexual dysfunction and disorders, she has experience working with community based treatment (inpatient and outpatient), progress and substance addictions, working with survivors of sexual trauma, and experience with law enforcement and military populations. Nicki is kink aware, poly friendly, and knowledgeable with the LGBTQ+ communities. Nicki uses evidence based treatment methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, The Gottman Method, and EMDR with some eclectic interventions from other modalities. She works from a systems based perspective with individuals, couples, and families because behaviors do not occur in a vacuum.

Currently, Megan is the is the mother of two children and continues her sexual assault advocacy in her free time. She is a survivor of child rape and uses her knowledge of sexual violence to operate a website where she can give a voice to other survivors by publishing their stories, poetry, and artwork. Megan holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Community Psychology.
