Doctor interviews patient on treatment that saved his life

In this very special episode, host Andrew was very lucky to be joined once again by thrombectomy expert and friend of SR Times Dr Sanjeev Nayak and former patient of Dr Nayaks, stroke survivor Peter Hooper.

Sanjeev and Peter lead this episode as they discuss thrombectomy and how it saved Peter’s life, having a stroke during the peak of the covid pandemic and partaking in stroke research. You’ll hear more from Andrew towards the end of the episode as he talks to Peter about his rehabilitation post stroke and how he was able to do it through the pandemic.

DMT as a stroke treatment?

DMT (N.N-Dimethyltryptamine) is a hallucinogenic tryptamine drug which naturally occurs in plant species such as Psychotria viridis or Chacruna. It can also be made in a laboratory.

We speak with Algernon Pharmaceuticals CEO, Christopher J. Moreau, on how they are trialling DMT as a treatment for stroke.

On this weeks SR Times podcast, we speak to captain of England's cerebral palsy team, Matt Crossen.

Matt suffered a stroke in 2013, after suffering an injury to the nose whilst playing for Northern League Division 1 side Marske United.

The stroke would leave Matt with permanent paralysis in his left side and he's lived with cerebral palsy ever since.

However, after picking himself back up and teaching himself coordination skills needed for football all over again, Matt got back to playing and was soon picked up by England's cerebral palsy team, who he now captains.
