Liverpool took it all the way to the wire on the final day but it was Manchester City’s remarkable 3-2 comeback over Aston Villa that saw them crowned champions. On this week’s show Luke and James discuss how the final day played out, why we can be proud of our team and what is yet to come as the season concludes with one final, huge game.

We also took the time to praise Mo Salah for his Golden Boot win and Alisson’s Golden Glove achievement. This gave us the chance to ask whether the Brazillian goalkeeper has been Liverpool’s best player this campaign.

With Divock Origi leaving at the end of the season, he received an Anfield send-off and we chatted about his legacy. 

The second part of the show was dedicated to the Champions League final. We previewed the weekend clash with Real Madrid, focusing on our midfield woes with potentially Fabinho and now Thiago missing from the clash in Paris.

Following a 2-1 win over Southampton to keep right on Man City’s coattails, the chaps discussed the benefit of Liverpool’s squad depth this season following a much-changed 11 on the south coast. 

As many players seized their opportunity we discussed the impact of Bobby Firmino, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott, as well as spent some time praising Taki Minamino’s fine goalscoring record this campaign.

This victory over United completes the double over our arch-rivals with an aggregate score of 9-0! On this week’s podcast, Luke and James discuss the match, as well as the reasons why the gap between the two clubs is at the biggest level in living memory.

Not only that, but the lads have also returned, refreshed and rejuvenated for what is sure to be a nervy run-in.

But, April has started with a bang thanks to wins over Watford and Benfica, and it’s the away clash in Lisbon which was focused on this week. Luis Diaz’s sparkling form, Naby Keita’s wonderful performance and the return of Trent Alexander-Arnold topped Luke and James’ talking points this week, as we marvelled at how the Reds could be on the verge of a really special end to the season. 

It wasn’t all positive though, as the guys mused over Salah’s uncharacteristically goal-shy form, as we wondered whether his disappointments with Egypt along with the ongoing contract saga may have impacted his ability on the pitch in recent weeks. 

And of course, with a mammoth clash with Manchester City at the Etihad on the horizon, we talked team selection and tactics ahead of the biggest game of our season to date.

Following a 2-0 win against Brighton Luke and James are here to discuss the Reds’ title charge in what has been a massive week for the club. As well as this victory Liverpool are also set to play Arsenal tonight and then Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Sunday as the fight for the quadruple remains.

But it’s Brighton where we start and we cast our eyes over Luis Diaz’s impact and that awful incident with Brighton keeper Roberto Sanchez.

It’s not all been positive though. This week we learned that Mo Salah had rejected Liverpool’s opening contract offer and reports suggest he may even be open to leaving for another PL club. We offer our views on whether this is just your normal agent posturing or if we actually should be worried. Staying on this topic we also question the timing of the news and why Salah and his entourage should be more respectful towards the club.

Luke and James hit record the night after the Reds’ 1-0 loss to Inter Milan in the Champions League that saw them progress 2-1 on aggregate to the quarter-finals of the competition. While they may have lost the match, the performance wasn’t so bad with Liverpool by far the dominant side over the two legs.

With this in mind, the lads discuss the performance, and address a few niggly doubts that seem to have crept in among the fanbase in recent weeks. Much of this is down to the performance of the forward line with not many goals being scored. Inexplicably some of this criticism has been levelled at Mo Salah and we discuss whether he needs a rest or whether he should stay in the team due to him being the club’s (and league’s) best forward.

We also chatted about the magnificent return of Thiago and praised Trent Alexander-Arnold for some extremely accomplished defensive displays.

Well, despite all the noise about how Liverpool would struggle during the AFCON period, the Reds have done alright haven’t they?

It was a largely changed team in the FA Cup, and with Kaide Gordon becoming the youngest ever FA Cup goalscorer in the club’s history, we discussed how he, and the other youngsters, impressed. Plus, with AFCON now here and our forward options far more limited, we discussed the importance of Bobby Firmino over the next few weeks and how it may help that he got back amongst the goals in this game.

On this week’s show Luke, James and Max look back on the 1-0 win over Wolves, and chat about the enigma that is Divock Origi. The Belgian has given us some iconic moments in the Klopp era, and who’s to say how big his winner against Wolves will be come the end of the season.

The Spanish champions had given Liverpool a great match, but could not live with the Reds at Anfield. Despite picking an attacking lineup, the Spanish Champions were unable to cause much of a threat to the Liverpool backline.

The win sees Liverpool top their Champions League group with two games to spare. Will the Reds use this time as a chance to rest players, or will Jurgen Klopp try to go for six wins out of six?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain followed up some promising cameos with an excellent display as he drove at the Atletico Madrid backline from midfield. Fabinho also returned, showing why he's lovingly returned to as 'the Dyson'.

Sadio Mane also looked back to his best, after a torrid 20/21 season, he terrified the Atletico Madrid defence with his pace and positional intelligence.

Finally, West Ham are coming up, and the Reds need to keep the winning streak going! Will the Reds be able to take the three points against the high-flying Hammers?

A 5 (FIVE) - 0 victory away at Manchester United for the Reds at Old Trafford, the club’s best-ever performance in the old enemy’s backyard. 

Where do we start?

Well, after all the inevitable gloating Luke, James and Max actually got down to some analysis (of sorts).

We discussed whether this game will go down in history as Liverpool’s best-ever Premier League result, waxed lyrical about Naby Keita’s exceptional performance and, of course, talked about Mo Salah’s hatrick. At this point, we’re seriously questioning if he’s human.

The guys also mentioned how impressed we were with Ibou Konate’s dominance at the back. After only playing one Premier League game so far it was a bit of a concern before kick-off but he was sensational.

Plus, we all offered up our favourite moment of the game from Henderson’s delicious assist for the fifth, to the hilarious moment when Ronaldo’s consolation was ruled out by VAR.

And, after all that, we even found time to preview the game against Brighton on Saturday.

There was much praise for a possible breakthrough performance of Curtis Jones and, of course, the inevitable James Milner. Plus we take a minute to reflect on Jordan Henderson’s Liverpool journey as he makes his 400th appearance for the club. That victory made it two out of two in the Champions League and we looked ahead to the trip to Atletico Madrid later this month, and the boost Liverpool now have after our 100% start to the tournament.  

A fine goalscoring performance felt like a fine way to honour the late, great Roger Hunt and we take a minute to acknowledge his sad passing this week.

Looking ahead to the Manchester City game, we debate whether the Citizens remain the favourites for the league title and team selection. We discuss whether Curtis Jones has made himself undroppable, Milner potentially facing up against Jack Grealish and what the forward line will look like.

Casting our eyes over the last few matches we discuss the squad depth and if it’s actually quite good, as well as giving praise to the constant brilliance of Mo Salah and perhaps slightly under the radar Alisson Becker.

Unfortunately, despite a great 3-0 win over Leeds at Elland Road, the only place to start was the horrific injury to young Harvey Elliott. We chatted about his great start to the season, how he already looked like a first-team star and how losing him will be a blow to the Reds.

In happier news, Mo Salah scored his 100th PL goal this weekend. Only four players in history got to the milestone faster and we discussed his ongoing contract situation at the club. As well as this, we mused where he fits in the debate regarding Liverpool’s greatest Premier League forward.

Our attention also turned to the Champions League opener against Italian giants AC Milan - the first time the two teams had met since 2007. In such a tough group we talked about the importance of getting an opening day win, and whether it would be a good time to rotate the centre backs in order to give the excellent Joel Matip a rest.

Now, the football can begin. 

It’s been a difficult window for Liverpool fans, with very little action beyond Ibrahima Konate in terms of incomings. Luke, Max and James rejoiced at the fact we can stop talking about it, while also discussing whether FSG has given Klopp all the tools to impact the title race this season.

We also discussed Jordan Henderson and Nat Phillips’ new contracts, and whether the timing of both announcements were just thinly veiled attempts at PR from the owners. 

The off the field chat continued with news of Michael Edwards’ potential departure, and we wondered if it’ll have as big an impact on the club as some have made out.

In terms of actual football, we also reviewed last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, whether it was two points dropped given the extra man and whether Klopp’s use of substitutes demonstrates that he doesn’t trust the whole squad.

Two wins out of two and things have been rosy for the Reds at the start of this year’s Premier League season.

And the good news continued at the start of this week’s podcast as Luke, James and Max discussed the announcement of Andy Robertson’s new contract. We also bid a fond farewell to Xherdan Shaqiri who has departed for Lyon.

There were plenty of talking points from the Reds’ 2-0 win over Burnley at the weekend, and we chatted about the exciting performance of Harvey Elliott, the benefits of having a settled centre back partnership and Jurgen Klopp’s comments on Burnley’s physical style of play.

It’s a very different test for Liverpool this weekend as Chelsea head to Anfield. A rampant Lukaku is casting an ominous shadow amongst Liverpool fans and we previewed the battle between him and Virgil Van Dijk. Plus we looked at other key battles and the importance of Fabinho in this fixture.

We also debated whether it was time for Roberto Firmino to return to the starting 11 in order to combat Chelsea’s attacking threat.

Luke, James and Max discuss the performance in detail. In particular, they looked at the performance of stand-in left-back Kostas Tsimikas, a makeshift midfield and how Virgil Van Dijk’s influence impacts the club’s attacking side of the game as well as at the back.

Away from matters on the pitch we also reacted to the reports that captain Jordan Henderson looks set to sign a new contract, and whether Xherdan Shaqiri’s imminent departure could mean a new face is on its way.

There was also time to preview this weekend’s clash against Burnley, the first game in front of a full capacity Anfield since March 2020. We wondered whether we will see Fabinho, Henderson or Thiago feature against the Clarets and discussed why it could be the perfect game for Konate to make his full debut for Liverpool.

Oh, and we even had time to talk about Jurgen Klopp and his lack of glasses in recent weeks (nope, we’re not a fan either).

In a slightly different show to usual, the guys turned their attention to the return of the Premier League this weekend focusing not just on the Reds but the entire Premier League.

However, we of course started with our beloved Liverpool discussing the opening match against Norwich and whether the current squad is good enough to challenge for the title.

We also looked at the other runners and riders in the title race wondering if anyone can stop Man City making it a fourth title in five years, how Lukaku’s imminent arrival transforms Chelsea into title challengers and if a combination of an unbalanced midfield and lack of tactical nous from the manager means Manchester United may fall short.

Not only did we focus on the top, but we also looked at the bottom of the table and debated the fortunes of the three promoted teams Norwich, Watford and Brentford. Plus we mentioned who we think could cause a stir away from the big teams and, of course, gave our all-important predictions for the season ahead.

Before we got on to the inevitable topic of transfers, the guys discussed the fantastic news that Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and (breaking live on air) Alisson. The positivity continued as we turned our attention to the wholesome scenes we saw against Hertha Berlin, as Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez made their return to the pitch. With Virgil in particular back on the pitch, we discussed just how significant this return could be to the club’s title chances.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a pre-season show without the talk of transfers. With Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City making significant steps in the market, we wondered whether the club will do any business at all, and how worried we should be about our rival’s developments. 

It’s no secret that Liverpool need to sell to buy and we wonder just how difficult that may be in the case of Divock Origi. 

Looking ahead to the actual football, the guys also debated the role of Firmino this season and cast our eyes over VAR changes that come into force for 2021/22.

Despite the lack of action, there’s plenty to discuss and the guys begin by looking at Gini Wijnaldum’s comments regarding social media abuse from Liverpool fans. From here we move onto the worrying news about the skipper, Jordan Henderson’s, contract situation and ponder whether he really could follow Wijnaldum out of the club.

In more positive news we also focus on the bright start Ibrahima Konate has made to life at Liverpool, and whether he is likely to start the season alongside Joel Matip after Van Dijk and Gomez’s respective injuries. 

Of course, we also debate transfers both in and out. Transfer gossip is always the favourite pastime of football fans in the absence of any action, and we’re no different. We chat about the difficulties in shifting some of the club’s fringe players, as well as whether the club’s currently full non-homegrown quota could prove to be a stumbling block in any potential moves.

We also got suitably excited about the emergence of Harvey Elliot, and predictably pessimistic regarding the likelihood of Naby Keita featuring for the Reds. Listen now!
