Chances are, if you follow UK snowboarding at all, and certainly on Instagram, then you'll have seen a clip or two or Jamie riding his backyard rail set up, which alone is pretty insane. His tricks and style on that thing are ridiculous. But that is in no way the full story. Olympian, first UK rider to win a World Cup, video parts including the two Hemel runs (on our Youtube channel) sponsorship by Nike and so many podium places from a very young age, Jamie is definitely one of the UK GOAT's and fully deserves the Ender episode of our third season.

He is also a very thoughtful and funny guy. I really enjoyed spending a couple of hours in his company, and its mad we haven't ever crossed paths before, because he is definitely one of those people that are easy to get on with and great company. I can't wait to spend some more time with Jamie, I'm already hatching a plan!

Max is a dome kid at heart, but he has transferred his life to the Alps, killing the Penken Park, but low key enough to join us on the Thank U Snowboarding Community Building Camp to help people choose which of the new Burton kit will suit them best, and to help with a little coaching, certainly when it comes to park endeavours.

Max is a lovely guy, with a passion for snownboarding, an infectious smile and a great sense of humour, adding a different dimension to the camp dynamic.

His skills on a snowboard and the style he posseses are remarkably laid back, like his personality really, a joy to be around. See you at Spring Break soon homie. x

I know Sam through mutual friends and from the school playground and although I knew she had worked in the snowboard media, I didn't realise how hard she worked to make womens snowboarding appear as it should be and not just another canvas for make up or whatever. Her quiet influence on womans snowboarding is now reaping rewards as the womens events at the recent olympics are arguably more interesting than the mens currently.

Its people like Sam we need to thanks for keeping the media from turning our beloved sport(?) into something shit, and for that, we need to hear her story.

Thank U Snowboarding - S3 - Ep21 - Jon Weaver

Jonathan (or Jon, I can't decide) has been around the British scene for years, and contributed to it, and the wider worldwide scene in so many ways, from grom on dryslope to working with some of the biggest names in snowboarding then or now, he has loved snowboarding all the way through, and helped others navigate it.

There are photos of Jon riding a pre-Jamie Nicholls back yard dryslope in run to rail monstrosity, and also shots of him riding big AK looking lines, he was certainly no slouch on a snowboard, but its his enquiring mind that has set him in good stead in the industry, and also makes him one of the nicest, most down to earth people you could hope to hang out with, something I hope happens before too long.

This is a fascinating conversation with a genuine frother and a guy who is so knowledgable about snowbooarding culture and what it means to so many people.

Sketch is another one of those guys who has been around the scene for ages, and although I've seen and heard of him, our paths have never properly crossed, which is mad considering the size of the scene, which, btw, was and remains pretty small.

But Sketch is without a doubt a die hard snowboarder, and you have to be in Scotland and insist on riding the highlands, because it ain't easy. Conditions change minute to minute and you get what you get, but there is such a joy that comes with that, it almost makes me want to most to Scotland.

Thank U Snowboarding - S3 - Ep19 - Jono Cab 9 Snowboarding

Jono is another one of those people that upped sticks from the UK to devote and build his life around the shred. I'd heard his name mentioned loads of times because he also helped Chris Moran build his house, but I finally met him when we booked him to teach our kids to snowboard last Easter.

He has the unenviable task of showing three autistic kids the fine art of shredding, from complete beginners to being able to link turns in less than four days. He not only acheived it, but did so with complete calm and a smile on hs face the whole time. Carefully explaining and demonstrating the nuances of navigating your way down a mountain, and for that, I owe you endless pints.

Marcus' life took a pretty big gear change 13 years ago, with the death of his best friend and partner in crime, Nelson Pratt. Its hard not to mention Marcus without talking about Nelson and we do, but Marcus' story is pretty mad on its own. From blagging snowboards and convincing a major Tour Operator to letting him and Nelson be their snowboard guides, to the ridiculous slam he took trying to air over a massive road gap in Val D'Isere (complete with Audi TT underneath) to working for Snowboard UK, the UKs longest (at the time) running snowboarding magazine.

Marcus is also one fo the nicest guys you'll ever meet and is still as excited for the shred as ever. Sadly, the last two years I've been to Tignes early doors, are the only two years Marcus hasn't managed to make it out, so we caught up a few weeks ago via Zoom to have this chat.

Lee has had an inlfuence on the biggest company in snowboarding globally, not in a glamorous, pro riding way, although he was a semi prosketer back in the 80's. But in a practicle, problem solving way, which is s important.

From hand building his own boards back in the early days of snowboarding, finding his crew at Extreme in Doncaster, he saw an opportunity with Burton. So after writing a hand written letter, waiting for a reply and chancing his arm, sleeping (and nearly dying from hypothermia) in his car to make the most of a small crack in a door, he found himself overseeing new prodedures to make sure all of Burtons' products were the best quality.

Having hand made a snowboard myself, there is a lot of processes, most of which aren't automated, so I can image this was a pretty tough job, but Lee was the guy and to this day helps companies maintain the quality of their output.

He is sill riding his local mountain in Vermont three times a week, lives for the shred and as a geek for snowboarding, exactly the sort of person I like talking to.

I first heard Neils name when some waterproof shirts were quite the accessory, however, with a button phobia, it wasn't something I could go near. Since then, I heard his name quite often, often linked with James Stentifod on backcountry adventures, so I knew he was a rider of some standing.

Fast forward a few years, I'm sharing a room with James and Neil at Spriing Break, although our paths didn't really cross, even though we slept in the same room. Upon checking out I found out that Neil, or Wags, as lots of people call him, had settled the bill. That was pretty awesome, and a sign of Wags' generous nature, so when it looked like we'd both be in Tignes at the same time, I jumped at the chance to get him on.

He had more to do with the set up of British Instructors being able to teach around the world, is a highly respected coach and guide, and has a deep knowledge and love of snowboarding, so it was a joy to hear his story and we cover a lot of ground in this episode.

As far as success after a life in snowboarding goes, Nathan certainly seems like he won. He took his riding skills and combined it with a good eye for an image and became one of the stalwarts of the British scene and capturing it, and took those skills to the wider world and became a very sought after photographer. Indeed, if world famous celebs whom youve worked with are any measure of success then you could say Nathan is very succcesful.

Nathan has that rare ability to see things, to really see things, to question things and to think his way round things. Which is what makes this conversation such a wide ranging and interesting one (as far as I'm concerned) because one subject can pull in so many others and tangents are at least as interesting as the orginal subject, and that is something I love. Interesting, wide ranging, funny conversations and Nathan, or Nate, has that in spades.

He pulled off some truly funny skits in Lockdown Projects films (on our Youtube channel) can play the piano with some abandon and in fact, its kinda funny he is comfortable behind the lens because he is pretty good in front of it too.

This episode features a rider who owns possibly the best turn in snowboarding. I'll caveat that with 'that I've seen in real life' because the general concensus is that Josh Dirksen has the best turn, but I've never ridden with him. I have ridden with Owain however, and I wanted to follow his line and ride like him and I've not felt like that for a long, long time.

Owain is a coach and lives in a little village about Bourg Saint Maurice, which is where I used to live, but we met riding with a crew in Tignes whilst out at the Dragon Lodge early season. Whilst sharing a chairlift I found out a little more about him, his work on Jenny Jones' workshops, his involvement in Protect Our Winters (POW) and his life as a local in Tignes, and he just has a warm, low key energy that I really like, as well as some serious skills.

We talked a bit about the camp we are running in March and if he'd like to come and spend a day coaching with our clients and then we talked about coming on the podcast to talk about his career in snowboarding, one which is acheivable, should someone listening want to endeavour on a similar path.

I'm stoked he is coming on our camp, I can't wait to get some tips myself, and for the whole group to unlock the next level of their riding, as well as all the other cool stuff thats gonna be happening. Chris Carr is one of those riders whoo, in the 90's, was living for dryslope riding. A regular at Becton and Hillingdon, as well as a face and contender at any give drylope competition, Chris carved himself a nice little niche in snowboarding. Sponsored by Morrow and Special Blend (two holy grail sponsors) he may not have gone the biggest, but had a distinct and solid style honed from countless hours lapping dendex kickers.

Fast forward 30 years, Chris has lived and ridden in the USA, Austria and France, has worked in many different positions in the industry, finding ways to keep his dreams of shredding alive. He zigged to Austria when most of the UK scene was in France, was in Mammoth when the scene over there started popping off, got sponsored by Bud Ice, which for a snowboarder at the time could have been a nail in the coffin, but he took all these experiences and, started a company to act as the go-between between brands who wanted some of snowboarding and actions sports' shine and the core of the industry.

It's quite the journey and one Chris is still on as he takes his (nearly grown up) kids to the mountains and pushes himself to stay ahead of them. Its great to see and after 30 years of knowing Chris to say hi to, a pleasure to actually spend some time with someone who is still frothing for the shred.

Thank U Snowboarding - S3 - Ep12 - Hannah Duncalf

This episode is a great example of how Snowboarding, possibly unlike other 'sports' can bring people together. I'd never met Hannah before and we sat down as strangers, but by the end of the interview I felt I'd made a new friend. Then we went shredding and had a great day with a solid crew, some up from Bourg and other Tignes locals, all chopping around in the bit of pow we had, laughing on chairlifts and basically, doing what snowboarders do.

I wanted to tell stories like Hannah's because doing a season is a joy in itself, and for some, one season turns into a life and a career. I wanted to show that is is possible, no matter where you are from, that you too can carve a life out in the mountains, and that there are people that speak your language, come from where you come from, doing the thing you might want to do.

It is totally do-able and hannah is the proof, that as well as snowboarding, she had carved her career doing other things she loves too, it isn't just a subsistance lifestyle of doing whatever to get by (well, it might be early doors) but you can pursue your other passions out in the mountains and live a life that is rewarding in all aspects.

If there had to be one skier who blurs the line between skiing and snowboarding, it is Jim Adlington aka Skier Jim. He doesn't necessarily ski like a skier, and is definitely 'one of us' in terms of personality and outlook. Its quite mad that given the community in Tignes which he would fit right in with, he lives over the mountain in bat shit crazy Val D'Isere, a town which has transformed in many ways since I was last there 31 years ago. In fact Jim lives in the same apartment block that I first lived in for two weeks whilst trying to find a job and life over there when I was 19, which wa a bit of a mind bender.

Jim owned and ran Planks, a very succesful clothing brand out of Val and he talks candidly about that story arc, why it closed and what he is up to now. He loves DJing, which we did talk about a lot before and after I pressed record (a bit geeky even for me!) we took a walk round Val, Jim certainly is part of the furniture there, we could barely walk for 50 yards without someone stopping to say hi, and it was great to see someone be as fondly regarded as he is.

Jims love for the mountains is infectious, as is his interest in life. We talked a lot about all sorts of things and the podcast is only part fo that, I"m very much looking forward to hanging out with Jim again as soon as possible (he says loading a bag with vinyl in anticipation of the call...)

Thank U Snowboarding - S3 - Ep10 - Lewey Payne (Douk Snowboards)

If Lewey was hand building snowboards in the Alps, or Japan, no-one would bat an eyelid, but as a guy building boards in the UK, he stands out as different. But Lewey is a prime example of someone being exactly where they want to be in life. Sure, he could be a bit bigger and maybe have an employee or two, but as someone who loved snowboarding, who found someone needing an apprentice to learn how to build snowboards, local to where he lived in the West Country of the UK, whose Dad was working nearby and popped his head it to see they had received his application instantly pushing his CV to the top, is a wild set of circumstances. Or meant to be.

I enjoyed making this episode so much, from getting to know Lewey and our conversation, to the time spent building a board and getting hands on in his workshop.

Lewey isn't just a snowboard brand, maybe not even a brand, but he is a craftsman. Every board that comes from his factory has felt his hands a hundred times, the only automated process being a C&C machine to router the shape and the inserts, everything else is done by hand, and it is glorious.

Thank U Snowboarding - S3 Ep9 - Stewart Morgan

Stewart blasted into the snowboard industry, missioned with hooking up a team of riders and spreading the Oakley name as far and as wide as possible, and boy, did they choose the right person.

Anywhere he went, he would look after his team and associated people, if he saw someone on the mountain struggling with their goggles, bam, he'd hand them a pair. He was generous to a fault, I can only wince if I think how much product Stewart used to give out, but then again, that was his mission, and Oakley make fucking great goggles. In fact, I've pretty much always used them.

Stewart took that mentality to other sports too, watching Olympic athletes all wearing Oakley sunnies, that was his doing. His energy for looking after people took him around the world and he has countless outrageous stories to tell, we only scratched the surface in this interview, but he is genuinely one of the most generous individuals to have worked in snowboarding and there are a ton of riders who owe him their careers.

Ash is another one of those people who has an infectious energy for snowboarding. His path has taken in many facets of the lifestyle of snowboarding, from a job in the industry to playing in bands out in the Alps, (probably in the wrong order) and maybe he lost the love for it at points.

As a community we are thankful that Ash is still with us. Sadly, the lifestyle of snowboarding can be an easy place to get lost in, and I think this is a conversation that is starting slowly to be had, but one that there are quite a few people who aren't willing to have it.

Izzi has an infectious love of snowboarding, everytime I"ve seen her, she has a big smile on her face and you can tell she is so stoked on snowboarding. We met at the Spring Break and I'm sure Shannon from the TSA had mentioned her, so we got chattng and I found out she runs meet ups for snowboarders, which, I'd never really thought was a thing. Back in the day, you just went where there was snowboarders and you got chatting. But I guess these days, with higher social anxiety, amongst other problems, people want to feel like they will be safe and putting on social events is a great way to welcome more people into our great world.

Through her social events, there is a burgeoning crop of people who just love snowboarding and the people around it and are finding 'their tribe' which is great to see, and The Reason magazine championed that in the latest copy of their magazine.

Russ has been quietly shaping and documenting the best of British Snowboarding for as long as I can remember.

I didn't really know what Russ did entirely, he was just everywhere, at every event or happening for ever. I assumed he had something to do with organising things, maybe the Brits, maybe dryslope things, then of course, I noticed he started shooting snowboarding as more and more of his photos appeared in magazines. It felt like he worked with Snowboard UK and Document magazine mostly, and certainly whoever was coming off dryslope and turning their attention to bigger things, but I didn't realise just how involved he was in representing British Snowboarding to the wider world.

He is well tarvelled because of this, totally grounded and prior to the interview I enjoyed a ride or two dwon from the Kaurnatal glacier, chatting about all sorts of things, including his love of Lambrettas (definitely not Vespas)

He is planning to release a book of some of his fine images next year, which we'll keep you updated about. and is still frothing for snowboarding after all this time.

Its people like Russ that make the British scene, just regular people, with relatively regular lives, but with a deep love of snowboarding and the people within it.

Keep on shredding Russ. x

James has probably ridden more powder than any other UK rider (except Neil Mcnab probably) and has hard earned his repuatation as one of Europes best freeriders. From his early skate style snowboarding, to the big peaks of Chamonix, his career has taken him around the world to many far flung places, a bug for adventure he still services with his own camps.

Eschewing the usual pro snowboarder turned industry bod, which to be fair, he tried for a bit, he realised that actual snowboarding was way better than talking snowboarding, but instead of just persuing a solo pursuit, he shares his love of adventure and powder with his clients, making sure they have a good time, ride epic lines and come away safely to enjoy a beer at the end of the day.

Martin Drayton is one of UK snowboardings founding fathers. There it is. Simple. A kid from London who found skateboarding and then snowboarding, got himself to the Alps to do seasons, helped set up a frame work for teaching snowboarding, helped set up The Snowboard Asylum, was a pro for Burton back when no-one was pro, raced internationally, was a major part of Chalet Snowboard, even tried to qualify for the Olympics with no support from anyone, then tried again to represent Trinidad.

So many of my guests stories go back to Martin, he has quielty and modestly help shape UK Snowboarding, and there he is, 24 seasons deep in Park City, teaching people of all levels the finer aspects of snowboarding.

The word legend gets bandied about a lot (by me, I know) but this guy is one, at 66 stilll going strong, surviving a hit and run on the mountain, back on it, riding as many days as he can.

Ian came over to my studio with Jonny Weeks (S3 Ep1) to record their interviews, obviously I had known Jonny for some years although it had been some years, but Ian I'd never met.

I knew Ian had started Chalet Snowboard, as far as I'm aware, the first Snowboarder specific chalet holiday company, which, at the time would have seemed like lunacy as the numbers were still quite small, but they hit a sweet spot in the sports growth and enjoyed quite a success, which certainly opened the door to young snowboarders such as myself, to open more places for snowboarders to stay and be unashamably snowboard-centric.

He bought along some literature to look at, including old Burton catalogues (CSB was a Burton Test Centre) and a copy of some mens mag where he went on a sandboarding trip, fair enough, he was a handsome fella and still is!

Most of all, I loved Ians laid back and considered character, immediatly feeling at ease in his company and like we must have known each other for years.

Ian is still shredding having bought a season pass for Western Switzerland which gives unlimited days for over 100 resorts, I hope he gets a good return on his investment, and I hope I get some make some turns with him soon.

Mia is one of the current crop of young UK riders who are blazing a path into the wider European and Worldwide scenes, and its quite incredible to watch. I've talked about how the UK punches above its weight in snowboarding, and I think its amazing to see a rider from humble beginnings, Knockhatch dry slope, which is quite local to me, and tiny and I certainly didn't think there would even be a scene there, let alone a scene which produces world class riders.

Mia stood out in the crows at the Spring Break this year, her riding was incredible to watch, and given that Spring Break is mostly populated by balding middle aged dudes, seeing some young blood hanging out in the bar then slaying the mountain reminded me of my early seasons and its great to see snowboarding still has that spirit, that it isn't all gyms and training, because for most, its a fun thing to do, then to sit and talk about it afterwards.

She rides for Dragon Europe and Yes Snowboards as well as the TSA, clearly her talent and enthusiasm for the shred is being noticed and with such a level head on her shoulders and strong work ethic, I can't see how she isn't going to go far...

Its almost a lifetime ago that I last saw Jonny. We spent a few intense periods together whilst he was working for Airwalk and I was helping him out, normally in return for some beer vouchers and some kit.

Jonny is a legend in the UK industry, he held things down at Burton for quite a while before running Airwalk, helping them devolop a product line which, for a while, was one of the strongest lines of product in any brand, really innovative, stylish and well priced.

He is responsble for so many riders getting free kit to help them live out their dreams, and was always at the centre of all things good in the UK scene. Legend has it his way of choosing who would ride for his brands was pretty much who could keep up on a night out!

Aside from the fun nights out though, Jonny knew his way round the industry and had an innate sense of what was good and what was shit, and was one of the few people who made the leap to the big league out in the US.

He hasn't changed an ounce in the time I haven't seen him and I hope it isn't that long again before I hear that laugh and hear his stories.

What a day! This day was one of the most fun days I've had on a snowboard, I didn't want it to stop. I'd not really chatted with Mr Steve before, I was always a little bewildered about who he was and why he was on the Spring Break trip, but the night before we recorded this, we had a right chat about all sorts of things, sometimes funny, sometimes serious, but really enjoyable.

So I grabbed him for a few laps of the gondola and recorded on of the rides up.

Mr Steve is a very interesting guy, useful on a snowboard, thoughtful, sharp and engaged off, my kind of person.

I'm very much looking forward to more of the same in Kuarnatal next year!

Vicky and Nige are Mia's parents, and its always fun to catch up with them in Laax and go for a shred. I think sometimes they get caught up in the contest environment and forget to enjoy themselves. Well, thats where I step in! We went for a proper shred around Laax, joined as well by The Reason's filmer Duncan Wright, and had a proper tear up.

I recorded a few chats with these guys, because there was some questions we didn't get to when I interviewed them for the main pod last year, none of which come up on this one, but will before the main podcast starts again.

He is the owner of Signal Snowboards, as well as a bunch of other creative endeavours, turns up with an infectious energy and still throws down a beautiful backside air that has inspired me to get fit for next winter to get my own backside airs back, there is life in this old dog yet!

Here we talk about Signal and his journey, in a short cable car ride, and we'll be digging deeper when we sit down for the full interview sometime next year hopefully.

I only got to know Dan at Spring Break last year and immediately knew we would become firm friends. He is such a positive, funny, insightful guy. I haven't got him on the main pod just yet, but had a fun few laps with him and some chat out in Austria (not to mention a glorious evening in Innsbruck to top the trip off) and in this gondola ride, we talked injuries and getting older in snowboarding... enjoy.

Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep24 - Steve Bailey

Not many people can legitimately claim the title GOAT, but Steve is on that short list, in fact he might BE the short list.

The influence on UK snowboarding that Steve has had cannot be denied, whilst most people were trying 360's and 540's, Steve was blasting 7's and 9's way over their heads, on dryslope, which is fucking hardcore and not something that most people ever got to.

Steve is a cat, I've followed him round Les Arcs enough to see his natural ability to spring over rocks, blast massive and stylish airs, spin like a top and generally rule the mountain, first hand, and it is rare qualities he posseses as not many other riders have that. I think there is a reason why Chris Moran and Steve were friends and riding buddies because Chris has that ability too (when he isn't skiing obvs) but Steve really pushed it.

Picked up by Burton and championed round Europe, Steve was at home riding snow, dryslope, even shitty Ski Show quarter pipes where he sent methods more than head height out.

Steve is very happy in his own skin and lives life on his terms, sadly we don't see him snowboard much these days, but I'm hoping that changes with a trip to Austria in the calendar. He spends time manning the Snowboard Asylum in Chester and climbs as often as possible in North Wales, he is a man of few words and many cigarettes, and I"m looking forward to seeing himblast a backside air higher than ever soon...

In my humble opinion, its guys like Mike who made our culture of snowboarding. Sure, there were plenty of pro riders who shone bright, but, and I"ve said this before, its the guys like Mike, who love the sport with all their hearts and devote their lives to it, not in the pursuit of powder, but to getting people into it, understanding it, living and breathing it, which in turn has turned so many people onto the sport we hold so dear. Making communities that spread far beyond the bricks and mortar of the physical shop, lending boards, teasing the next seasons kit, letting groms watch videos in their shops for hours, going for a pint to talk about the next shred trip.

Mike embodies this more than most, his shed is now a homage to his life converting people into snowboarders and I sincerely hope, arthritis withstanding, that his days on a board haven't come to an end and that The Lecht gets a day soon that goes down in living memeory, I think Mike deserves that...

Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep22 - Elliot Neave

Neave, as everyone calls him, hasn't changed much over the years. He still has that mischeivous sense of fun, that infectious laugh and approach to things quite unlike anyone else I've met. Not qualities I needed to find at 4am after a cab ride back to my folks house after a night out in London and that laugh not stopping and waking them up...

Elliot shone bright in the UK scene for a while, heavily sponsored by Oakley and supported by Scott Todd, Elliot was a heavy hitter, lived for going big and pushing himself and a drive that was a rarity in snowboarding at that time. Elliot lived his life much the same off the board. The centre of any party or shenanigans, usually with a willing cohort of mates made up of the best riders in the UK, good times indeed.

We haven't seen Elliot on a board. much recently, I think some ex pro riders struggle with snowboarding after their career ends, trying to find the balance between fun and drive, but I hope we get to ride togther soon, I think he'll remember how much he loves it...

Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep21 - Ian Cocking

Ian has been snowboarding longer than most people on the planet. Not many people can lay claim to that, and the fact that he is from the UK, where no, or at least very little information was available, makes it even crazier. From taking a small picture from a Sims ad in a skateboard magazine, to building their own boards and bindings, to finding taxies to drop them at the top of hills in the Downs, I mean, none of it makes much sense, but something was ignited in ian which he nurtured and eventually used that fire to go on adventures and meet and stoke out other people to light their fires.

Its people like Ian who have made the British scene what it is, you can draw a straight line from Ians skate background to Mia Brookes' winning runs at X Games and the Laax Open, following what feels good.

We all owe Ian a pint, although I dare say he'd accept the praise, a humble snowboarder, still frothing for snow after all these years...

I had been aware of Snow Camp for a long time, one of the staff at our chalet had worked for them years ago, but they came more on my radar as they are based near to where I live in Hove. I had in the past wondered if introducing disadvantaged kids to the mountains was a good use of money, surely there are bigger problems to surmount, but as I"ve got to understand what they do, why they do it and what the outcomes are, I think its an invaluable opportunity for kids to discover who they could be and what the world can offer, through life changing experiences in the mountains. I mean, almost everytime I'm in the mountains it's a life affirming thing, and I'm deep in the game, just imagine what power that has for a kid who has never even left the UK, or maybe even his neighbourhood.

I knew Phil was already on the scene when I first picked up Snowboard UK, but I didn't know he was around from the very, very early days, indeed his youthful good looks and approach to life don't indicate that he could have been around for that long, but Phil is a lifer, through and through and he uses his experiences in snowboarding to be a kind of 'go between' for brands that want some action sports cool, and the worlds we live and hold dear.

His journey has taken him from hand building his first board, to hosting what was, at the time, Channel 4's most watched program 'Board Stupid' a kind of lucky break, but instead of treating it like that, he made sure snowboarding and its culture was presented in the right way, which I think has some part to play in snowboardings popularity in the UK.

Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep18 - Duncan Carr

Duncan Carr is and isn't your typical UK snowboarder. He has clocked more dryslope time than probably anyone except absolute lunatics, but kind of never went and did a season, which for a lot of UK riders is the goal. Dripping with style, he held his own in (and won) many competitions, but again, the drive wasn't competitve in itself. There was definitley progression, but not at the expense of style.

He worked in snowboard shops, for snowboard distributors, was at every contest, board test and general get together for ever and never lost the love of the shred. Living close to Hemel when it was converted from a dryslope to a fridge didn't help either, making that fix of snowboarding readily available, with a motley crew of friends, among them his long time best mate Joe Rackley.

Last year, bad news hit Duncan and his wife, they were both diagnosed with cancer and have been through the eye of a storm... Thankfully, both are clear for now, and his thoughts have turned back to snowboarding, and I for one, can't wait to take some laps with him, to try and get some tips on those frontside spins...

There aren't too many riders who have lived the life like Jonny Barr. Still frothing for snow up in Aviemore where he now calls home, from the dryslope at Llandudno via Chamonix and some of the biggest mountains in the world, Jonny has seen the sun set on more days riding than most, and can still rip.

He shares his love of the Scottish Highlands and splitboarding with his event 'The Upbattle' which is really an excuse for snowboarders to get together, talk aout snowboarding, go snowboarding and enjoy a pint or three back at base camp, and why the fuck not? In all seriousness, the Upbattle looks to get riders stoked on exploring the Highlands but with workshops on Avalanche awareness, route finding, how to choose the right kit, etc... so the people that find it can enjoy it safely and come home with a smile on their face.

Scott is one of the most stylish heavy hitters this country has produced, from being taken up to the highlands every weekend from a young age, to Whistlers superpark and mixing it on Red Bull projects with Travis Rice, let alone hitting rails in Trafalgar Square in London.

A deep bag of tricks and an innate abiluty to make them look effortless, it occured to me as he rode ast me at about 80kmh last week that I'd describe his style as efficient. A snowboarders snowboarder if you will.

Off the hill he is blessed with a great sense of humour and comedy timing, chiselled like Edinburgh granite and eyes as deep as Loch Ness, he is great company, both interested and interesting, which is a rare gift. he has long been friends with my brother Dave and our paths have only crossed occasionally, so I'm really stoked to have spent the last five days riding, laughing and hanging out with Scott. Crazy plans are forming for more of the same and I for one can't wait!

Some might call Christian larger than life, but he isn't. He is as large as his life and his life is large! Starting filming snowboarding way back in the day, to producing one of the first European snowboarding movies (With a killer soundtrack) moving into presenting and winning BAFTA's, team manager for Vans to his current incarnation as DJ BBQ, Christian is a tour de force.

Odd Man Out had a massive influence on UK snowboarding, at least two other guests have cited it as the reason why they started snowboarding, it showed UK riders mixing it with some of Europes and the worlds best, which in turn, opened doors for those riders.

Above all the accomplishments though, Christian is fun to hang out with, kinda like Tigger, he bounces around, has Duracell bunny type energy and has a lot of funny stories. Christian doesn't find life, life finds Christian.

I normally start this section off with, you may not have heard of such and such, but not this time. I"m pretty certain you will have heard of Jenny Jones, and for good reason.

Winning bronze at the Sochi Olympics is just part of her story, sadly, she wasn't the inspiration for the movie chalet girl and indeed, has never watched it, but she did start her career older than Mia Brookes is now, and went from seasonaire in Tignes to returning to win X Games gold there many years later (via two wins in the US)

Jenny's presence in the sport is cemented by not only picking up medals, but by the legacy of people that saw her on TV and decided to learn to snowboard that day, and the fact that snowboarding in the UK 'grew up' that day. Thats quite something...

This is a real dive into Jennys story, and a real pleasure, after being friends for years, to actually sit down and get to know her, I hope you enjoy this one. x

Its fair to say that Stu Brass has lived many lives in snowboarding, from grom riding with his brothers Si and Russ up at Rossendale, to working for the British Snowboarding Association, to running comps to organising events, most motably The Brits, the yearly get together for the UK snowboarding community.

In my mind, Stu has always been fairly business like in his snowboarding, but I guess it takes some drive to acheive what he has acheived, he helped athletes cross over into the mainstream, and certainly most snowboarders he helped earned way more out of the wider worlds interest into our sport/lifestyle than they would have if they didn't have Stu representing them.

But, like most of us, its done out of pure love for standing sideways and sliding down a mountain, which is something we can all agree is the most fantastic thing.

British snowboarding owes Stu a pint for keeping the community together, even when the chips were down, even hosting The Brits up in Cairngorm, which, must have been a gamble in these times. Fair play to you Stu and I'm gonna see you in Mayerhofen for this years!

Neil’s story is quite incredible and quite unlike anyone else I’ve interviewed and is completely inspirational. How small moments and kindness of strangers can turn your life into a completely new direction, both good and bad.

Luckily for us, the bad came before the good and the good came in the shape of The XScape in Milton Keynes offered Neil a new life that wasn’t obvious at first, but slowly revealed itself and led Neil to a new life.

He now uses his background in life and snowboarding to advocate for change in the industry, recently winning The Reason magazines 'Rider of the Year' and you won't find a single person with a bad word to say about Neil which is testament to the way he carries himself.

You probably have heard of Johno Verity, as a pro rider he was all over the UK snowboard magazines and movies, particularly the Lockdown Projects movies he helped to make. He wasn't afraid to take the piss out of himself, using down time to write and film skits which added another dimension to his parts and that has seen him move into writing, directing and running his own film production company, working with big brands and pushing his skills even further forward.

Johno also has a nice angle on life, he is funny and thoughtful, and good fun to hang out with, conversation topics range wildly but he always seems to find the interest in people, which is a rare talent.

You probably won't have heard of Maria, but I'm pretty certain you will have seen her work. Maria has been a stalwart of the Briish scene for years, from riding Hillingdon dryslope every weekend amongst what was a hardcore scene who took no prisoners, to competing, to showing up at the Brits. Maria wasn't in it for the competition, but for the community, not afraid to hurt herself, but when there wasn't many women snowboarding, and even less on dryslope, Maria really blazed a path for others to follow.

She also had a passion for FX in movies and simultaneously carved a career to the highest level working for Jim Hensons Creature Shop and more recently on movies like the Star Wars Sequals. A far cry from snowboarding, but I do believe that snowboarding and action sports prime a person to push themselves into unique careers, and Marias is certainly unique...

Finally! I hear you all cry... Its a Chrismtas miracle! Yep, the long awaited, often asked for episode with the legend that is Simon Smith is here!

Simons attitude and approach to snowboarding helped influence what British snowboarding has become, we all owe him a debt of gratitude, because without Simon and his peers, snowboarding could look like skiing, and we'd all be poorer for it.

His nickname 'bloody' was due to his go hard attitude, getting in the air, whether on a skateboard, bmx or snowboard with often little regard for how the landing would work out...

Out of everyone I"ve had on so far, Johns journey is probably the closest to mine. As a way to go snowboarding, starting a business to share the experience of being in the mountains, with a comfy bed and some good food, surrounded by like minded people, its not an easy life to choose, and I know from experience that it isn't for everyone, but there is something incredible about these places that pop up, run by snowboarders for snowboarders, stripping out the bullshit the middle class ski families want, and adding in things like being shown how to wax your board, or having someone with years of experience point you in the right direction on the mountain, are all things that you won't get from the identikit chalet holiday.

The Dragon Lodge is one of the last bastions of snowboard lodges in the Alps, as with everything, costs are rising and the lowly snowboarder is being pushed out, but I guarantee you, as a snowboarder, will come away from a stay there with more memories, smiles and laughs than anywhere else. Neil has carved himself quite a unique path, one that he certainly blazed for himself. No other UK snowboarder has earned the title of high mountain guide, a qualification that is as much about climbing as much as snowboarding, and to take clients into that environment and be responsable isn't something to be taken lightly, let alone the time and effort it takes to earn that title in the first place.

Thats on top of his status as British champion, a career racing and helping set up teaching qualifications, quite the CV.

Now in the envious position of living by the beach in SW France, surfning with the likes of Tom Burt (legend) looking after his body with yoga and being able to go snowboarding in the best places he chooses for him and his clinets, Neil has acheived what most of us would like to do, and fair play to him.

Delighted to be finding out more about what was an institution in the game, a brilliant shop, cultural hub in both skate and snow and place where people, including myself would pilgrimage, yes pilgrimage, to buy their kit and soak up some of SS20's, how can I put this, radness.

SS20 was a snow and skate shop in Oxford, and their clever use of graphics on their T Shirts made them somewhat legendary, see someone with a fish or a barcode t shirt and you know they know. That did, in fact, happen to me on my first season... I knew enough to know that it was going to be people that gave us jobs and keep us in Val D'Isere for the season, so imagine my delight, and I remember saying ths to the other three guys I had arrived in resort with, I saw a guy at the bar in an SS20 fish T Shirt. It was mid November so no punters in town yet and this meeting led eventually to jobs, season passes and many, many good times...

Mon was one of the founders along with Dave Furneau (episode coming at some point) and soon after legendary vert skater Sean Goff, and the place just had magic about it. If I'd have lived nearer I, for sure, would have worked there, or at least hung out there every weekend...

Someone you probably have never heard of this week, but as well as looking and recording some of the historical figures of our sport, I also thought it was relevant to talk to people who are getting people excited for snowboarding outside of the normal confines of what used to happen. It used to be shops and dry slopes that would be organising trips and bulding a scene, but with the majority of those gone, who is doing it? Well, people like Zoe, with a deep love of snowboarding and an audience on Instagram, she is getting groups of women together and out to the mountains.

As she explains, the main reason is to get herself a trip to the mountains, but she could just blag it for her and her family, but she has created a trip for women of all backgrounds to get together and share a love of the mountains, and that, in my mind, is a reason to get her on, because not everyone would do that and share it...

From uber grom out of the brand new SnowDome in Tamworth, to working seasons in Colorado, to shaping the British aestehtic of snowboarding, to helping showcase our little corner of the world to the masses via Olympic commentary, Tim truly has worked and blagged and worked some more to live a life in snowboarding. Almost always upbeat, enthusiastic and frothing for the shred, Tim seems to enjoy the spotlight being on him, but from knowing him for some years, he would be exactly the same in a dark room on his own.

Always finding fun and as still stoked on the shred as that grom hitting the kickers at Tamworth, his bright character hides how much work he puts into his professional career, he makes being in front of people, or commentating on the highest level events on one of the biggest broadcasters in the world, look and sound easy, but as with all things, the swan is paddling hard under the water to make them look so graceful and Tim works hard to make it look easy.

Hopefully this episode will shed a new light on someone many will only know from Ski Sunday or Olympic commentary, someone who is funny as fuck and is always fun to bask in the glow of. Ladies and Gentlemen... Tim Warwood.

Chris Moran is a hero of British Snowboarding, always seeing the cracks in doors and pushing them as wide open as possible, and for the beneft of snowboarding. From a young age, shredding with Ste Bailey on dryslope, to seasons in caravans in Chamonix (dear God) to the WhiteLines chalet in Meribel, Chris has always created fun and adventure and is happy to take along whoever is up for it.

I'm sure he won the Bristish Champs one year, but we didn't get to that, I also didnt give him any shit for skiing, which he sometimes does, and freely admits to, but he has earned the right to do whatever he wants, he has just spent six years renovating an old barn near Meribel, putting in plenty of graft and making what some might think crazy decisions, but which have led to a truly unique place he calls home.

An interesting person who always sees the world through a unique lens, this was a funny, lovely conversation with an old friend, I hope you enjoy it...x

Danny, for a long time, was far and away the most powerful stylish and progressive rider the UK had produced. He made his presence felt, not just in the UK scene, but internationally, with a heavy bag of tricks and a keen eye on what those tricks looked like.

From humble beginnings in Pontefract to a life travelling and snowboarding, filming wih an A list of snowboarders, living in the Alps, countless photos and video parts, to designing outerwear and making films, his career took him far and wide, with progression always on his mind.

After snowboarding, his desire for progression took him briefly into graphic design which morphed into an MA in Fine Art, at Chelsea. It woud seem his desire to do things to a high standard wasn't confined to snowboarding.

Its hard for me to sum up Dan, he has been a great friend to me over the years, I've had some of the best days on the mountain with him, as well as some of the best social times too. We've been to gigs, discussed art, even had kids at pretty much the same time, as he mentions in this interview, its hard to find good old friends and Dan is one of my best, old friends, a legend in snowboarding and I can't wait until we are both chatting shit on a chairlift and hitting some pow together in the future.

Well, we are nearly there... The last episode for ths winter is coming next week, but in the meantime (which means I haven't recorded it yet) here is a mix of songs from snowboard movies, put together in a fashion by me, which I hope will get you frothing for snowboarding, bring back some happy memories, or both...

As you all might know by now, my day job is in music, producing, mixing and DJing, and this project was born out of being booked to play an Absinthe movie premier in London, where I thought it might be more interesting to put together some of my favourite songs from snowboard movies, and run a competition to see who could name all the movies they are from. Thank U Snowboarding - S1 - Ep17 - Mark Munson

For those of you who don't know Mark Munson, and there are probably a lot of you, Mark is one of our cultures true individuals, almost aggresively so. Its fair to say that Mark didn't really want to be part of snowboarding originally. He wanted to acheive, because one of the things you'll learn, is that when Mark does something, he goes all in 100%.

Regardless of whether that is skating, snowboarding, his business or growing rhubarb (he grows some fucking banging rhubarb btw) Mark is all in. That attitude to life is something I gravitated too, after hanging out at one fo the board tests many years ago, we lived together in the legendary 35 Rue Desserteaux in Bourg Saint Maurice and have been on many more board tests and snowbaord related endeavours togther.

An aggressive pursuit of life led Mark not only to many places on a snowboard, such as being in charge of Duotone snowboards in the Uk, but also skate team manager for Airwalk and later, Duffs, starting a game changing Angling brand, making a book about skate stickers, really, Mark has kicked open doors of opportunity and made them his.

We start the podcast with me talking about a time I told Mark that I hate it when people leave kitchen cupboard doors open. Of course, Mark then made it a point to open cupboard doors as much as possible for the rest of the season. Knowing Mark, if he didn't count me as someone he liked and respected, he wouldn't have bothered, but, I took it as his way of showing his friendship that he would make the effort to do this, thats how I saw it anyway.

I hope you enjoy this episode, the time flew by as we were talking, which is always a good thing...

Thank U Snowboarding - S1 - Ep16 - Juliet Elliott

Snowboarder, guitarist, model, influencer, mother. It would be easy to not like someone like Juliet if you just looked at what she has done on paper, but that is a fraction of the story. Juliet has always been a bright eyed girl, stoked on life and what opportunities it has presented, her infectious smile and laugh about how absurd most things are has seen her through some pretty amazing situations without her turning into what those situations could easiy have done.

The story of how she ended up as probably the most reluctant cover model for Vogue is a case in point, most models would kill for that to happen, yet Juliet shrugs it off because she'd rather be snowboarding, seeing it more as an absurd thing to happen.

The same how she could have easily become a touring guitarist, but it wasn't really her, so she did it for a bit, then didn't do it anymore. Most guitar players would, again, would kill for that opportunity, but Juliet remained true to herself and knew it wasn't where she wanted to be.

It would seem she is now very much where she wants to be, her Instagram and life in bikes is her main gig, alongside being a mother and partner, but she has built a life and career doing something she loves, maybe something we'd all kill for right?

Thank U Snowboarding - S1 - Ep15 - Ian Felton

Ian Felton orchestrated a few things that have had a lasting impression on UK snowboard culture. From Kaos Mountain Wear, to Kaos The Movie, his work with the British Snowboard Association and the World Snowboard Federation, to running commentary for the BBC at the Olympics.

I think Ian realised that Doing It Yourself was the way it was going to have to go, he saw that the ski industry (certainly the UK ski industry) weren't that interested in snowboarding and so to create something, he'd DIY it.

Developing a UK brand at the time must have seemed like lunacy, but he had roots in skateboarding and saw the potential of this fledgling sport and put himself into it, but not to be in the spotlight, but to build a team and allow them to do their thing too. There was certainly a humour in it and a certain Britishness, and a strong DIY ethos.

Sadly KAOS didn't make it, although I'm holding out for a limited run of purple dressing gowns, as Ian said, it shone bright for a short time.

He returned to snowboarding this year with his family, and the light seems to have been reignited, and plans afoot for a gathering in the mountains in the future...

Thank U Snowboarding - S1 - Ep14 - Vicky and Nige Brookes

Vicky and Nige Brookes are lifers, simple as that. They have built their lives around a love of snowboarding, finding any which way to keep them doing what they love. They started off living in a van in Chamonix doing seasons way back when, and I can tell you, I lived in an Ambulance in Val D'Isere for a week in 94 and came close to dying, so its no mean feat they van lifed it, before there was such a thing as van life.

So, having a child that snowboards would seem like a natural extension of their love for the mountains, which they did. The fact that this child got really fucking good is a testament to their love of the sport and their enthusiasm for it. When you chat to Nige ad Vicky, it makes sense, and they have done everything they can to enable Mia to pursue her talent, again, back to the van life in Laax, living frugally to afford Mia the opportunity to ride everyday.

You can see that in her riding and the joy that it brings her parents, who are an absolute pleasure to hang out with and are in no way precious about their daughter and the lifestyle that now encompasses them, they seem to embtace it and enjoy the journey.

I saw Nige being interviewed at the X Games, and he isn't banging Mia's drum as much as championing snowboarding and womans snowboarding in particular, which is pretty cool, as he could be insular about what Mia could and does acheive, but they are in it for snowboarding, and that is rad.

Their own story is as interesting and I think its gonna get a whole lot more interesting as time goes on... I hope there will be a part 2 of this at some point, I'd love to know what Mia thinks about the stories of their parents snowboarding...

Matt Barr, quietly (mostly) helped shape what UK snowboard culture, and the wider worldwide culture, looked like over the last three decades.

Matt recognised his own talents early on, realising he wasn't going to be a pro snowboarder, set about making it his life in other ways. Learning a few tricks from the master of the blag, Chris Moran (he won't mind me saying that) Matt used snowboarding as a means to travel the world on someone elses budget, finding the interesting stories and bringing them back with him, sharing them in the pages of Whitelines and laterly, Transworld Snow.

You might think after all those adventures, you might have gotten your lot out of this great lifestyle, but Matt went to on pioneer action sports podcasts with Looking Sideways (https://wearelookingsideways.com/) and took that to the great and the good of snowboarding, then into the wider surf, skate and outdoors communities, finding the interesting stories and important issues.

Thank U Snowboarding S1 - Ep12 - Oggy

When I first thought of the podcast, Oggys story is one I wanted to tell. This guy hasn't lived the life per se, but he has lived, and continues to live, his life in snowboarding. As a shop owner, Oggy made sure he treated his customers in a way that helped them become lifelong snowboarders, making sure they had the right kit, knew what to expect, what to take, what NOT to take, and all the good shit you'd know if you have some experience.

Everyone I've ever met who shopped with Oggy were slightly in awe of this legend of a man, and I"ve never heard a single bad word about him. My own direct experience is one of positivity, interest, and learning. Whilst working for Airwalk he would always spend the time learning about the kit, so he understood what he was selling, and from the days with the chalet, he always recommended us to his customers, and his customers became our clients (and staff in one example)

Selling snowboard kit isn't an easy gig, esepcially as a small independant and indeed we have lost most of our shops, for many reasons, but the sad factor is, they were the unsung heroes, quietly getting people stoked on snowboarding, creating scenes, riding dryslope and making it their lives, miles from the snow.

These are the heroes IMHO...

Thank U Snowboarding - S1 - E11 - Tom Willmott

Its quite funny how UK snowboarders have spread themselves around the globe, I mean, its not funny per se, but UK snowboarding, for a small country, has a bigger influence over the world of snowboarding than you might think. I was chatting with Matt Barr this moring and both he, and Ed Leigh are on Travis Rices Natural Selection selection committe, which is quite mad, then you have Tom Willmott who is the coach of the New Zealand Ski and Snowboard teams.

From a humble beginning up on Telford Dryslope, which. by the way, produced its fair share of talented shredders, to travelling the world coaching some of the worlds best athletes, Toms journey is really one of a true love f snowboarding and the many facets of it. He takes time off from coaching to guide up in Alaska, indeed, as we talk about, would bail on a night of drinking to go hike a summit to rude down at sunrise. At the time, I couldn't get with that, but now I understand, Tom has been chasing as many experiences on a board as possible, and he has crafted a life doing so.

Its been nearly 20 years (and btw, how the fuck does time move so quickly?) since I last got to hang out with Tom, but we managed a few laps and laughs together in Laax, nicely followed by a couple of beers outside the Indy Bar, which, really sums up snowboarding for me, good mates, some fun runs, a few beers... Good times.

I've been waiting to do this one.... Rob invited me over to Bourg St Maurice to record this episode, but I couldn't make it work. I told him I was gonna be in Laax and he messaged me to say he'd drive over, sleep in his car, we'd go riding, do the podcast, have some beers, he'd sleep in his car then drive another 9 hours back to Bourg, I mean, what a legend, as well as this, our lives through starting businesses at the same time, and the journeys we both went on and supporting each other through, mean Robs friendship is something I hold dearly in my life... Through his company The Coolbus thecoolbus.co.uk offering transfers into the Alps, he has given employment and seasons to so many people, the amount of good snowboarding times Rob has been the catalyst for is incredible, and thats why I wanted to get him on the podcast...I hope you enjoy this one, Rob is an incredible guy and somehow commands an amazing level of loyalty among his staff and friends, one of the only people on the planet whom I doubt I would find someone to say a bad word about...

Thank U Snowboarding - S1 - Ep8 - Tom Kingsnorth

Seeing a grom grow into a really great adult sums it up for me with Tom. Our paths first crossed at a dryslope in SE London way back in the 90's when Tom was a mere 11 years old, but already quite a character. We, of course, treated him like a grom, gave him plenty of shit, but also encouraged him, always chatting to his family and I think from there, his parents could see a good community of people their son could be part of.

Fast forward many years and Tom is now the owner of Transform gloves, a great brand doing cool things in its own way, in its own time. Its got style and a sensability that isn't chasing fashion or hype, just going about business making great products for snowboarders, by snowboarders. He still has a SE London sensability but is more worldly than that, I'd like to think he would say the same thing about me, not interested in entertaining the bullshit, but getting on by doing...

I've been lucky to ride all over with him, I've taken him to hospital a couple of times, we have had a fair few adventures and drunken escapades and so far, we've made it through...

Thank U Snowboarding - S1 - Ep6 - Eddie Spearing

No-one has influenced the UK scene, and driven it in its current direction than Eddie Spearing. OK, that might be a bit of hyperbole there, but certainly Eddie's impact on the UK scene is notable in many ways.

From starting the first snowboard magazine (Snowboard UK) to presiding over the British Snowboard Association. to being at nearly every competetion, Eddie was everywhere and gave everything to snowboarding, and certainly done so in the face of no money, no road map, loads of booze and good times, its staggering he is still with us!

I think as a snowboarder in the UK, we all owe Eddie a salute (and/or a pint) for the work he put in, to keep snowboarding exactly what it is and should be, anti establishment, anti corporate, a means of self expression and a reason to have a good time with your friends. Personally I'd have liked Mia Brookes to give Claire Balding the middle finger at last weeks Sports Personality of the Year awards, maybe when she wins the whole fucking thing, and I hope I'm sitting with Eddie when that happens... Thanks Ed, you are a bone fide legend. x

Fairy unknown in the history of UK snowboarding, a name lost to time. Maybe due to the fact that he sort of existed outside the UK scene to an extent. From skating and building his first snowboards, to decamping to the Alps to persue this 'sport', from meals with Jake Burton to hanging out with Shawn Farmer et al at the King of the Hill in Alaska, Graeme has had a pretty wild ride and is still frothing for the shred.

Graeme heard about the podcast and got in touch to see if I'd like to chat with him, he sent me some career 'highlights' and I was blown away, so of course we needed him on! Thank U Snowboarding - S1 - Ep4 - Becci Malthouse

I've not really ever chatted that much with Becci before, a few short conversations here and there at various events, but she feels like someone I should have been great friends with and this was as easy and relaxed a conversation as I think I've ever had.

Becci grew up skiing, coincidentally, at a dry slope I later worked in the snowboard shop at (maybe thats the connection) and became very good at snowboarding, very quickly, started winning national comps, along with her then partner, Neil Mcnab. Between them they had the UK competition on lock and they we offered lots of opportunities.

After competitive life started to wane and a new charge of younger riders came to the fore, Becci moved to Morzine in France and founded BASS https://www.britishskischool.com/bassresorts/morzine and hung up her snowboard boots, as she puts it, because she had acheived everything she had wanted to do on a board.

I'm happy to report Becci has refound her love of snowboarding, hooking up with her old sponsor Nitro https://nitrosnowboards.com/en and looking forward to shredding again this winter...

This weeks episode is with one of the pioneers of snowbooarding in the UK, and its not a term I use lightly... Stuart found snowboarding through skateboarding, at a time when snowboarding wasn't even really a thing in this country. Calling up Burton Snowboards in America (I wonder who he got through to) to find out where he could get his hands on a board, to setting up fanzines to help promote the sport, Stuarts influence has a longer tail than I realised.

I really enjoyed this chat, Stuart is great company, softly spoken and thoughtful, returning to riding with his son after a whopping 30 years break! I hope you enjoy this one...

Ed Leigh is in snowboarding for life, I'm not entirely sure there is anyone who can speak so eloquently about the experience of snowboarding and why you should do it, as well as having a nearly bottomless realm of stories from his time in the mountains. He loves life and finds it interesting and as such, life finds him the craziest opportunities for him to eperience and share.

Time spent with Ed is always a pleasure and he really understood what we are trying to acheive with this podcast, which is to remind the listener how much fun and how good for your soul snowboarding is, above most other past times, remember some good times and look forward to more.

This was Terje (GOAT) at the height of his power, slaying competitions, hammering the backcountry, in short telling the world why he is the man... this video helped incite a riot at Sheffield Ski Village, but more about that as this series pans out....
