His statement came as speculation mounting that Shinde and other MLAs would join the BJP in an attempt to destabilise the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government."We have not left Balasaheb Thackeray's Shiv Sena and will not leave it," he announced in a statement. We have followed Balasaheb's Hindutva and will continue to do so."

Shinde and other Shiv Sena MLAs were staying at the Le Meridien hotel in Surat following the MLC elections.

In Surat, a Shiv Sena delegation led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's close advisers Milind Narvekar and Ravindra Phatak met with Shinde as well as other party members.
