Today, I get to sit down with someone whose brain I’ve wanted to borrow for a long time. My guest is Victoria Hudson, the founder and clinical powerhouse behind Restorative Resilience Counseling. She’s one of those rare therapists who has lived on the front lines of justice work, spending nearly fifteen years advocating for survivors of sexual exploitation and trafficking before bringing that fire and depth into clinical practice.

Victoria has built a therapeutic space that’s honest, curious, trauma-informed, sex-positive, and radically welcoming. What’s especially exciting is that she’s now intentionally expanding beyond a traditional private practice model, growing Restorative Resilience into a broader wellness community that treats the wellbeing of clinicians as just as essential as the care we provide to clients. Her vision is slow, thoughtful, and deeply strategic, investing in clinicians at every stage of their professional journey and celebrating the real, hard-won progress toward more accessible and humanizing care becoming the norm rather than the exception.

She works with people who’ve spent years being dismissed or misunderstood, whether that’s because they’re neurodivergent, chronically ill, recovering from abuse, or trying to reclaim their identity after a lifetime of being told who they’re supposed to be. She’s the clinician people seek out when they’re ready to challenge old narratives, explore consent and autonomy in real ways, and finally put themselves back at the center of their own life.

Victoria describes therapy as a ‘creative exploration of possibilities,’ which is exactly the kind of phrase that tells you she’s both brilliant and grounded. Her work lives at the intersection of trauma, chronic illness, identity, sexuality, empowerment, and clinician sustainability, and she approaches all of it with a clarity and compassion that makes complicated things feel human again.

So today, we’re diving into all of it: consent as a lived experience, the overlaps between trauma and neurodivergence, why so many clients with dysautonomia end up running self-advocacy marathons, what empowerment actually looks like in daily practice, how clinicians survive systems that were never built for them, and how healing becomes possible when someone finally has permission to speak their truth.

This is going to be smart, tender, nerdy, a little rebellious, and genuinely transformative. This is The Sexy Nerd Podcast, and I am thrilled to welcome the incredible Victoria Hudson.”

Hosted on Acast.
Welcome to the sex nerd podcast. I am your comic book-loving sex therapist host, Tim Baxter. On today's show, we dive into the transformative journey of deconstructing limiting beliefs, reframing negative thought patterns, and destigmatizing societal narratives around sex, identity, and relationships. Discover how to identify and challenge internalized myths that hinder personal growth, using narrative therapy and cognitive-behavioral strategies to rewrite your story. We explore creating a safe, non-judgmental space to embrace authentic self-concepts, tackling topics like sexual orientation, non-traditional relationships, and body image to foster empowerment and self-acceptance with Jamie Azar. Jamie Azar is a sex, relationship, and intimacy coach, educator, writer, and mindfulness practitioner, and owner of Erotic Expressions, where she gives people a nonjudgmental, confidential, and safe space to unleash their inner prisons and reclaim their right to pleasure. She specializes in helping people turn shame off and turn pleasure on through dismantling limiting beliefs, deconstructing, and destigmatizing harmful narrative constructs, and by helping clients reframe and redefine their understandings of selfhood, sex, sexuality, and relationships. She also integrates somatic-based therapy, breathing, relaxation, and focus techniques to further encourage the mind-body connection and to help clients develop tools to regulate their nervous systems. Ultimately, her work empowers people to live their most authentic lives, beyond pressure and expectations, and to embrace their unique erotic expressions.

Hosted on Acast. They provide players with the opportunity to assume different characters, navigate complex narratives, and engage with others in imaginative scenarios.
