Marissa Mascaro - CEO, The Candy Buffet Company

Marissa is a classic! She loved the company she worke for so much that she bought it! Growing up in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, Marissa's parents were great role models for her. Her Mum was a hard working hair dresser, and her Dad invented central locking keys for cars (I know!), so she had great work ethic from an early age. She also loved events, and talks about organising a family trip when she was young girl. Even then, she was project managing!

After leaving school, and TAFE, Marissa got straight into the workforce. Starting with her father, where she started the Mascaro Foundation and ran a massive event ever year to fundraise for the Make A Wish Foundation. From there she was headhunted by an F1 engineering organisation that worked with students. It sounds like n incredible experience, this was followed by a couple of other jobs, and then she started with the Candy Buffet company, back when it was only a couple of months old, and fell in love with it! From running Candy Buffets for Tiffany and LinkedIn, through to providing branded donuts for Oprah on her tour of Australia, Marissa has done it all, and LOVES it!

Renata Sguario - Founder, Maxme

Renata is extraordinary! As the founder of MaxMe, she is passionate about teaching so-called 'soft skills', those associated with EQ, to younger people. I have no doubt she will realise her vision and MaxMe will go global. Born in Ukraine (when it was part of Russia), she moved to Australia with her parents when she was about 6. She has two sisters who were born after her parents moved here, one is 11 years younger, and the other is 16 years younger.

Renata loved primary, and secondary school where she was clearly bright, but didn't necessarily apply herself as much as she could have! Uni was a different kettle of fish though. She got into Melbourne Uni and excelled, gaining High Distinctions throughout. From Uni, she landed an intern job at Accenture, which offered her a full-time role once she graduated. She ended up staying there for 7 years before heading off to London to see the world. In London, she landed (excuse the pun!) a role with British Airways and stayed for two years. At that stage, her parents had split and she came back to support them. She took on a couple of other roles in big corporates before realising, as she was about to turn 50, that she HAD to start MaxMe and teach these crucial skills. You're going to love this woman!

Katie Freeman - Investor, Advisor & Advocate for Women Entrepreneurs

Kate is an absolute firecracker but with all the smarts! After growing up in the suburbs of Melbourne, Kate didn't really like school, or try hard, until she hit year 11 when one of her teachers told her to shape up, or she wouldn't pass, and so she tried, and ended up winning an academic award! This was followed by a short stint t RMIT studying PR, before she was offered a role at J Walter Thompson. From there, she headed to London and worked there for 4 years, honing her skills in marketing and comms in some amazing roles.

She returned to Australia and started working with NAB, which she credits as being her 'career role'. She stayed for 11 years and worked with some extraordinary women doing some amazing things. After NAB, she went on to work within Xero, and was in marketing for Futurli until the pandemic hit. That has spurred her on to work with scale-up ventures founded by women, offering advice, angel investing and consulting to several women-focused entrepreneur organisations. Kate is such a fun person to talk to, and is so knowledgeable. you will get a lot out of this interview!

Eloise Tomkins - Founder, Get Over Yourself, Psychologist and Executive Coach

Eloise is so honest and transparent, that many women will relate to her story. Growing up in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, as the youngest (by 18 years!) in her family, Eloise had a difficult childhood with parents who didn't really get along. At the age of 14, her Mum found a new partner online, packed her bags and moved to the USA, leaving Eloise to pick up the pieces, and deal with her father who was not supportive. After finishing uni and qualifying as a teacher, she took off to the UK and Canada for a couple of years, before returning to Australia at the behest of her father who was keen for her to get a 'stable' job.

She arrived back with her boyfriend, who didn't last much longer, and then she decided to do a Psychology degree and help other women who had, like her, been held back by some type of trauma in their childhood. She also, at the age of 38, came out as a gay woman and was surprised by her Dad's reaction when, after all the castigating around her work and life choices, took it in his stride! These days Eloise is building up a group coaching membership focused on helping women to advance their careers by 'getting out of their own way'. Eloise is such a warm and nurturing woman, she will no doubt be a huge success!

Cherry Wills - Metabolic Balance Australia/NZ

Cherry's story is bound to inspire you. Born in a little town just outside of Birmingham, Cherry's parents were very supportive, but the private girls school she went to, had identified her as an introvert from a young age and she felt, as she reached her teens, that they had 'pigeon-holed' her, and so, against her parents wishes, she enrolled in the local Sixth Form College, where she flourished and her parents were delighted!

From there, she went on to study Colour Chemistry (you'll have to listen to find out what that is!), and then did her PhD in Colour Physics, before deciding it wasn't for her! Cherry took a few more years, and two children, before she realised how much she loved Nutrition, so she went and got a third degree, and started her practice. Then, in 2013, she and her husband and kids came to Australia and she hasn't looked back.

Cherry is the Australian and NZ licence holder for Metabolic-Balance. Originally from Germany, this 20-year-old program is run by nutritionists and genuinely helps people change their lives. It's not a diet to lose weight, it's a diet that changes lives by getting rid of the inflammation in your body. It works! You will love this story of Cherry and her journey.

Nat Tucker - Founder, Make It Look Easy

Nat has an extraordinary story and an endless amount of enthusiasm and confidence to boot! Born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia, Nat's Mum was instrumental in helping her with school as she is severely dyslexic. After leaving school at 15, Nat got into fashion retail where she quickly found her niche. Her customers loved her and she won countless awards. Then she got pregnant, had a couple of children and she and her first husband divorced. By that stage Nat thought she had everything pretty under control - and she soon met her 'now' husband, Travis. But then disaster struck. Her first husband was brutally murdered and Nat was told to get out of the country, so went to NZ. But the policewoman who was working on her case gave her some brilliant advice - the best way to stay safe was to make herself into a public figure.

So, Nat was the first person on social media to start to post an OTTD (Outfit Of The Day), and started to build a following. She soon realised that all her fashion experience had led her to a moment in time. The moment when she knew she could create a simple system to help women dress themselves, including accessories, easily, and in a way that worked. She created a colour system that has resulted in her having thousands of followers.

Since then she has created an online course, she has collaborated on fashion designs and colours she now sells to her community - and she is now talking about interior design and homeware as the logical next step. You will adore her story and be inspired by her career.

Jodie Atkinson - Grief Recovery Specialist, Author, Cabaret Creator

Jodie's story will probably make you cry, as I did, but it is filled with hope and positivity too. Jodie grew up in Victoria on a farm and had a great childhood. When she left school she wanted to be a performer or a police officer, but despite trying out for both, she was considered too young so she didn't make the cut for either, which was pretty devastating. However, Jodie took a left turn and spent the next few years in childcare, which then led to work for the Childcare Union, then the Hospitality Union and then politics. What a ride! It also led to her meeting her second husband Craig. Then, after 14 wonderful years together, tragedy struck, and, out of the blue Craig was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. Despite being told they had months before he would die, Craig passed away only 37 days later, the day after his marriage to Jodie.

Jodie, recovering from her own grief, needed hope, and she found it in a Grief Recovery Specialist course in Perth, just before the lockdown. From that course, she has now become the author of a book called 'Have You Met My Grief, a cabaret show she does around grief, and of course, counselling others who are going through loss - be it a relationship, the death of someone or any other form of loss that someone is finding it hard to get through. She is an amazing woman and I know you will get a lot from this interview.

Ildi Racz-Prosser - Co-founder, The Time Fix

Ildi's story is super interesting and we found it hard to stop chatting! Born in Transylvania (truly!), Ildi grew up with two parents who were in construction in Romania, a younger sister and a despot running the country. Not an easy childhood. Ildi enjoyed school, where she studied in Hungarian, and eventually lived with her grandparents until the age of 12 as her parents were on sites much of the time and couldn't really look after her. When she finished school, she got into Uni to study computers and coding, which she hated, so she left after 3 years and got a job as an office manager. Then she met her first husband who was a cartographer.

After realising that she too loved cartography, she and her husband ran a small business in Romania, until their two daughters were born and one had special needs. So they decided to move and Australia was the place they chose. Her husband struggled with the culture here but Ildi thrived, took up an MLM role with a natural products company, and the marriage fell apart.

As a single Mum with two kids, Ildi wanted to get some perspective and control in her life, so she created Antz Planners, and then moved into time and productivity management. She now runs The Time Fix with her two partners, Kirstin and Pooja and they help people change their behaviour and manage their time effectively. She also recently got married again. A perfect fit!

Peta-Gai McLaughlin - Founder, Iridis Cosmetics

PG is such an inspiration! From growing up in Penrith with two older sisters and a violent household, PG and her Mum then moved to Tassie, where she completed her high school and uni years. From an early age she had wanted to be an actor (why isn't that surprising?!) but her Mum was keen for her to capitalise on her excellent academic record, and so she did an Arts-Law degree over 5 years - and got married along the way.

This was followed by over ten years as a lawyer - specialising in superannuation. Not something that most people could imagine PG doing. It was while she was there that she had an epiphany. She had helped one of the senior lawyers get back her 'mojo' after returning from maternity leave. This included hair, makeup and clothes, and then watched that women, through glass walls, pitch to become a partner. It was in that moment that PG saw the power of makeup and how it added confidence and inner strength. And she wanted more of it!

After leaving law, PG realised she had fallen in love with her best friend, Kelly (now her wife) , and the two of them set up Iridis Cosmetics. From the start, it was about teaching makeup to women over 40 (ish), as well as having her own makeup brand. However, it has now morphed into glamtorials, teaching makeup artists how to apply makeup, and now PG is working with trans women to help them realise their feminine potential and feel good about themselves.

Anna-Clare Longford - Lecturer in Construction & Founder of Master and Apprentice

Anna is such a trailblazer when it comes to women in trades. She was South Australia's first female tradie in the construction industry and her story is so positive and uplifting, it will have you wanting to get into a trade too! Anna had an idyllic childhood, growing up as one of 6 kids in the Clare Valley in South Australia with a mechanic for a Dad and a superwoman Mum (that's how I would describe her!). From a really early age, Anna loved making things and her Mum said they always knew she would end up doing that. After finishing year 12, Anna took herself off to the 'big smoke' to do a four-year apprenticeship, which she loved. After that, she headed to Canada and the USA for her 'gap year', where she picked up cash jobs in construction along the way. Very cool.

She then did 'just about every job going' in the construction industry for many years before someone suggested teaching to her.

Anna loved teaching from day one - and when you hear her descriptions you will realise just what an amazing teacher she is - and has continued to teach, for the last four years being full time. Now it's her time to grow her profile and go out on her own, with her new business Master And Apprentice.

Rachel Pietsch - Voice Coach and Founder, Now Your Talking

Rachel's story is fascinating! After growing up in Albury/Wodonga as a musical child - especially piano - and then going on to study music and teaching at Melbourne Uni, Rachel had found her passion. She married very young, at around 20, after falling madly in love with her husband, almost at first sight, and went on to become a music teacher at a high school. But she hated it! After 3 years of teaching, she had to get out, and from there, she put up an A-frame at the front of the house to say that she offered music and piano lessons and the customers started coming.

Both Rachel and her husband were brought up in the Pentecostal Church, so when they decided to leave, it was quite difficult in social terms, but it was something that they both felt had held them back, and from the moment they left, they started to find their own voice and thrived.

Rachel now specialises in working one-on-one with adults, singing lessons, but also voice function, and how to have a voice for speaking on the stage. She is so knowledgeable as well as being kind and gentle, and this makes her the ideal teacher for adults who want to learn how to project, or change, their voice to project more or to change their tone. I love Rachel and I am sure you will too!

Kylie is such a warm and generous woman, you will really enjoy this interview. Kylie was born and bred in Cairns and stayed there til she was 17. She had a pretty horrible time at school with bullying, so when the opportunity arose to go to uni and then to Canberra for their Graduate Program, she leapt at it. From that start, she stayed in Government and moved into policy and then HR roles.

Kylie took a big leap, post-pandemic, and decided to go out on her own. She now coaches executive women who are looking for some purpose and change in their careers, through her Kylie James Coaching business, as well as recently starting Ruby HR for women over 40 who are looking for new roles. She is a firm believer in people and their value, and she offers a much nicer approach to HR than many organisations.

In this interview, we talk about older women in corporate roles, and the fact that women these days want purpose and passion in their jobs, rather than just money or moving up the corporate ladder. Christine Williams - Founder, Smarter Property Investing

If you love a struggle-to-success story, then you will love this episode with Christine. She is so inspiring! Having grown up with two brothers in a very working-class family, Christine went to 7 primary schools and 4 high schools, mainly because her parents had to move for financial reasons. This made school difficult as it is hard to make friends if you don't stick around for long, so teachers were a strong source of stability for her. But Christine was a secret genius at maths and numbers. And she still is!

After leaving school in year 10, married at 18 and pregnant at 21, Christine had a lot on her plate. She and her Mum bought a couple of roadhouses (truck stops) along the way and both were working 12-hour days which made it hard to look after her (by now) two daughters. Then she met Pat, who ended up being a second Mum for her kids. Serendipity!

Then she got into real estate and has never really looked back. Her book, 'Suddenly Single' was written about the end of her first marriage and how, with only $15,000, she bought a double-digit property portfolio, after her (now) husband encouraged her to trust in her genius and start her own business, Smarter Property Investing.

Louise Williams - Photographer and Psychologist

Louise's story is so interesting! Growing up in a tiny town in North Queensland, Louise was bullied at school and couldn't wait to leave. As soon as she graduated she headed for uni, where she loved it and chose to study teaching, which was the 'norm' for women where she grew up. After a short spell as a primary school teacher, Louise knew it wasn't for her. She had been doing telephone counselling for Lifeline on the side, and it was from that experience that she decided she would love to become a psychologist. Of course, she not only got the degree but then went on to do her Masters!

Louise's first real job as a psychologist was in a high-security prison. Talk about jumping in the deep end! She spent two years working with some of Australia's most hardened criminals, assessing them as they arrived at the prison and offering counselling if they needed it. It was during that period that she decided to go back to academia and get her Masters. This was followed by a few short stints as a counsellor and then she got the urge to go out on her own. She had heard about Organisational Psych and wanted to try her Jungian skills on business owners.

After a few years of 1-1 counselling, Louise's business was booming but she was burning out. Too many patients and not enough time to recover her own mental health led to her trying some creative outlets, so she got a camera and started taking pics. As anyone who knows Louise is aware, she is a genius with a camera, and it was this skill that she decided to combine with her psychology and work with business owners to discover their 'Future You', which she then photographs. Her results are absolutely stunning and you will love Louise's path to where she is now. What a woman!

Jessie Sadler - Founder, Christina Stephens Adaptive Clothing

OMG, you are going to be so inspired by this woman! Born and raised in a little town in the Gulf of Carpentaria (northern Australia), she had a great childhood at a primary school with only 30-40 kids, and then she went to high school in Cairns - a bit of a shock but she enjoyed herself. This was followed by uni in Sydney. While she was there she did an exchange to Malaysia, and when she finished Uni she went to South Korea as an English teacher.

After an interesting career that was a bit of a wiggly worm, she ended up working for Austrde, when her Mum had a fall and broke both her elbows. It was this that sparked the idea of adaptive clothing for disabled people. Clothing that is fashionable but allows people with injuries or disabilities to look good, as well as being practical and functional.

Jessie is now supporting the almost 20% of the population that identify as disabled, but have very little support in the fashion sense (most have to adapt their own clothes). Her story, and her vision for the brand, are so exciting and inspirational, it's hard not to get swept up into her cause.

Julie Hyde - Coach, Author & Speaker

Julie is such a lovely, knowledgeable and inspirational woman. You will love her story! Growing up in suburban Melbourne with one sister, she says her childhood was pretty standard. She didn't enjoy school though (other than sport!) and so when she left year 12 she wasn't interested in Uni, so her Dad suggested the bank. After starting out with NAB as a Teller, she rose through the ranks for the next 21 years, only calling it a day in her late 30s. By that stage, she was looking to do something different, still in leadership. so she started her own business.

After joining BNI (an international networking group), she found the structure and the networks really useful for the first 5 years as she found her feet as a business owner. Then she started her own women's business group, and moved more into consulting. She even wrote a book called "Busy', about the culture of keeping yourself busy as a bit of a 'badge of honour'. She got a nasty shock with a cancer diagnosis in the early days of the Pandemic, which shifted her perspective with a lot of things, unsurprisingly.

Julie is passionate about ledership, and helping people realise that they are the masters (or mistresses) of their own destiny, and they can lead a life that they want if they follow their own path.

Christina Joy - Business mentor & Author

Christina's story will resonate with so many women! After growing up in a traditional Greek family in Brissie, Christina never really had much confidence or self-belief, so to a large extent she did what was expected of her by her father first, and then her husband of 29 years. Then she had a bit of an epiphany and decided to take back the reins when it came to her life, and everything changed. She wrote two books, the first - How to Have It All (which was best-seller, with over 10,000 books sold), followed by her second book, True Believers. The process of writing made her realise that she wanted to help other women just like her, and so she started her career as a thought leader, helping others find their joy and reclaim their life to have balance as well as success, love and kindness as well as family and friendship.

These days Christina is based in Noosa, she has found the love of her life, she works for only 3 days a week and she shares her tips for balance, her own story of deep thinking and understanding what really gave her passion and purpose, and how she helps women find the same in their life. Christina also loves love! In this interview you will hear what she did, over the course of a few years of dating, to find her perfect match, and how you can find that too. Faye shares the journey of her business, which she started with her husband over 35 years ago. Nicole Hatherly - Founder, Brand True North

Nicole is one of those women you just want to know! Born and bred in Canberra, Nicole and a friend drove to Sydney for a holiday when she was 17, and decided to stay! Within about two days, she and her friend found work and then a flat and they were off! Nic started off in hospitality but soon moved into the advertising and agency world, culminating in a stint working in Paris. She loved computers and the digital world, almost before the rest of the world caught up, and that has led her to some interesting roles and experiences.

Upon her return from Paris, she went from Leo Burnett's ad agency to Foxtel and then on to the Commonwealth Bank, where she set up Women in Focus. After a decade there, she went out on her own and established her company, Brand True North, where she works with brands to help them tell their stories. You will hear that stories are a common thread throughout her life, and Nic truly understands the power of storytelling for brands.

These days she works with celebrities in Australia and overseas, to help them build their profile. She is also an in-demand keynote and a wonderful advocate for women. You are going to love Nic's energy and enthusiasm. This is a fabulous, uplifting episode.

Hacia Atherton - Founder, Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT)

This is just the BEST interview, because Hacia is extraordinary. Having grown up in a family of plumbers she is the 5th generation), Hacia grew up in rural Victoria and primary school was tiny with about 20 kids. During this time she was a complete tomboy climbing trees, playing footy and having fun. Then in year 8 she moved to the city and to a private girls school - which was all a bit of a shock - and where she was bullied by the other girls.

Fast forward a few years and following school, Hacia tried a few different things, including law (wait til you hear what put her off the legal profession!), before she decided to complete an accounting degree. It was after she qualified that Hacia had the opportunity to work in her family business, trying out 'the tools' and discovered an absolute love for welding. She talks about how her own unconscious bias had meant that she hadn't considered a trade herself, but it also sparked the idea that she could provide access to the different trades for women, to encourage them to give it a try and consider it as a career...and Empowered Women In Trades (EWIT) was born!

Hacia has also had another, awful, experience that has shaped her world. Always a lover of horses and riding, one cold morning at the age of 29, Hacia was thrown by her beloved horse, and then crushed by the 600kg animal when it fell on her. This has led her to numerous operations, being told she wouldn't be able to walk (she not only proved them wrong, but she still loves to climb into skyscraper heels!), and then to positive psychology, which she is now doing a Masters in.

Belinda Bradford - Founder and CEO, Surf Getaways

Belinda is extraordinary and is an incredible entrepreneur and inspiration. Born in Sydney, Belinda and her family moved around a lot as her father was an engineer and her early childhood was spent in Papua New Guinea. By secondary school she lived back in Australia and in about year 9 she became a boarder at a Sydney girls school. A school that bred independence and a belief that the girls could do anything they wanted if they set their mind to, if they worked hard. What a brilliant experience!

Bel went from school to Grace Bros as an Assistant Buyer, and ended up as the youngest woman Buyer ever! From there she moved to working with Time Warner and understanding the world of movies and Entertainment, before going to Qantas. At Qantas she worked for the in-flight entertainment deprtment, and then struck out on hwer own. Her first ventiure was a service to offer a full in-flight entertainment service to airlines globally, which was valued at $55M the day before 9-11, and zero the day after. What a big lesson to learn!

After that she headed back to Australia and continued to work for others, before getting involved in another startup as a founding partner, which subsequently sold for $67M. Then, she could do what she wanted, which has let to the business she owns and runs today, out of Bali.

You will really love this conversation and Jules and Bel are very similar and share some great discussions around female founders and women in business. This is one defintiely not to miss!

Lindsay Nicholas - Founder, Lindsay Nicholas New York fashion label

Lindsay is a totally inspirational businesswoman who started her business at 49, and has plans to grow it in Australia and the USA over the next few years! Having grown up in Wellesley, Massachusetts with a sister born 12 months and 9 days apart from her, and a brother born on the same day, 14 years later, Lindsay's mother just loved fashion, and transmitted that love to her daughter. The girls were encouraged to buy timeless, classic clothing, rather than fast fashion, even for school, and that is very much reflected in Lindsays' own label now. Classic, luxury, and timeless pieces.

After a long career in marketing, management and advertising, Lindsay was living in Singapore with her current husband (you will love the story of how they met) when they agreed to split their time between New York and Melbourne...and then the pandemic hit! Now based in Melbourne with two stores, Lindsay talks about how she never saw herself as an entrepreneur until she decided, post 911, to start her own label and it took almost a decade to become a reality. Encouraged by her mentor, she took the leap and has had a few learnings along the way, but now she is on a mission to grow her brand and her market. Very much focused on women over 35 who hold powerful roles, her brand is loved by the omen who are her customers. You will enjoy Lindsay's story and be inspired by her leap into becoming a business owner later in her life. It just goes to show, it's never too late to do what you love!

Karine O'Donnell - Founder, Projecting with People

Karine has a lovely calm voice and manner that just makes you know that she would be great at managing teams. Having grown up in Mauritius until the age of 7, Karine, her brother, and her parents then moved to Australia for a better life. Only it didn't quite work out the way her parents had hoped. Her Dad was unable to get admin work for almost 9 months after arriving, so her Mother took a job in a factory, and that made it hard for the whole family, and really affected her parents relationship.

Karine breezed through primary and high school, starting a business doing Mauritian dancing along the way, and then took a job at GE in the debt collection department. A big learning curve for her after graduating with an HR degree! This job gave her the opportunity to move into different departments and try other roles before she left and became a consultant around project management.

Karine finally decided to make the leap into self employment in March 2020 (bad timing!) and has built up the business since the end of the lockdowns. Her 'super power' is helping organisations retain their star people, and to manage project teams (especially those that may be coming a bit unstuck) to ensure they meet their KPIs and deadlines.

I do love Karine, her positive attitude, her dedication to her work and the pride she takes in getting great results. I think you will find this interview very interesting!

Jess McDonald - Founder, High Tees

I absolutely adore Jess and you will too! After growing up in the outer suburbs of Melbourne with a lawyer Dad and a fashion designer Mum, she and her sister had a great childhood in a close-knit, creative family. after finishing school, Jess got a job at Bakers Delight where she soon became a Manager and really learned how to run a business with the support of her boss who obviously nurtured talent when he saw it.

Jess had a strong urge to travel so she was in her early 20'sds when she headed to Ireland for some adventure and work experience. Then she landed a job at Lush on Grafton St (the busiest Lush store in the world!) which she absolutely loved. Her commitment to sustainability, climate action, and dedication to making change happen was a huge inspiration for her. After Dublin, she and her Irish partner (soon-to-be hubby) moved to Edinburgh where they lived for almost 5 years before returning to Australia after the GFC hit.

Back in Australia, Jess was headhunted to work for Lush here, and then in Japan, where she was in charge of a massive shake-up of the 450 stores. This job was done from Australia (3 weeks on, 3 weeks off) and Jess facilitated some massive changes around remuneration and store structures. Her insights are fascinating.

These days Jess is the founder of HighTees, a brilliant business focusing on women in business, politics, and STEM which is distributed all across the country. She is also a consultant through her business Agents of Innovation, where she helps consumer brands grow and manages change, and she is also a Director in her family business (a board role she has held since she was 18).

Geraldine Cox - Founder of Sunrise Cambodia

Geraldine's story is truly remarkable. You will adore this woman! Born and bred in Adelaide, Geraldine left school at the end of year 9 and went straight to secretarial college, as many girls did back in the 60's. After a few years of doing general secretarial work, she applied for the Foreign Service and her first posting was in Cambodia. While she was there, she experienced the war with Vietnam and, as she says, she 'loves danger' - and boy oh boy did she find herself in some predicaments along the way!

Geraldine then moved all over the world, working in countries as diverse as Iran and the USA before coming full circle and heading back to Cambodia. While she was there she was asked to help a group of 24 children that were stuck in a camp on the Thai border, and so Sunrise Cambodia was born. Her stories of navigating the delicate political landscape are totally gripping - especially the one about how she ended up in her own home. This 78 year old woman is still fundraising every year to finance the Foundation, and is still looking for help from people and organisations who can assist her vision. Therese Tarlinton - Partnerships Expert

Therese is amazing! Brought up in Brissie by a single Mum, as her Dad died when she was 5 months old, Therese had a wonderful childhood. She begged her Mum to let her go to a Catholic High School with her friends, and while she was there she did really well. It was a conversation with one of her teachers, who told her she could do anything she wanted, that led her away from secretarial college and made her consider other careers. Upon leaving school, and with only $213 in her pocket, she moved to Redfern in Sydney (ignorance is bliss!) where she had a great job waitressing for the Novotel before she worked for Phillips and at the same time, decided to do a Marketing degree.

Soon after that she took on the Australian rights for Jeep prams, and that led her into the parenting industry. She learned all about partnerships from this experience, particularly a campaign she did with Huggies, which then led her to ask for the Benneton brand to give her the Australian rights for their strollers. This wasn't given to her automatically however. The job went out to tender, and low and behold, she won the global rights to the Benetton prams and ended up having HUGE success with the brand. There is so much to her story, with lots of twists and turns, but you will love every second of this interview. These days, Therese consults to brands to help them with growth and partnerships. Natalie Dawes - Founder, Aliferous Leadership

Nat's story is incredibly inspirational. Nat grew up in the Illawarra region with parents who both worked in the steel works, and her father was a narcissist whom she could never seem to please. Despite the fact that she was an ideal student (getting 99.9 for her HSC), her Dad never really 'got' her or supported her. After finishing school, she won a number of scholarships and eventually chose Economics/Law as her focus, much to the vocal disappointment of her father who preferred her to take the opportunity that paid the most money. Despite this, Nat finished her degree at the same time as working full-time in the area of economics.

In fact, her first boss was so impressed by his young protegee that he made her the 'face of economics' in the Illawarra region where she hosted events, was the media spokesperson, and wrote numerous articles around economics for the media. From there she ended up moving to Canberra where she took a role writing policy, got married, had two kids, and worked so hard that she ended up burning out. This was followed by a stint working for Apple before she finally, during the lockdowns, decided it was time for her to work for herself. The description of why she called her business Aliferous Leadership will probably give you goosebumps. It's very powerful! you will love Nat's story.

Santosh Kaur - Founder of SmartHeal

Santosh is such an inspiration! After growing up in Punjab in India, the daughter of a businessman and an academic mother, Santosh had loads of female role models who were doctors and academics on her maternal side, making medicine an easy choice for her when she finished school. From there she moved to Delhi and started her own private practice, and also ran a Health Clinic, before deciding to move to Australia.

Once she got to Australia, she decided against completing another 6 years of study to qualify as a doctor again, and instead, she worked as a nurse and focused on aged care. This led to her 'lightbulb moment' when she realised that with the advance of technology, there had been so many improvements to the medical profession, but wound care was still a very manual process, based on anecdotal evidence and experience. She wanted to change that!

SmartHeal is a clever new app that uses AI and can measure the length and depth of wounds, and provide advice on the best way to manage the wound. It also allows the users (currently Doctors and nurses), to access help remotely if needed.

Lauren French - Co-owner, Motto Fashions

Lauren grew up with both parents in the fashion industry. In this interview, which was also live streamed into the Motto Fashions Facebook group, Lauren talks about how she grew to 'hate' Motto as a young woman after years of having to hang around in the factory while her Mum and Dad finished work. Always a bit rebellious, in year 9 she was asked to leave her school after disrupting classes and forming a bit of a posse with some of the other girls. Her parents told her that she had to find another school on her own if she wanted to continue. Lauren applied for, and was accepted into a wonderful school where she really enjoyed herself as much as possible!

Following school, Lauren started a small business where she embellished clothing with jewels before her parents invited her back to Motto to look at the online business. At that stage, very few fashion labels were selling online, and Motto only had about 15% of its sales coming from the website. Luren changed all of that. She describes what it was like during the pandemic, and how they managed to keep going, turning online sales into 85% of the business. These days they have a huge online fan base (and their customers are really like fans!) and they run live sessions on Facebook every day. Junie Baptiste - Poitevien, Founder, Propel Innovations

Junie is such an inspiration. Wait til you hear her adventurous life story! Born in Canada to Haitian parents, Junie was a competitive ice skater as a child (from the age of 4!) and she had an inherent curiosity and wanderlust that has taken her on a lot of adventures in her life. After being discouraged from continuing in her ice skating career (grrr!) she completed school, and then uni, with the intention to start traveling as soon as she could. She did have a 3-month stint in India working with an NGO which was inspiring, but somehow along the way she worked in a bank and ended up staying, as she was really valued as a staff member, for longer than she intended. It wasn't until she was 23 that she resigned, packed her bags and left on a one-way ticket to Mexico where she taught English as a second language. After a year in Mexico, Junie found her next job in China - a very brave move considering she knew no Mandarin! She stayed in China for another year and then decided to come and investigate Australia as a destination, starting off in Perth.

Junie has all sorts of insights that she shares around Australian culture, and the exciting bit is that on International Women's Day this year (2023) she finally became a Permanent Resident, after a 9-year wait, and she is now on track to build an empire! She is conscious that there are no real women of colour in technology in Australia, so watch this space as she builds Propel innovations into a force to be reckoned with!

Elizabeth Williamson - Conflict Resolution and Relationship Expert

Elizabeth's story is totally captivating. Having grown up in the outer suburbs of Adelaide as an only child with an older mother and a distant father, Elizabeth was always out exploring the neighborhood. She felt a bit of an 'outsider' due to her background and the sterile, racist, and small-minded community she was surrounded by. And then, the day after her 13th birthday, her Mum died. Her father didn't break the news to her, the Principal of the school did, and she wasn't allowed to go to the funeral (even though the school sent a delegation). She wasn't comforted or nurtured through grief at all. School was not a place of happy memories for Elizabeth, and as soon as she could get away, she did. She had always been fascinated by social justice and conflict resolution (not surprising given her background), and so she trained to become a social worker. After a brief marriage at 19, she decided to go overseas to explore the world and then came back to Australia determined to work in the social justice sector.

These days Elizabeth specialises in working with individuals, couples, and businesses around conflict resolution and the best way to work through issues where people disagree. Her calm, cool manner and her warm approach makes Elizabeth ideal to work in this space. She is also a speaker. We didn't even get to the fact that Elizabeth is living with a disability in this interview, there was too much else to discuss! You won't want to miss this great chat!

Simone Roche MBE - Founder, Northern Power Women in the UK

Simone is just such a wonderful, wonderful woman that you will absolutely love her story. As an only child growing up in Liverpool, Simone left school and immediately joined the British Navy. This was at a time when women were not allowed to go to sea, so she started off in the office and moved to cryptography before learning how to be an Air Traffic Controller. Pretty cool stuff!

Simone has always been passionate about gender equality, understands the power of mentoring and knew the value of role models so she has always dabbled in this space through her various careers - after the Navy she moved into hospitality and events - and her passion drives her to create events that make a difference, and to work with purpose-driven people. Her first event 'on her own' was massive and she then realised how she could bring people together to make change happen.

Her story is incredibly uplifting as she talks about setting up Northern Power Women, and the Northern Power Collective, initially for school-aged students to talk to people in careers they were considering. She is a generous and warm woman and you can't help but be awestruck by her drive for change. This is an episode you would be mad to miss!

Brenda is just so lovely that you will adore her! As the founder of Be Keane leggings and T-shirts, Brenda is focused on making cool, well-made leggings for women from size 6-38, which makes it the biggest range of leggings available in Australia. And it all started at a wellness retreat when Brenda and the women she was with, were challenged to come up with a business idea. Having tried to find larger leggings and fitness clothing for herself, Brenda realised there was a massive gap in the market - how could curvy women exercise if they couldn't find clothing to exercise in!

Not only does Brenda source the fabric and get them made in Australia, she also designs the prints for the fabrics. She has also partnered with all sorts of NFPs and has worked closely with Taryn Burfitt around body positivity and her Embrace movie (sounds like a match made in heaven!) as well as Friend in Me and The Hunger Project. Amazing!

Having grown up in the suburbs of Melbourne, Brenda has had a varied career that has led her from banking to HR to marketing and now to Change Management, mainly in the corporate and government sectors. Yet her leggings and clothing ranges will create massive change for curvy women (and kids) everywhere! She is a true role model.

Later, once those women were trained up, Shraddha and Riya started to think about how they could help the women in their community get paid work, in order to be independent, and Fuzia Talent was born! Kate Christie - Author, Speaker, Time and Productivity Expert

Kate is just such a delight to talk to! Having grown up in Melbourne as the middle girl in a family of five, with parents as teachers, she was always a great learner. Her Father had a couple of secondments overseas so she had the opportunity to go to school in England, and travel a bit of Europe as a child, which gave her a taste for it! Once she finished school she went on to study law, before taking a year off (just before her Articles) to travel around Europe again, this time with a friend. This was followed by a decade in law, whilst also getting married at 24 and having 3 kids in 3 and a half years. Crazy!

Kate left the legal profession following a stint in corporate law at Telstra, and started her first business - an online portal for nannies and babysitters - which never really took off. Then she decided to do a one-year business accelerator which gave her the idea of writing a book and consulting, around productivity and time management. Fast forward to today and she is now the author of four books - the latest is called The Life List - and she is absolutely living her best life, and helping others to do the same. A Life List is the opposite of a bucket list. It's the things you want to do to enhance your life, not before you die. You will adore this woman, she's an absolute powerhouse, and you need to listen to this episode to be inspired!

Cassandra Cadorin - Founder CanTicket and Candid Marketing

Cassie is amazing! Based in Griffith, outback NSW, which is where she grew up, Cassie has done so much, not least of which is her latest side hustle (on top of running a successful digital agency), she has created CanTicket. CanTicket is software for designers and people who work in teams and need to measure the time spent on projects.

Cassie grew up on a grape farm (as opposed to a Vineyard!) and worked on the farm throughout her childhood, learning the value of hard work. She went to London as soon as she finished her education, and it was there that she discovered digital marketing.

After 5 years there, she came home to Griffith (quite a difference!), and soon after she hit rock bottom. Her marriage broke up, she was a single Mum with a young child living in a 20m2 home. But nothing was going to stop her!

She started a digital marketing agency, Candid Marketing, and has grown the business, employing a great team and has been working with some big (and small) clients. Her genius idea came through during the pandemic. She created CanTicket in order to retain her staff and give them all something to work on. These days she is winning awards for it! Greta Haywood - Founder, Haywood Solicitors

Greta's story is so empowering. You will love her! After growing up in Melbourne as the youngest of five, with an artist mother who is a strong, bohemian role model, and a German father who was a journalist. Greta tells the story of how she got expelled from her first day of primary school - an indication of her strong rebellious nature! Soon after, the family moved to Germany where Greta stayed until she was 17. At that stage, she decided to become a dancer (having watched West Side Story for inspiration) and she moved to England to pursue her goals. That led to her living in a squat in London in the Thatcher era, with punks and all sorts of misfits, which was one of the happiest times of her life.

After returning to Australia, and as she has always had a strong social conscience and feminist nature, Greta did a bit of journalism and politics and then moved into law. With her strong desire to help others, particularly women in family violence situations, Greta talks about her experience of working with female prisoners and patients in hospitals and how she helped them. These days, Greta is determined to help women who are going through a divorce, and I can only say that she is exactly the type of lawyer you would want to work with if you are going through a situation like this. Jo Stanley - Founder, Broad Radio

Wow! Jo is, as you would expect, an incredibly easy person to talk to, and an absolute inspiration! Ever since she started Broad Radio (by women, for women), I have watched her grow the business and I'm excited to see what she does next as they do a capital raise and turn it into an app and 'mainstream' channel. From her childhood surrounded by women, especially her Mum (who sounds amazing), Jo loved performing. Starting out a standup comedian, she and her friend Jodie J Hill were 'discovered' and given an opportunity to host a late-night show - which then became a morning show and ultimately, her breakfast show, The Matt and Jo Show on Triple M.

Jo is now the host of The House of Wellness TV and radio show, she has a column in the weekend newspapers and does so much more, but she always felt that there was a need for more radio for women, and when she couldn't get the 'big guys' in radio to back her, she started her own just as the pandemic lockdowns hit.

In this interview, there is much discussion around media content for women, inspiring role models, why we need to hear women's voices, and Jo's plans for Broad Radio. This is one episode not to miss!

Jody Euler - CEO and Founder, redhotblue Creative Agency

Jody is a very stylish and clever woman who has been running her creative agency for over 25 years now. Not a lot of women can make a claim like that! Born and bred in Mackay in a very close family, Jody and her sister grew up exploring the rainforest and the beaches around the Whitsundays. Her Dad had gone there to do a job as a young man, and never left! Jody enjoyed her school days in Mackay but decided very early on that she wanted to be a business owner, and she was quite strategic about it. After finishing school, Jody decided to do a specific advertising and design course based in Brisbane, but she couldn't get in for the first year, so she became a photographer for her local paper.

Then, after a year she headed to Brissie and qualified with a degree after one (very tough) year. That was followed by her time freelancing, and setting up an agency with two business partners. That business did not survive for long, and so Jody headed back up north to her family and friends in Mackay. It wasn't long after that, that she started her agency, redhotblue, in the rumpus room of her parent's house and one of her first clients was Hog's Breath, which is a big company for a startup agency. Jody tells the story of her first campaign for them which is very funny and won her the business as a client. These days Jody runs a team of designers, branding specialists, and more, and she and her team particularly like to work with business owners right from the beginning of their business life and to grow alongside them. You are going to love this woman!

Vicki Stirling - CEO of Startup Victoria

As CEO of Startup Victoria, Vicki is such a huge supporter of founders, and women in business generally and it was an absolute delight to hear her story. Born and bred in a tiny village in Yorkshire, Vicki's first job out of college was to work for Nike in Amsterdam. She describes her time there as pretty awesome due to the wonderful, inclusive, and positive culture. During that time she really honed her skills in product development and strategy! After Nike, she and her partner wanted to try living somewhere else and decided whoever got the first job would get to choose.

Vicki was picked up by Pacific Brands in Melbourne and so they came here. Lucky us! It was after a long stint in consumer products, including a time at Red Bubble that Nikki moved into the start-up community and her role as CEO. During this interview, we also talk about all sorts of business things including women and funding, the competitive culture between women in corporate organisations, and even the importance of getting into nature for your mental health. It's a wide and varied conversation with a very inspiring woman!

Sukey Xu - Co-founder & CEO of UMAMYA & CHEFIN

Wow! Sukey has a fantastic history of entrepreneurship and I was blown away by her businesses. Having grown up in a small province in China as an only child, Sukey only arrived in Australia as a young adult. After finishing year 12, she went on to study Advertising but soon realised her heart wasn't set on working in marketing and advertising roles. She discussed the options with her parents and decided she wanted to go out and explore the world - and she ended up in Australia.

She arrived here not knowing anyone and started out in a 'homestay' in north Sydney with a lovely Italian woman who looked after her and a bunch of other students.

From there she ended up moving out with a friend to a tiny apartment in Chinatown where 8 of them shared a 2BR place. Then she moved to Bondi and joined a party house where she started to understand hospitality. She and her husband started Chefin - where you can hire a top chef to cook in your home - and built software to manage the process. They have now served more than 50,000 people with this service.

Umamya is her new baby - it's a robot (like a fridge) that will do the jobs of kitchen hands and actually cook meals. You just add the ingredients and then the machine prepares and cooks the food in about 90 seconds. She predicts that it will save 30% of the staff costs, and solve the staff shortage problem, in the hospitality industry.

Lea Boyce - Director, Boyce Family Office

Lea is such a warm and friendly woman, she is a delight to interview. Lea is the co-founder of Boyce Family Office, along with her husband. The two of them manage the investments, philanthropy, and initiatives that are generated by their own family and they also help other family-run business owners. After growing up in the suburbs of Melbourne, the youngest of three, Lea loved helping her Dad who worked in the Hotel industry. After leaving school, and after a brief stint at uni, Lea had her first job working for Rosemount Estates wines. Another family business! Her boss was a fabulous, trail-blazing woman (when the industry was dominated by men) and helped her learn everything she knew.

Having married young, Lea and her husband moved to Moree, where their children were born, to work in a family business and then on to Wagga . Eventually, they moved back to Melbourne where Lea works full-time in the Boyce Family Office. She is the first woman I have interviewed who talks about her daughters being her inspiration, which I particularly loved!

You will adore Lea for her passion, generosity of spirit, and her focus on helping other female founders and women in business!

Nikki Cali - Founder, Wisdome

Nikki is amazing! As a woman who likes to make things, and create solutions for people, she is now about to launch a platform for online learning, libraries of content and memberships, which she is calling Wisdome. Nikki grew up in a close family with lots of relatives and laughter! She first discovered her love for design and textiles at 15 when she (and her little sister) used to constantly change the decor in their rooms, and their Mum told them that they would have to self-fund the makeovers! Nikki started sewing her own bedding, which after uni lead to her creating her own range of linen which she sold online.

Working for an architects firm for many years gave her a taste for becoming a Buyer, where she had to source products for their clients (and later, her customers) both in Australia, and overseas. That led to her running her interior design textiles business, which in turn resulted in her deciding to create an app to help them, and then a course. From that experience, she saw the gap for a complete content management system that was easy to use, affordable and didn't require a lot of technical knowledge, and thus Wisdome was born.

Linda Fisk - CEO & Founder, LeadHERship Global

Linda is one of my favorite women and has values that I am 100% aligned with, so this interview was very special. Linda's group, based in Texas in the US, is about lifting women up, supporting successful women, and doing whatever is possible to accelerate their path to success. Her background is extraordinary!

Linda, and her brother Rob, were adopted children, making them extra special, and their parents were a Cherokee Indian father and an Asian mother. Linda's brother is a Hopi Indian too, so as a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl she had some wonderful, and some awful experiences growing up in her very close and very loving family. Her father also moved around a lot with his job, launching new bank branches over the country, which meant that she was always moving to new towns and starting at new schools. Something she sees as a blessing.

After finishing school, Linda went on to Uni and then, during the next few years completed her Masters, and PhD in Psychology. A useful qualification when you are dealing with people! She then rose through the ranks of two huge membership organizations, and worked with elite business people and entrepreneurs who were, as she puts it, in the "top 1% of the top 1%". But she noticed that the women were very unhappy with these memberships.

They didn't feel supported, or even visible in many cases, and it was this realisation that lead her to start LeadHERship Global.

You will love this incredibly generous and smart woman's story. She is an absolute inspiration and you won't be able to help yourself getting caught up in her enthusiasm and kindness!

Cynthia Peretz - CEO and Founder, Metrolinx

Cynthia is a Property Advisor and Buyers Advocate through her business, Metrolinx, but she has a twist! She only works with one client at a time which means she gives them her undivided attention until they have the house of their dreams and then she takes the next client. Howzat?!

She also loves working with generations within the same family - first home for the kids, downsizing for the parents, upsizing for the kids when they have kids of their own, and so on. What a great model!

Based in Zimbabwe and then school in Johannesburg in South Africa as a girl, Cynthia went on to study Pharmacy at uni. After travelling to the Middle East and Israel in her early 20's, she met and fell in love with her husband in Israel.

She then went home and packed her bags and headed back to get married after 3 months. They came to Australia to visit Cynthia's sister and ended up applying to live here. Moving to Australia in 2012, Cynthia took a role in the food industry and then moved into the building trade. Skills she learned there, helps her identify great houses for her clients now!

Olivia Orchowski - Founder, FemTek

Olivia is the founder of FemTek, a smart ring, and app that has been designed to measure hormone and menstrual fluctuations in women, for use by personal trainers as well as for women to improve their body literacy. Growing up in Poland,Olivia has never really fit into a mould. She was always happy to follow her own path which lead her from being a young model at 15 to becoming a health enthusiast and personal trainer.

Working as a model to fund her study and lifestyle, Olivia became disenfranchised by the superficiality of the industry. She had a couple of serious health issues - diagnosed with PCOS at a young age, and more recently Coeliac disease - and so started to focus on her inner health and fitness.

As a personal trainer she found many, many women had hormone and gut issues and Olivia decided to dig deeper - but she couldn't find anywhere where she could access the data she needed to truly help her clients. So she invented Femtek! You will totally be inspired by her journey in this episode.

Melissa Edyvean - Founder, Bondi Chai

What a story! Melissa is the co-founder of Bondi Chai, the first powdered chai product available in Australia and she and her partner Martin started it after discovering chai in New York when they were there for the beginning of the millennium.

Melissa is so warm and engaging, and clearly, she and Martin are madly in love, so it's a really positive, uplifting episode. They have the classic startup story. Born and bred in Launceston as one of a set of twins, Melissa, and her sister bought a house at 18 because they knew that it would give them a strong financial foundation, having grown up with a single Mum and seen her struggle.

After many years of admin jobs, and after meeting Martin after a divorce, Melissa was up for something new! Bondi Chai has now been around for 17 years but the two naive founders had no idea what was in front of them. From finding a manufacturer (their first order was 2 tonnes!), to building a customer base, a brief foray into supermarkets, and then building a network of independent cafes that would stock their product, Melissa has been on a wild ride that still continues. Now supplying a number of countries globally, and with Heidi Dugan helping them to sell into China, the sky is the limit for this brand. You will be totally inspired by this story.

Christine Burns - Co-Founder, WALT Institute

Christine is an absolute firecracker! Having grown up in North Palmie in NZ, Christine loved sport, particularly hockey. Once she discovered hockey, she became totally focused on it and it informed many of her early career decisions, as she wanted whatever she was doing to fit in with the sport! She studied for as long as possible (because of the student allowance and flexibility it offered her for training), and she rose through the hockey ranks until she was playing for NZ.

Christine has so much enthusiasm, it is positively bursting from every pore, so when she was told that she would have to have an operation to fix her Achilles tendons in both feet, the doctor told her they would do them both at the same time as it was the only way they could guarantee that she would stay still long enough for them to heal! And then she went back to playing, coaching, and working with elite athletes just like her.

After a move to Australia to follow her partner, it wasn't long before the two of them decided to set up a business coaching leadership skills to women. The WALT Institute was named by a friend and mentor of theirs, as an acronym for Womens Authentic Leadership and Training. Great name! You will love Christine's passion and positivity in this interview!

Emily Chadbourne - Mindset Coach, Author

Em is a total life force, and you will love this interview as she is very honest about her life and how she has gotten to where she is. Having grown up in a tiny village in Somerset as the pampered youngest child, Emily loved her childhood and school years. When she finished, she got into hospitality in order to have fun and pay the bills while she was at uni in Winchester...and then she kept going. After her Aussie boyfriend suggested they move to Australia, she ended up in north Queensland and had the biggest culture shock of her life! By that stage she was 35, still working in cafes and she found it really hard to acclimatise after London.

They both agreed to move to Melbourne, and it was while she was recovering from her relationship breakup, and still working serving tables at a cafe, that a customer asked her why she wasn't doing something more with her life.

From there, Em became a relationship coach, and using Facebook lives s her marketing tool, built up a big network of followers. Then she fell in love...and got dumped...and that changed everything. These days Em is a mindset coach and has coined the phrase 'Unashamedly Human'. This whole episode is a long and meandering story of life, love, and how to make the best of it. You will love it!

Natasha Price - Co-Founder, InvincAble, Author, Disability Advocate

Oh wow! Natasha Price is brilliant. She is an elite adptive athlete, an entreprerneur, speaker, awards winner and author. Tash is truly a woman who has overcome obstacles most of us couldn't even begin to comprehend, and yet she is the most positive, inspiring woman I have interviewed yet! Born in England, Tash's father was an A-League soccer player for Aston Villa, which led to some bullying at school, making life difficult for her as the family also moved around a lot due to football commitments. In year 12 she got sick and, with no support from her school after medical issues, she was kicked out. Tash went on to complete school by herself.

Upon leaving school, Tash, who has Type 1 diabetes, headed to Australia for a 12 month holiday. Her story of having her car (and insulin) stolen in a remote part of WA, and the repercussions, are a massive story in itself, but this was only the beginning of the challenges life has thrown at her. Upon returning home, she persuaded her entire family to move to Australia, before she returned, for what she thought would be a year, to the UK with her little sister to look after her while she completed her education.

At this point, Tash's story becomes quite harrowing. She woke up on Boxing Day at a relative's house, and was blind in one eye. A week later, she lost the sight in her other eye and yet the doctor's didn't know what it was, so they didn't offer any treatment. As a result, Tash suffered permanent damage to her sight and has never recovered any sight in one eye, and has limited vision in the other. The doctors still couldn't work out what was wrong.

She later went on to lose the use of the lower half of her body and then, cruelly (and very fast), became completely paralysed to the point of not being able to even speak. It took four years of rehab for Tash to regain some independence and at that stage, she managed to return to her beloved Australia to be reunited with her parents. But she was bedridden and very unhappy.

Then, in 2017 she watched the Brisbane Marathon from her sick bed and told her fmily that she was going to compete the following year...and she did! Despite just about everything that could go wrong, going wrong, she completed the marathon which led to a training camp for wheelchair atheletes, which led to her trying to find a coach. Enter Adam Shepherd.

These days Tash and Adam run InvincAble - giving visibility to disability and empowering people regardless of ability, they do a lot of motivational speaking, coaching and consulting on Diversity and Inclusion. She has even become an author! Tash's story is truly inspirational, and if you realise what she has overcome herself, it should put any of your own issues into perspective. I can't wait to see what she does in the future. She's amazing!

Heidi Dugan - Chinese Celebrity & Business Growth Expert

Wow! This interview with the amazing Lucy Lloyd is a bit special! Lucy is the co-founder of Mentorloop, which is all about mentor matching, and making mentoring mainstream, and she shares her story about building the business, raising investment and how they coped during COVID with an openness and honesty that you will love.

She came back from the UK after working in digital marketing for many years, and soon after she and her friend, and co-founder, Heidi Holmes had the idea of making mentoring much simpler for people. Lucy was a little reluctant at first but Heidi encouraged her to give it a go, so they created a strategy, built a SaaS platform and went to market. the premise for Mentorloop is simple, people can register as mentors or mentees, and find their perfect match online. The software then keeps the relationship accountable for each mentor-mentee partnership with scheduling, reminders and more. Mainly aimed at corporates and big business, it has been a huge success to date.

They have done two cap raises for the business. One for $250K to get them started, and then a further raise of $750K to allow them to scale. She is very funny where she describes how they started off with big hopes for one or two investors, and ended up with 14 - all of whom they adore - many of whom invested less than they had initially thought they would allow.

With 8 aunts on her monther's side, she has had some amazing role models and mentors of her own on her journey. You are SO going to love Lucy's interview!

After having four kids, she decided to get back into the workforce part-time, started a job with a book printing company as the bookkeeper, and ended up talking it over! Then she started Independent Ink, a one-stop shop production company for self-published authors, and then co-founded Indie Experts, where they help authors from the idea through to the published book and beyond - understanding the overall goal of the author and helping them market the book once it is published. Kristy Moore - Founder of Travel Moore & Autism Travel Expert

Kristy's story is not your average one so hold on tight for this woman's amazing journey. Kristy was born into one of the 'rougher' suburbs of Melbourne, to a father who was a career criminal, constantly in and out of jail, and a drug dealing mother. Kristy was super talented at running and was working with Debbie Flintoff-King towards the 2000 Olympics, when at the age of 15 she was told that she would never be able to run professionally again. This had been her goal and focus for so many years, so when it was taken away halfway through year 10, she dropped out of school and took to drugs and alcohol with her best friend. What was the point of going on if her dreams had been snatched away?

Then, after 18 months she suf=ddenly 'came to' and went back to school, funding her school years herself. She ended up at a selective school (for bright students) and finished year 12 determined to become a travel agent, which she now is.

Kristy's story is filled with obstacles (eight miscarriages, cancer, Crohns Disease) but she continues to pick herself up and keep going. She is now Australia's only certified Autism-friendly travel agent, she has won a host of awards (and is a finalist for many more) and she is such a positive woman, you wouldn't believe what she has gone through to get here. You will LOVE Kristy!

Jodie Harrison - PR for Julian Assange

Jodie Harrison is an extraordinary woman! Growing up in Australia, she headed off to America at a young age. She met her first husband Peter Carrette in Sydney who was a photographer and the two of them set up Icon Images. Prior to the paparazzi phenomenon, Jodie and Peter supplied stories and images to media globally. Jodie mentions that it was actually her and Peter who introduced Angelina Jolie to Cambodia, where she adopted her first child, Maddox. Jodie spent many, many years taking celebrities to third-world countries and highlighting situations around the world where people needed help.

After Peter died, Jodie started to work with brands to help them with PR and, marketing, and because she had such a fabulous network she was brilliant at it! These days she is a partner at The Shannon Company, an agency that works with purpose-driven brands to affect behavioural change and during the Pandemic she led COVID communications for the Victorian Government. These days she is working with Julian Assange's team to raise awareness of his situation and hopefully get him out of jail. Freedom of speech is just one of the causes Jodie is passionate about. This is a fascinating insight into an amazing woman. You won't want to miss it!

Emma is extraordinary. Coming from a family that thrived on innovation and entrepreneurship, she grew up helping her parents with their magazines, with the expectation that she would continue. Trenna Probert is amazing! After a career that culminated in her being Head of Strategy APAC for Macquarie Group, and the same role at Blue Chilli, Trenna struck out on her own. Her greatest passion currently is Super Fierce, a business Treena founded. Super Fierce is a social enterprise Fin Tech that was built to help close the $30 Trillion gender wealth gap. Superannuation, for younger Australian women, is their largest financial asset.

Trenna wants women to be able to fund the retirement that they deserve and The Super Fierce platform is one that enables women to do this, as well as saving them $3,000 - $4,500 that they would normally pay if they were to seek the help of a financial advisor. Trenna wants to make appropriate, affordable advice is accessible to every single woman in this country. She wants to empower women to age with dignity, self-confidence and have the ability to become financially resilient. The fabulous Judith Rizzio is a style activist, an LGBTQIA activist, and her mission in life is to empower 50+ women in order to make fashion accessible to everyone. She has a very fun business called Out Of Our Closet. Judith has a real love for fashion but she discovered a long time ago that fashion is focused on youth and it's becoming less and less part of her life, but this isn't by choice. Judith's love affair with fashion started in the Bowery in New York. At the Salvation Army, she would dig through bins to find vintage clothes that she could tear apart to create something new. She's spent more than 40 years collecting, creating, and styling. Judith has run non-profit thrift stores and costumed high school theatre shows.

She learned to sew when she was in fifth grade and her love for stylish clothes came from her father and grandmother. Judith famously patched a pair of jeans for JFK Junior after he admired a pair of patched jeans she was wearing. She lived in a commune in the 70s and has even had a mini-documentary made about her through Vice Media. For 26 years Judith was involved in community relations on management teams for two of Portland's largest HIV agencies and this helped shape her life. She saw over 400 predominantly gay men die from the disease. She was also hired by HNM to be Iris Apfel's body and stunt double for a commercial. In Judith's words, "It's a damn right to look good in your clothes, in your body and in the world!"

Christina Ryan established the Disability Leadership Institute in 2016 as a professional hub for disabled leaders to build and support disability leaders. It is the first organisation of its kind globally, run by and for disability leaders. Christina advocates for the single largest minority group in the world and the UN reported that 15% of disabled people make up the global population, but Christina believes that it's closer to 25%. In Australia, only four out of 900 parliamentarians have a disability, and only one is a woman.

Frighteningly, violence in the disability sector is endemic. About 90% of women with a cognitive disability will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime, most of these women more than once. People with disabilities are often on the receiving end of discrimination and vilification. Christina has been a feminist since the age of eight and the women in her family have always been active in the women's movement, including her grandmother. Christina grew up knowing she could change things and make a difference. She did her apprenticeship at home!

Bron Williams is the Bias Specialist and as the Bias Specialist, she works in the area of unconscious bias. She's a keynote speaker and a writer. Bron wrote a book last year and anticipates launching it later this year. The book is called, What's Your Water. Bias is simply part of the way we think and Bron's goal is to normalize the conversation about bias to take away any stigma, guilt or judgment.

Working with asylum seekers on the Pacific island of Nauru shook Bron. She went there voluntarily when she was a Salvation Army Minister and she'd rarely mixed with anybody who didn't look or think like her and somewhere along the line, she learned that difference was a threat. Realizing her own unconscious bias, which lay latent through her conservative background growing up in white Australia, Bron had an "aha" moment. Rather than aiming to eliminate unconscious bias, she knows we are better served accepting that we are the result of our environment and inherently biased.

She had lots of pressure from her parents to study medicine so she completed a Biomedical degree before moving to Melbourne from India. In fact, she, just like her parents is highly educated and she also has an MBA in Business Administration and also achieved her Honours in Biomedical Science. But it was when she received her MBA in Business Administration that she knew this was the path she wanted to take in life. As passionate as Anusha is about her work, she also loves to go snorkeling. The ocean gives her a sense of satisfaction and relaxation and she is excited about all that lives below the water. Anusha would be a brilliant entrepreneur and this is on her radar and where she wants to land. She is definitely purpose-driven!

For the last five years, Kate Tiller has been running her own business called 'A Perfect Space'. Perfect Space's aim is to bring a new concept to market which disrupts and challenges the world of location scouting and connects film producers, photographers, locations and event managers to never before seen places. These places can range from beautiful mansions on the water to the shack in the back paddocks. This is Kate's third startup but is poised to be huge and she's a serial entrepreneur. Kate grew up in the country, on a farm riding horses and has her heart set on returning to the country in the future.

At university, Kate completed a double degree in economics and marketing and started working the day after she graduated. She's always had a strong work ethic and was determined to build her career from day one. Kate's been building businesses for many years and has more than 20 years of experience in the media, digital and production landscape and has founded multiple digital start-ups. Her three biggest lessons are: 1) Hire the right people and put them in the right roles. 2) Partner with the right people and make sure they have like-minded views. 3) Make sure to keep an eye on the bank account and don't let anyone access the bank account unless they have a share. The biggest turning point for Kate was when someone suggested she read,"Rocket Fuel". It's a book she recommends for all founders to help build their businesses.

Koko Casey - Motivational and Inspirational Speaker

Koko Casey is an extraordinary fierce woman with an inner strength most of us will never know. She has overcome life's biggest adversities and is a survivor and this has led to a remarkable new career. Koko is a motivational and inspirational speaker, working alongside the airforce on a high performance and safety team. They travel around to airforce bases to speak about managing stress, performance and safety because these people are operating at such a high level. The people Koko is working with are Olympic trainers and people from the Institute of Sport, sleep doctors and sports psychologists. Koko once operated at that level, prior to being involved in a life-threatening plane crash.

Koko decided that she needed to take control of her life early because, by the age of 30, she was divorced with three kids. She returned to University and proceeded to complete a Bachelor of Nursing. In Koko's words, "This was her key to freedom to get out of her marriage". Learning gave her the most strength and enabled her to move on and cater for her kids. Her career as a nurse progressed and she worked as an intensive care nurse before becoming a trauma nurse for V8 Super Cars. This led Koko to international atraumatic nursing where she travelled to different countries on a private jet helping save critically ill patients, also working alongside the Australian Defence Force. On one of these life-saving missions, the jet Koko was travelling in was caught in a major storm and the plane crashed into shark-infested waters at 200km an hour. Koko, and the other five people on the flight, were left floating in the violent ocean for 90 minutes, with only three life jackets between them. It was a miracle they survived and it was a miracle they were eventually rescued.

The crash left Koko with numerous injuries including spinal, neck, jaw and smashed teeth. After all this, Koko lost her financial independence and her freedom and felt as though she was slowly decaying every day. But, Koko is a survivor, a fighter and a warrior and came back fighting for her life. Understanding PTSD, anxiety and depression and understand how debilitating they are has given Koko an insight into adversity and enabled her to be highly successful at what she does now.

Catherine grew up in the eastern regions of Kenya and studied IT before diversifying into marketing and PR. She's working with African businesses to showcase their products and services and this catalogue allows Australians to collaborate with these African brands. This is the first-ever African catalogue like this. Quirky fact; Growing up in a rural village in Kenya, Catherine helped her grandmother farm the land by hand and fetched water carrying a large pot on her head, sometimes whilst dancing!

She is incredibly strong in every way and is the founder and CEO of The Heart-Centred Doctor, as well as being a physician in Melbourne. In her business, The Heart-Centred Doctor, Olivia is a medical leadership coach who helps busy high achieving doctors avoid burnout and exhaustion. She also helps them achieve balance, energy and time flexibility through her life transformation for doctors programme, which essentially is a one on one and group coaching programme. Olivia is also a speaker and runs workshops and attends speaking engagements on self-compassion and burnout recovery for doctors, so they can stay in the game longer as compassionate leaders and leave a positive legacy for upcoming generational young doctors. It took a traumatic spinal cord injury in 2008 to transform Olivia's life.

The experience was a radical awakening to her soul. Olivia was walking to work one morning and was hit by a car at 60kms which rendered her a paraplegic, paralysed from the waist down and she was told that she would never walk again. Olivia proved them all wrong and would not take no for an answer. So she travelled to Santiago, in the US and spent two years rehabilitating at a spinal cord centre called Project Walk. She truly is remarkable. Self-compassion is at the core of Olivia's business and she believes there are three steps required to achieve this. These are mindfulness, connection and acceptance. Finally, Olivia is about to become an author. She is writing a book about her spinal cord injury in order to help doctors utilise self-compassion and overcome burnout. One very quirky fact about Olivia is that she has watched every single episode of Master Chef live since it began.

Joanna Downer is the Founder and CEO of a startup called Kitl. Kitl is a tech-enabled and flexible job matching platform described as the "Tinder of jobs". It developed after an earlier creation of a similar concept called The Content Crowd. The brilliant and unique name, Kitl, was created after a brainstorm with Joanna's two partners and cleverly comes from a combination of Little Talent Tool Kit. After receiving funding in June, they re-grouped and set about structuring the business to create a better version of the platform and focused on labour-hire and legalities.

Currently, Kitl is experiencing a soft launch phase based around organic digital marketing such as blogs, strong content marketing and networking. Much of their business comes from word of mouth. One of their biggest challenges was taking responsibility for other people's money and they felt that they had to define each of their roles in the business. Their real challenge has been making strong decisions about the direction of the company and backing themselves in a different way. Joanna was also the co-founder of Snap Tribe and worked as the Production Manager at Babyology. Quirky fact about Joanna is that she once met Michael Jackson.

Debra Johnstone - Transformational Business and Career Coach

If anyone is living the dreamlife, it has to be Debra Johnstone. Debra is living in far north QLD and in her professional life she works as a transformational business and career coach. Most recently, Debra has been working as a transitional midlife coach, as well helping women entering midlife re-discover who they are and develop clarity on what they want in life. She focuses on women in their forties and beyond. Debra has had her own coaching practice for eight years but was initially working at a management level for small businesses. Her first pivotal moment came to her one day, on NYE, when she was de-cluttering her inbox and came across an old email about being a life coach. She immediately enrolled in a two-year certification. This change was triggered after Debra had reached a barrier in her career. She felt that she didn't have the tools and skills she required as a life coach, even though she was good at it. Growing up in Leister, in the UK, Debra was bullied at primary school so she left school at the age of 16 and began working in fashion retail because all she wanted to do was make money and travel. She eventually landed in Australia and fell in love with the country and a man.

When the marriage ended, Debra became a single mum and did lots of little jobs in retail and as her kids got older, she moved into small business management in different areas such as retail and events. Inconsistency of income flow led to a stressful life and Debra burnt out. She was doing too many things and the stress led to adrenal fatigue. Full recovery took Debra five years although she was able to return to work after 12 months. This period of Debra's life taught her the importance of letting go. She learnt to structure herself and created the Your Success Planner which is a two-yearly planner broken into daily amounts, based on giving yourself a structure to follow and setting goals. The Your Success Planner is a large spiral-bound book. Debra has also released a new program, earlier this year, for midlife women and beyond, for self-discovery. The greatest professional female mentor for Debra was Jo Attles, a four-time author and a weight-loss consultant. Jo gave Debra loads of marketing suggestions when she first started out and inspired confidence in Debra.

The biggest pivotal moment in Debra's life was when her father passed away. This left a massive hole in her life and she lost motivation and direction for everything. However, her father also gave her a gift and she started building a community for midlife women. She found purpose again by listening to her intuition. This isn't the end for Debra. Next year, she will be a certified yoga instructor and she has no boundaries anymore. One quirky fact about Debra is that she used to live on a barge in Leister and lived there for a year. Carol O'Halloran- Presenter of 'Over 50 So What!' & Speaker

If anybody knows how to re-invent themselves, it is Carol O'Halloran. Currently, she hosts and produces many TV shows and is commencing a new one through seniorsonline.vic.gov for the seniors festival. Carol started a TV show when covid first hit, for the over 50s market called, "Over 50". It's focus is that you can't use your age as an excuse to stop you and it's run through channel 31. In Carol's earlier years, she worked in TV and realized 10 years ago that TV is where her passion lies. Carol was born in NZ and after high school, attended a business course for one year. She then went on to teachers college for 3 years and majored in the Maori language and physical education. She became a primary school teacher for a couple of years but didn't enjoy the environment so she left. Carol's always enjoyed dancing and after learning ballet and jazz, started performing in nightclubs and football clubs before dancing on TV. She also ran fitness classes for women which she started doing at the age of 17. Carol has managed to reinvent herself many times over. She was one of the first people to instruct jazzercise and travelled all over NZ setting up franchises. One of Carol's greatest achievements was producing a fitness record on vinyl in 1981 which broke three world records and was on top of the charts, above the Rolling Stones, for 6 weeks. This catapulted her into a new mental frame of mind and she was only 25. Carol has been specialising in the over 50s since 1988 and has produced numerous fitness videos. She's travelled around the world training other fitness instructors and health therapists, with the help of sponsors. She's also had her own TV show called Slender Secrets which was an infomercial about weight loss. After fitness instruction, Carol became a product manager for a chocolate company and she travelled the world and managed to double the sales of the company in a very short time. She stayed with this company for ten years. Currently, Carol is a producer of her own TV show and she has full creative rights to it. She has also written a book that sold over 11,000 copies. Carol's biggest inspirations were Jane Fonda and Richard Simmonds and along the way she has learnt that networking and persistence are vital if you want to succeed. Carol's biggest pivotal moment came to her at the end of last year when she decided to never promote unhealthy foods again and to stick with her greatest passion, healthy living. She has re-invented herslf at the age of 64 and knows that she is not done yet! Carol is producing a TV show every week and she's extremely disciplined and tries to work from Monday to Friday only. Carol says that everyone thinks she's not domesticated what so ever however she enjoys knitting, sewing and crocheting.

Tanya Meessmann - Founder, Flame Shaped Girls

Tanya Meessmann is the proud owner of two businesses. The first one is called Girl Shaped Flames and it's a social enterprise focused on developing confidence in high school-aged girls. This was Tanya's first foray into entrepreneurship. The second business is a sister company and a not for profit called Unique You and Tanya is the CEO and a board member of Unique You. Unique You is a service where careers and guidance officers can peruse a database of women in male-dominated industries with their female teen students. They can book a 30-minute phone call with these women and are able to connect with strong female role models. Tanya's purpose has always been to do a good job all the time and she has always found herself guiding and mentoring young girls in believing in themselves, developing confidence and a drive to do well. Her first job was in advertising and her passion has always been creativity and filmmaking.

Tanya switched from advertising and spent 12 years in the film industry producing films. Her epiphany moment came to her whilst walking her dog in a dog park. She had a moment of peacefulness and found herself thinking about helping young girls who are struggling with confidence and self-belief and decided that she wanted to inspire them. Tanya now runs camps twice a year called "Camp Courage." This idea came to her after asking herself, "How do I connect hundreds of girls with hundreds of women?" At Camp Courage, these girls are taken out of their environment and given the freedom, space and advice to overcome fears. Tanya grew up in a small town in Central QLD and was brought up by her single mother. She also has a younger sister.

After school, Tanya attended Bond University to study IT, through a scholarship, but after three weeks, switched degrees to Communications. One quirky fact about Tanya is that she learnt how to DJ at the age of nine and she was lucky enough to travel the world and skipped year five.

Ayla is the wedding coordinator and founder of the ever-growing and unique business called Wed Sites. Basically, Wed Sites is an online platform helping couples plan their weddings. It can be accessed from anywhere and is your one-stop shop for keeping everything you need to keep track of your wedding in one place including budgets, guest list tool, digital invitations, dietary requirements and absolutely everything else! It's a personal experience for couples and the most appealing thing about Wed Sites is that it does not contain advertising. Ayla was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan and is an only child who was brought up by her single mum. After graduating from high school, Ayla moved to the US where she completed a law degree at university. Upon completing, she returned to Japan to look after her mum and studied web design. She later travelled to Australia with her partner and loved it so much that they returned to Japan for two weeks and proceeded to pack their belongings and returned to Australia on a student visa. Here in Australia, they developed an idea to create a WordPress theme and this was the beginning of Theme Boy, an online store based around creating sports club software.

After moving to Melbourne and searching for community, she discovered that the industry was male-dominated and began searching for female connections. Wed Site came about after burning out and Ayla found she developed a passion for wedding planning. She developed it after she got engaged and it was officially launched in late 2019. In the past 12 months, since covid hit, Wed Sites has had a 400% growth. Along her journey, Ayla realized that pricing is everything. Once she increased her pricing, her sales numbers also increased."Perceived value" is everything according to Ayla, especially because her product offers so much more than competing products and services. It's worth more and does more! Increasing her pricing has been her biggest pivotal moment, along with covid. Now that Ayla is 10 years into her journey, she's able to have a better work-life balance and chooses not to work on weekends. During the week, she has reduced her hours and now only works from 9-5.

Janelle Bostock - CEO & Owner, Women's Network Australia

Janelle Bostock, CEO and owner of WNA is an incredible woman! Her story is bound to keep you gripped. Having grown up in rural Queensland, milking the cows every day before and after school right the way through to year ten, Janelle knew what hard work was all about. Her purchase of the networking group was prompted by the premature death of her husband and the need for both support from her network (she had been a member since 2000) and for a new direction for her career. Janelle knows first hand the importance of having that support group around you as running your own business can be lonely!

Janelle and her husband were a tightknit team. He worked in IT and Janelle worked in Admin for Queensland health. She also organised huge parties for the company - 600 and 1000 person events - in her spare time! She was a natural.

After years of working full time and managing a block of units in Brissie, Bruce, Janelle's husband was diagnosed at 30 with a genetic heart condition that was terminal. After having their son, who was also afflicted with the same disorder, Bruce sadly died, and Janelle was looking for a new challenge - so when the founder of WNA called and asked if she would like to buy it, she jumped at the chance.

Dr Elsa Licumba, author of Freedom To Belong, migrant wellbeing coach and all round amazing woman is truly helping migrants in Australia with belonging, (not integrating!) which she explains in the interview. She is a migrant from Africa, and when she arrived she found Australia to be a little bit bewildering and unusual. Elsa believes that one of the biggest challenges migrants face when they arrive in a new country is blending cultures, so she is passionate about assisting other migrants to attain a 'belonging' mindset and redefine their cultural identity and sense of belonging while living in a new country.

When Elsa first arrived from Mozambique she was homesick all the time, comparing and constantly criticizing the values of her host land because it was all so unfamiliar. She was suffering from culture shock! Having grown up in a close family, and studied in Mozambique, she had assumed that studying in Australia would be a great opportunity and filled with joy and happiness. But it didn't turn out to be quite like that.

Her sense of identity and sense of belonging were significantly bruised and she later discovered that belonging is not about a place or geographic location- it's a mindset. This interview with Elsa covers some pretty deep subject matter and yet it's filled with laughter. I encourage you to listen and be inspired by this wonderful women!

Lisa has spent nearly 10 years and $1M+ developing a program to help reduce teenage road trauma. After spending 20+ years in professional motorsport she thought her experience would better be used for good rather than promoting people going round and round in circles fast!

Lisa:

"I was involved in a road trauma fatality when I was 22yo, and now have 2 teenage sons - boys are dying 4:1 on the roads. This is my purpose meets passion project.

Road trauma is EVERY parents worst nightmare - no-one wants to (and very few qualified to) sit alongside their kid & teach them how to drive. We let them fall over when they're learning to walk, but we don't want them to crash learning to drive. And reading a book does not train anyone how to drive. Nor is it useful for them to see footage of car crashes - do we show videos of people drowning before we teach them how to swim?

After 7 years our first program was launched in 2019 and went on to win the Australasian Serious Game Congress the same year with the highest score in the history of the event. The program is safe, fun and it works - our students rated 48% more competent and 17% less anxious. The program has many applications, including disability (autism, ADHD, ABI, anxiety) , rehabilitation, immigration, CALD, indigenous, juvenile justice, etc.

In 2020 the Victorian Govt conducted a Parliamentary Inquiry into the increase of the road toll (fatality rate in the 16-20yo age bracket up 300%) - report recommended the Govt pilot myDRIVESCHOOL® for learner drivers.

Road Safety is lagging in terms of tech uptake. Govt.'s need to adopt tech and realise/acknowledge & adapt industry knowledge v's academic papers. We haven't changed the way we teach people how to drive for 50 years! Top 10 best countries Globally for road safety - NONE do 120hours of training with 'lay driving instructors'."

Anni is such a total inspiration. She had two terrible car accidents in her early years, one at school and one after she finished. With both of them, she was lucky to survive and she has spent the last 30 years having operations to correct the damage. You would think, under the circumstances, that she could be bitter about the experience but Anni is such a positive person that she pretty much picked herself up, dusted herself off and maintained a positive outlook.

As an actor, Anni has appeared in some amazing productions but she has also written a book about resilience (who could be better qualified?!) as well as becoming a keynote speaker on the topic.

Teresa Sperti launched her very first business almost 20 months ago called Artic Fox. Artic Fox is an advisory and training organisation that operates within the digital and marketing transformation space. Teresa spent 20 years in the corporate world working for large and small organisations before rising to the top of her field as chief marketer. She found this role challenging which inspired her to work with different leaders to help them make sense of the digital world and she always wanted to start her own business before the age of 40. Growing up in an Italian family and one of three kids, she was surrounded by many inspirational women.

She studied finance and marketing at University and initially wanted to be a real estate agent but decided it wasn't for her. Teresa has had a successful and productive career and her first role was in Marketing for Ford Motor Company. From here, she moved to the travel industry which then took her to London where she learnt and developed new skills and ended up being head of International Marketing for a job board across five different countries. Two years later, Teresa returned to Australia and worked for various companies including Realestate VIew and Coles before entering the not for profit industry working for World Vision. At World Vision, Teresa entered an executive role at a global level, leading a team of 72 where she had lots of amazing outcomes and achievements but was forced to step down due to personal health issues. Inspirational women in Teresa's life are Christine Dietrich, who was Teresa's previous Marketing Communications Manager.

She took Teresa under her wing and developed and nurtured her. In the UK, Alex Farrell was also a big supporter and advocate of Teresa and is one of many amazing female leaders Teresa has been exposed to. Hilariously, Teresa was also the TV show The Price Is Right.

Rechelle Leahy - Founder of Regional Collab

Rechelle Leahy has her fingers in many pies. She lives in Armidale NSW and launched a fantastic business a few years ago called Regional Collab. Regional Collab essentially helps rural and regional businesses, specifically focused on women, with business strategies and creating financial strategies. Rechelle also does some entrepreneurship training and helps identify and create programs and projects within regional Australia, addressing a particular need for women. Rechelle is also developing a tech platform called "I Decide" which is an online platform for sharing people's end of life documents. She has a background in palliative care and noticed we all need a safe place to store our documents as well as preparing for the end of life. If that's not enough, Rechelle also sits on a number of boards including the National Rural Women's Coalition, the Classification Review Board for movies and video games as well as the Local Landsavers for Northern Tablelands board.

Rechelle has also recently launched "Mentor Walks" in Armidale. Mentor Walks is already established in capital cities however, Rechelle saw a need to launch it in regional Australia. This program is completely funded by the Minister of Mental Health and Women. Rechelle was inspired to set up Regional Collab because she realized through her own experience that the only jobs available were contracting jobs and she wanted to do something that was going to successfully impact the country. She applied for a tender with the Federal Government for regional trials and was successful. So for the last 18 months, Rechelle has been able to help people seek funding for their own projects. Rechelle started her education at boarding school in Armidale and then moved on to a law degree at university. She chose not to become a lawyer and eventually moved to Canberra with her partner and worked in various government departments. They lived in Canberra for 20 years before moving back to regional NSW. Rechelle has experienced many personal hardships including the death of her husband which is the reason why she is so passionate about helping others.

Brenda Debesten has lived an outstanding life! Brenda is a chemical engineer with over 15 years of experience in the mining and manufacturing industry. She also coaches women who are struggling to get ahead in male-dominated STEM industries to reach their full potential. Brenda grew up In Zimbabwe in a small mining town. Her father was a doctor and her mother was an entrepreneur who ran multiple businesses. She's a trailblazer and a go-getter. Brenda attended boarding school from the young age of eight and by the time she turned 18, she was inspired to become a chemical engineer. She applied to study university in Australia and the rest is history. Her first job was working in a gold mine in Newcastle where she was the only black female engineer. She then went on to work for the Australian Federal Government at a nuclear facility in Sydney. Currently, Brenda is working for her previous employer manufacturing ammonium nitrate and making bombs for the construction industry and she's based in Melbourne. New to the coaching industry, her passion lies in self-development.

She initially did some coaching with a woman named Janine Jackson who helped her dive deep and discover her passions. Brenda is now coaching other women in the mining and manufacturing industry who are yet to develop their own full potential. She's also speaking at University and coaching female students who are still at the front end of their own journey as only 12% of engineers in Australia are female right now. Brenda also runs a Youtube series called, "Chronicles of a female engineer" and she does a weekly episode on how to build visibility in your workplace and becoming proactive about self-promotion. Brenda has been helped along the way by Jennifer McKenzie, her general manager and Janne Jackson, her coach. A huge quirky fact about Brenda is that she once spent six weeks in a maximum-security female prison for a crime she did not commit. The biggest lesson in her life has been, "Your past doesn't determine your future!"

Tracy Sheen is an extraordinary powerhouse. From the age of 5, she knew that someday she was going to run her own business and that business is called The Digital Guide. Tracy helps small business owners navigate technology in order to run a successful business. Her journey began 30 years ago when she started working for Strathfield Car Radios selling mobile phones in retail. Tracy was incredibly successful and a customer took it upon himself to fly her to Sydney to meet Gerry Harvey. Four weeks later, Tracy began a new role at Harvey Normans starting up the office automation of the business as well as establishing the mobile phone retail division. She was only 21 at the time. Tracy had a long and varied career working in radio, TV and for Telstra climbing the corporate ladder fast! This powerful woman has numerous accolades including becoming Queensland's number one corporate coffee provider after successfully establishing her very first business. Tracy also started podcasting ten years before podcasts became popular as she's always been ahead of the curve and developed the world's first-panel style podcast called "Not Another Business Show."

This fabulous podcast averaged between 15,000 and 20,000 listeners per episode. Tracy's first book which she authored herself, will be released shortly. It's called "The End of Techno Phobia." It's a practical guide to digitise your business.

Shannon Gilleland - inventor of The Pronto bottle

Shannon Gilleland is one very determined woman. She's the inventor of Pronto Bottle which is a self-sterilizing baby bottle that every new mother needs! The concept came to Shannon after giving birth to her first baby four years ago. Shannon went straight to bottle feeding as she struggled with breastfeeding. The bottle basically has a button on the lid that activates the UBC in the bottle making it a more unique and efficient way of feeding as it literally sterilises the water, bottle and teet at the same time. This amazing invention eliminates the need to have numerous baby bottles. Shannon's background is in entrepreneurship innovations although in her earlier years she studied art, pottery, graphics and animation after arriving in Australia from South Africa.

Growing up on a farm in South Africa cemented the belief that where there's a problem, there's always a way to fix it by using your own initiative, as Shannon didn't have the money to buy things. Many hurdles and obstacles were faced during the setup and development of the business, namely in funds and manufacturing however, Shannon's determination and entrepreneurial spirit is truly impressive and has enabled her to succeed.

Currently, Shannon is working on the second prototype of the Pronto bottle and her big goal is to expand globally.

Catherine Cervasio - Founder, Aromababy

Catherine Cervasio, the founder of Aromababy, and Jules sat down together, in real life (!) to do this podcast chat and it was amazing! Catherine's brand is iconic for mothers, especially those with skin conditions, and her 26-year old business now exports to over 12 countries. But when Catherine started, no one had heard of natural skincare or organic products. Everything was synthetic. She had to start from scratch and really created a whole new retail sector around skincare products for Mums and babies.

Catherine grew up in a raucous Italian family and, of course, had a huge love of food and cooking which she still has! She started working part-time at 12 and left school at 15, eager to get out and start her career. from secretarial college, she soon moved into skincare, particularly for iconic women's fashion brands such as Sportsgirl, Portmans and Witchery. It was while working in this sector, and soon after she became pregnant with her first child, that she started Aromababy.

The interview is filled with wonderful stories of Catherine's trials and tribulations, successes and celebrations, you will love it! Cheree Stokes - Aboriginal artist, founder of Original Art By Cheree

Wow! Talk about resilience! Wait till you hear Cheree's story. After growing up in Queensland with, as she puts it, a 'dysfunctional family', and a father that was an alcoholic due to being one of the Stolen Generation, Cheree left home at 16 with a suitcase and $20, to follow her boyfriend. By the time she was 24, she had 4 kids. Her own marriage wasn't happy either and she was 36 before her kids had grown up and she decided to qualify as a teacher. She eventually left her husband but once she became a grandmother, she again had a full-time role looking after 5 of them when their mother was unable to.

Fast forward to today and she is the owner of her own Gallery in Trundle, regional NSW. After chasing her dream of being an artist, she secured a role as Artist in Residence at Uluru and that's when things really started to take off. The tourists in the region LOVED her work and wanted to visit her studio, but she was painting in a tiny house, where the double bed was the biggest space so she painted on the bed. Not a great place to bring visitors! Eventually, she secured a brilliant place in the tiny town and now she happily invites guests to come and watch her paint and touch her work. her paintings have healing dots and are meant to be touched.

Cheree's is a brilliant storyteller and you will admire her resilience and tenacity in the face of huge obstacles and challenges. She's an amazing woman!

Mia Maze is an absolute dynamo! After blagging her way into an international role with realestate.com.au, after suggesting to the CEO that they could move into international sales, she spent 3 years travelling backwards and forwards to Belgium, Italy and the UK securing properties and buyers from overseas. This was followed by a stint in a senior role for Endota Spa, which she absolutely loved, Then it was time to get out of the city and so she started a business called Click Click Boom and moved to the Morning Peninsual in Melbourne. The experience of living outside of the city appealed to their family so much that they decided to go further afield and ended up in the Bega Valley in southern NSW.

Having such a great business background, and being an entrepreneur, meant she quickly caught the eye of the Bega Council and started the Bega Valley Innovation hub in 2018. The BVIH served as an engagement space to attract and retain professionals in the region and to bring new ideas to market. Mia wanted to help the local entrepreneurs to think BIG! She started an iAccelerate program to help them on their journey.

These days mia is still involved with the BVIH but she also runs her own consulting business, Mazey Consulting. As her name suggests, Mia is ah-may-zing and has so much passion for entrepreneurship, you'll love this episode.

Chris Khor is a wonder woman! Having run her HR company for marketing peeps for a couple of decades (with some name changes and shuffling of staff), she realised that there was a weird thing going on in the business. The people who were getting the advanced leadership courses were the executive teams - but it is middle management who need it if they are going to get to the next stage! So she started Peeplcoach, offering on-demand executive coaching. It's a brand spanking new business but one that clearly fills a gap.

Starting her career in FMCG at companies like Kraft, Christine and a friend realised that there was a need for a recruitment company to help organisations find great marketers, and at that stage, there weren't any so she jumped out of her corporate role and started an agency. She grew the agency, found a new partner, became part of a multi-office network and then downsized. That agency is still going, albeit with a new name, Chorus Executive. Two children and 20 years later, Chris is passionate about making change and is also actively working with The Hunger Project, a glocal organisation with the goal of ending world hunger by 2030.

Carolyn Butler-Madden is the author of Path To Purpose and Founder of The Cause-Effect, a marketing consultancy that specialises in social purpose brand strategies. With a 30 year career in Advertising land, Carolyn felt that brands were losing their way, and research showed that people wouldn't care if 74% of the brands they used disappeared. But if that brand is associated with social good, and has a purpose, people re far more inclined to show brand loyalty, and to help spread the word. Who wouldn't want that!

Carolyn is such a fun person! Our conversation started with her ending high school in the UK and loving it so much, she returned as soon as she could. Carolyn LOVED her time over there and was supported by some fantastic women who elevated her to support her career, so she stayed for ten years with the one agency. Almost unheard of but it is a testament to the great culture of the company she worked with.

Once back in Australia, and having seen the incredibly positive results that came from a campaign that was linked with social purpose, she was hooked. It was time to help Aussie brands to have more meaning for their customers.

My latest She's The Boss Chats episode is with Sarah Morrissy, the Founder of Little Rockers Radio. Sarah is amazing! She founded Little Rockers Radio, a 24/7 online radio station for children, over 7 years ago (waaaay before podcasts!) after being unable to find a kids channel to listen to with her own kids, and it has grown from there. Sarah also partners with some fantastic social enterprises and charities such as Red Nose and The Alannah and Madeleine Foundation (to name just two) to help them fundraise. To date she has raise over $200,000 which is a huge number!

From her early career working at Moose Toys, she worked in the health and fitness industry for years before starting Little Rockers and she discusses the challenges she encountered along the way. Sarah is such an inspiring women, you'll love this episode.

What a woman! My latest She's The Boss Chats episode is with Tamar Hela, Co-Founder of Genius Encel agency in Shanghai, and Co-President of LinkedIn Local Asia. Tamar is an entrepreneur through and through! As a Californian native, her career lead her to a few different roles, including academia, before she made a huge leap to end up in Shanghai as a co-founder of her own company, Genius Encel which specialises in helping big businesses navigate LinkedIn for profile building and lead generation. After finishing school, Tamar contracted a virus that affected her for a few years before she decided she wanted to do something different. She wanted to build a big business of her own and when she got the unexpected opportunity to travel with her work, she jumped at the chance.

Her trip to Shanghai was equally as sudden and she describes arriving with 2 suitcases and very little money and no real idea of what she would do. That was followed quickly by meeting her business partner, who is French, and off they went to establish the biggest digital agency in Shanghai. She's amazing!

To recover from her stressful life she decided to move back from Cairns to the tiny South Australian town she had grown up in. Just for a month.

She is now married with children, has been voted Rural Women of the Year, is Telstra Women Business Award Winner, Westpac Social Change Fellow and she’s shaking up rural Australia and showing us a new way to build our next generation of rural leaders.

Jacqui Bloom - Founder of The Helping Hub

My latest She's The Boss Chats episode is with the incredible, inspiring Jacqui Bloom, Founder of The Helpers Hub. Jacqui started off her life working in the family fabric business and thought her future had been mapped out for her (to an extent). As one of three daughters, when her sisters chose other careers, it was left to her to take over where her parents left off, and so she joined the family business, and took it over eventually, running it for 10 years before she decided it was time to try something different.

Reeling from the terminal diagnosis for her beloved Mum, a lot of things in Jacqui's world imploded at the same time, including her marriage, and she was heavily reliant on the help offered by friends and family. That gave her an idea for a business when everything settled down again. The Helping Hub is for people who want to help their friends with something other than flowers! People can purchase 'useful', helpful gifts like cleaning services, or babysitting instead. It's going to be really exciting to watch Jacqui's business 'bloom' (couldn't help it!) over the next few months.

Wow! My latest She's The Boss Chats episode is with Katy Barfield, an amazing woman making a difference in the world. We all know about the amount of food that gets wasted in the world, and that there are lots of fantastic initiatives to share that food with people in need, but it doesn't really solve the problem. Did you realise that 1/3 of most food produced, doesn't get used? Katy was determined to make a difference, and to ensure that the farmers and people that are producing the food, get paid.

Starting off her career as an actor, Katy's career has had lots of twists and turns! Yume Foods came about as a direct result of the volunteering Katy had been doing. She helped raise the funds for a 1000 bed hospital for the women in Afghanistan that were starving due to the laws created by the Taliban, and that is when she realised that individuals really could make a difference. The idea for Yume Foods came one day after she saw a chef in her own bar throwing out food that hadn't been opened and was still in its packaging, but wouldn't last the weekend. Katy talks about the ups and downs of growing a company, managing a board, the importance of having someone that supports your vision - and what has happened as a result of the pandemic. In our interview we discuss her move to Australia, back to England and then back again, how her lack of schooling gave her a drive to be the absolute best at what she did, in order to advance her career, and how she has grabbed every opportunity given to her. The way she finally left her abusive husband with two young kids in tow and how the remark by a male colleague that domestic abuse was 'nothing to do with work' is what spurred her to to establish her business. This is one interview that will have you gripped from start to finish!

Jessica is woman on a mission to stop workplace bullying, and for a very good reason. After arriving in Australia in her early 20's as a backpacker from Wales, she was thrilled when she was offered a role in HR for a massive oil and mining company. The job was based out of Darwin and promised to offer her loads of opportunities to make a change. But then she came into contact with a toxic male manager and everything changed for the worse. Much worse.

After 32 complaints to head office, Jess was eventually listened to, but the company refused to fire the perpetrator and even though she has left now, another young woman has sadly had to go through the same thing. Since she has left, Jess has established Bullyology, written a book and has lots of plans for how to get her message out to as many organisations as possible. Workplace bullying is NOT acceptable.

Fabiola is the Founder of the Professional Migrant Women's Mentoring Program, which she set up after spending years-trying to get a job after arriving here from Venezuela (even though she was born here and has an Australian passport). Fabiola's story is one that will get you thinking. She was born here when her father, a surgeon, was sent here to learn how to do kidney transplants (Melbourne was the best in the world at the time), and she grew up with her father fondly remembering his time here and teasing her about being an 'Aussie'. So it's hardly surprising that she decided to move here for a better life, in her late 20's.

She describes the 'shock' of realising that her English wasn't good, and that her qualifications (she was a Criminologist) weren't really recognised here. It took her a long time to build her networks, get a good job and settle in. So now she wants to help other professional migrant women acclimatise themselves faster.

Listening to how Belinda took part in an Accelerator program, how that made her look at her business differently, and that she raised funding to grow is fascinating and really inspiring. She also talks about her relationship with her team and how they all work together to be flexible but also get shit done which will leave you thinking you wish you worked there!

Jenn is an absolute sweetheart! After growing up, and living in rural Australia for most of her life, she has had a very entrepreneurial career culminating in the ridiculously fast growth of her Facebook Group, Buy From a Bush Business, which at the time of our interview had over 272,000 followers after just 8 months! But it all started with a law degree and a conveyancing business in her 20's. Then, one late night after a few too many drinks with her bestie, she and Jenn decided to open a shop. Best friends since they were 14, they had always said they would find a way to work together, and this was it!

Their little shop became bigger and bigger, morphed into a foodie destination and then, after seven years they decided they wanted to pull the plug. It was time for something new. So Jenn partnered with a marketing specialist and spent the next 18 months travelling all over and learning about social media and marketing. Wanting to give back to her rural community, this was followed by establishing her social media and marketing coaching business, her Small Business Made Simple podcast, and then she got on the speaker circuit. So her Facebook group has been a huge surprise but she has learned a lot of good lessons she shares with us. This is a very inspiring story!

The piano was her first love and she learned as much as she possibly could from the local piano player which her Mum organized for her in exchange for cleaning her house. A sacrifice that has totally paid off!

She has created Yoga Hive, which brings together hundreds of yoga practitioners from all over the country and thousands of classes, so that we all have access to them and book in a type of yoga, and a time that suits you for classes.

She has also created Get Off Your Asana, a fabulous initiative to help educate yoga-virgins about what it can do for your mind, body, and spirit. They target non-yoga (and even no-exercise) people to encourage them to explore and hopefully fall in love with yoga. She also has another business called Off The Mat, where she creates sustainable yoga mats (most are plastic) to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Cate is one-in-a-million! She is so kind, non-judgemental and peaceful, you will love her!

Now, as the CEO of Boobie Foods, and turning over seven figures, Pinky's foray into products has changed her life and will be an inspiration for any woman who wants to expand. It's never too late.

Susan explains how she persevered when others had given up, her great partner and inspiration, Mike Usher, and how going to Educo changed the course of her life for the better. Her company is now the biggest revenue generator in Belize and they have created a model that benefits the people of Belize, her employees, her investors, and mother nature. We'd call that a win-win-win-win and so does Susan.

She has been divorced and been fired from her job on the radio, but the culmination of all this experience let her to go for it when she first identified the gap in the market for a safer type of taxi service, where people could trust that their children would be driven safely, that had baby seats and where a woman can hire another woman to take her home, if she has had too many drinks on a night out! Shebah's crowdfunding capital raising was once of the highest in Victoria, raising over $3 million from 3000 small investors. Watch this space as Shebah becomes a household name.

Louise Mahler is an absolute joy to chat to! An internationally renowned speaker and executive coach, she is also very funny and has loads of stories to tell. From growing up in the suburbs of Brisbane, Louise headed off to Europe and sang in operas from Vienna to Stuttgart and everywhere in between. And then she realized she had had enough and returned to Australia, a young divorcee with a small baby in tow.

This led her to find a 'proper' job so she worked with a big mining company in 'Quality Control' for a few years before leaving to focus on helping leaders have a voice of influence and a charismatic presence. "It's all about communication," she says. Starting off with free talks and working her way up to being able to command a fee of $US25,000 for a one hour talk in a stadium in the US, Louise has a career many Australian's would envy. And yet she is still down to earth, generous and humorous with her stories. One to listen to!

Make no mistake, Kate has worked very, very hard to get to where she is now but it's been worth it, as she will say. She has two membership groups - one for SEO and the other for Copywriting - and is now venturing into the area of building a personal brand. She's such a dynamo, and a really fun person so this chat is well worth listening to!

Run by a very entrepreneurial woman, Meredith worked her way up through the ranks but wanted to go home to New Zealand (or certainly closer!) so she thought about getting back and setting up her own agency, when serendipity stepped in. Her 'boss' was keen to be the co-founder and seed fund the startup.

Meredith talks about what it was like to land in Sydney with her husband. She knew no one and had $150K and a laptop as her starting point. She talks about what it was like to win a massive project with CUB when she was starting out, and what it was like to lose it because they didn't have an office in Melbourne. Something she now has, and CUB is a client again. It's a great story!

Stephanie is not your average woman. She always wanted to give back, from a very early age, so when she was on a trip to Nepal and she found 7 very poor, and disabled women huddled together without any of the basic necessities she decided to start there. Her NFP, Seven Women, has now helped thousands of Nepalese women by teaching them skills so they can support themselves and their families. This has led her to an Order of Australia Medal, speaking at the UN and all over the world about what she is working on and how every person can help to affect change.

I spoke to her while she was in Melbourne during the COVID lockdown which has obviously cutailed her travel, but not her passion or ambitions for her organization. She explained what a rock her Mum (and family) have been throughout her whole career and how with their support she is continuing to do things that will make change happen. She is soon to release a documentary and is going to teach herself PR. Her story is very inspiring!

Michelle Brown's business is called From Picture To Page and Beyond. She is a mad paper crafter and one day, out of the blue almost, she made an offer to the woman who was running her favorite crafting show, and it was accepted! So Michelle, who is an engineering consultant when she's not running crafting events, has plunged herself fully into running events for hundreds (her biggest one has thousands) of paper crafting enthusiasts.

Then COVID-19 struck and she was initially so despondent as the entire model for her business relied on supporting craft retailers and fans through live events. But never one to give up for long, she quickly set up a home studio and started running craft demonstrations online that are shared on YouTube and her website. She also opened an online craft store. Michelle is one of the loveliest, most thoughtful women on the planet and this story is one that's sure to inspire you to give running a business a go!

Kylie Bartlett is amazing! Her business, The Digital Talent Group is just the latest in a long string of businesses she has started - the first one being an RTO that she sold in her early 20's. She then became a speaker and has spoken at conferences and events all over the world, focusing on social media for businesses. Her book, Friends with Benefits, all about Facebook marketing was the impetus for the speaking gigs.

In 2019 Kylie decided to go back to what she loves, and set up The Digital Talent Group as a way of giving back. The idea is that they train unemployed and young people in social media marketing, putting them through a course that gives them a fully recognized accreditation. then they employ them to work on people's small businesses. Brilliant! COVID-19 threw a curveball though, just as they were pitching to VS's for funding!

Naomi Lambert – Founder of The Cool To Be Kind Project – spreading kindness globally

Naomi Lambert is the founder of The Cool To Be Kind Project, an initiative spreading worldwide kindness through very simple small acts of kindness. It all started in the lead up to Christmas 2017 when Naomi noticed a youth knock over an elderly lady without stopping to help or see if she was OK. That was Naomi’s eureka moment and it got her thinking about how she could spread kindness in the world. Naomi comes from a place of resilience and love. Having gone through a devastating loss in her life, she had to grieve, find a way to acknowledge the pain, and find happiness in everyday life. Naomi overcame the obstacles, changed her mindset, and came into the light again. From a small venture started in 2017 with 50 message cards randomly dropped in public places prompting kindness in those lucky enough to find the cards, The Cool To Be Kind Project has had a massive impact. There was the fellow who gave up a Christmas lunch to take out a homeless man to a nice restaurant for lunch and the 52-week Kindness Challenge with recognition from the likes of Ariana Huffington. Goes to show that a little bit of kindness and effort can go a long way.

Susan Jarvis is the founder of the Spicy Boudoir, which aims to boost the confidence of disabled people and people over the age of 50 and help them embrace their sexuality. Susan mentions that she herself just turned 50 a few years ago and noticed that, from her age group onwards, talk about sex seemed to be taboo and suggests this could have had something to do with the time in which this age group was growing up. She wants to open up the conversation and help older people feel comfortable in talking about their sexuality

Susan saw a need in the market and met it, with a tailored online adult sex toy shop for those over 50 and for those with disabilities. Her target audience is bang on because when trialing activity on Pinterest, she received a lot of interest - not surprising given the high arts and crafts content on the medium. She also launched the business with a n=bang! A highly successful PR campaign she did herself.

As a first time entrepreneur over the age of 50, and having worked within the health industry in her previous career, Susan bravely stepped outside of her comfort zone from the 9-5 to start her own business. In the interview, she talks about all of the research she did and the operational efficiencies she’s employed to keep down storage costs for physical products. Susan is passionate about her mission and product, and it’s clear that she has established a business that works for her.

Karina Bruce is an unstoppable force! As a curvy model, and the co-founder of Hear Us Roar, a marketplace for fashion designers who specialize in curvy women, she is determined to change things in the fashion industry - and no doubt she will!

In this episode, Karina and Jules discuss what it was like for Karina as a young woman who experienced bullying for her size at school, and how she eventually was persuaded by a friend to try out as a model. Her description of how she felt (sure of rejection) when she walked in the door of Vivian’s Model Agency is one many women will relate to. But she was booked immediately!

It was after Karina met her business partner, Blaize McCann, that the two like-minded women decided to set up Hear Us Roar. They were so fed up with the lack of fashion choices for women oversize 14 (by the way, size 16 is the average woman’s size in Australia) that they sourced the best designers and brought them all together in one place.

Karina and Blaize set out to find VC funding and Karina tells us what that was like. Unfortunately, their timing was a bit off as it was just before the Bushfires and COVID-19 isolation period but nothing will keep these women down!
