There are lots of different reasons why a person might move to a new country.

They might move for an awesome opportunity to do something cool in a new place. They might move to a new country to experience a new culture.

If they live in a country which is unsafe, they might be a refugee and start a new life in a new country which is safer. That’s an important reason to move to a new country.

Today’s episode celebrates friends from around the world who have moved to Australia and now call Australia home.

Welcome to episode two, season two of Story Surprise. This season, we are focused on impactful stories, diversity, representation, and inclusion!

Today’s story is about gender. Some people identify as a girl, some people identify as a boy and some people are both or neither.

Today’s Story Surprise is called Betwixt. Gene isn’t a second-best boy or a second-best girl. They’re just Gene! Gene joins a new school and makes new friends who learn to accept Gene for who they are!

Katie says, “You have a right to dress, act and identify in a way that makes you feel good! Being non-binary is different for everyone! It all depends on the person!”

To get things started, join Anthony & Lauren with guest reader Juan Gomez for ‘My Shadow is Pink’. This story is about daring to be different and being true to who you really are. Scott Stuart wrote this story when he was forced to confront his own thoughts on gender stereotypes when his three-year-old son developed a love for Elsa from Frozen.

In the story, the child has a secret. The child isn’t like the dad. The Dad has a blue shadow. And the child, has a pink shadow.

Juan, our guest has experienced having a shadow of many shades and colours. We are very excited they have joined us to help us share this important story with your family!

Being unique is very special. Did you know that everyone is unique in their own way? What makes you unique?

Lauren has vitiligo. Vitiligo is a condition where skin loses its colour in patches. Lauren didn’t always love her spots, but when she found today’s Story Surprise book and song, ‘I’ve Got Spots’, it helped her to embrace her uniqueness.

This episode is for anyone who has ever felt different. You are amazing, you are strong, you are unique!

Mick loves his Grandma, and she loves Mick. In 2020, restrictions mean Grandma and Mick can’t see each other. Not for forever, but for a long time.

‘Mick’s Scarf’ is a heart-warming story of our times and the current challenges children and families face.

With a little imagination, Mick and Grandma go on adventures using the computer and their beautiful, big, blue scarves! This one tugs at the heart strings!

This story is extra special because it was written by Anthony’s mum, Bernadette!

It’s important to show our loved ones how much we care. Lauren and Anthony have written Teddy Bear Mick a very special song to do just that! This is an a cappella song. The kids will have fun copying the funny sounds and rhythms. Bop along for fun or grab your teddy and have a boogie with us!
