I also think Keionte Scott rules, and Darrell Jackson, Jr. rocks, and Jayshawn Barham is awesome, and Brenen Thompson is cool, and Bishop Fitzgerald could be great, and Josh Moten could be sick, and Dominic Zvada deserves to be drafted not just signed as a UDFA.

Mock Drafting in the Jim Leonhard Era

With the announcement on January 31, 2026 that Jim Leonhard would be assuming the role of Defensive Coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, a new suite of archetypes has become available to Brandon Beane and the front office who select players in the NFL Draft. That's freakin' exciting! Prospects like R Mason Thomas, Cashius Howell, and Romello Height are now - theoretically, anyhow - on the menu, or at least, not intrinsically prohibited from appearing on the menu thanks to the 3-4-ish defensive scheme that Leonhard runs. Heck, big papas like Kaydan McDonald, who didn't fit McDermott's one-gap, penetrating style of IDL may profile as potential fits in the new system. That's doubly exciting!

In this mock draft I select R Mason Thomas (EDGE, Oklahoma) in R1, followed by Darrell Jackson, Jr. (DT, Florida State), Malachi Fields (WR, Notre Dame), Aiden Fisher (LB, Indiana), Jadon Canady (NCB, Oregon), Mason Reiger (EDGE, Wisconsin), Eli Heidenreich (FB, Navy).

Dads are models of consistency. Right now, the Bills are world-beaters one week and bottom-feeders - if even... lower than scum? - the next. That's not dad-like consistency. And the only - yes, only - path towards team-wide consistency is on a ship steered by #17, Josh Allen: SuperDad. Buffalo's quarter-of-a-billion superstar QB is in year eight at the helm, and his 36-year-old OC, Joe Brady, has not proven capable of synchronizing the four chambers of the offense's heart: The run, the pass, the OL, and the play-calling. Josh has a chance to write a new opus over the course of the next 8-12 games. It won't be easy, but it is simple: Be a good dad.

My Top-10 Most Important Buffalo Bills for 2025-26: Part VI

#10 Keon Coleman 🦬 In each of Drake London's three seasons, he has been moved around the formation with increasing frequency, culminating in a 2024-25 season during which he only played 60% of passing snaps from wide alignments, and finishing with the 4th most receiving yards in the NFL. I submit that Keon Coleman ought to be similarly distributed among the pre-snap pass-catching positions (X, Y, Z, F) to make the most optimal use of his length and strength. If Brady dials things up right, Josh can just sit back and sling the ball around the field to any of the now many weapons he has at his disposal. Defenses should be back on their heels in 2025-26, and if they can no longer sleep on Keon, he'll have earned his nomination as my 10th most important Buffalo Bill for this year.

#9 Ed Oliver 🦬 In 2023, the year after signing the $68mm 4-year contract extension that made him the 13th-highest paid DT in the league, Ed Oliver had a career year. In this episode I'll tell ya all the reasons why Ed could easily have been considered a top-5 (or, really, top-4) interior pass rusher in 2023. Unfortunately for Bills fans - and for Ed Oliver, and by proxy Brandon Beane and Bobby Babich - Ed Oliver's production saw a significant statistical drop-off in 2024. So, while experts like Joe Marino and Kyle Crabbs were on the verge of labeling Oliver a "Roster Cornerstone," heading into this season, Marino and Crabbs are hesitant to call him anything better than a "Sufficient Starter." So... what the heck?!

#8 Landon Jackson 🦬 A river runs through the gulf between the positive feelings that many in Bills Mafia share about our Mike Linebacker, Terrel Bernard, feelings that evidently also permeate throughout One Bills Drive from whence a four-year contract extension worth up to $42mm was drawn up this offseason, an extension that made Bernard the 12th-highest paid LB in the NFL, and what PFF thinks of Bernard. 48.2. That's Bernard's 2024 overall defense grade from PFF. But I love the guy and I'll tell ya why! I also project a decent likelihood for a high volume of snaps for rookie Landon Jackson early in the season, not only as a consequence of Michael Hoecht's six game suspension, but as a result of my hottest offseason take, which is that AJ Epenesa is bound to get traded.

Of course, since I've said it out loud, it won't happen, but I'm standing by it nonetheless. Go Bills.

The new-look Jets, with Aaron Glenn at the helm as the HC, Tanner Engstrand (who followed Glenn from Detroit to East Rutherford) as the OC, and Steve Wilks as their DC, will trot out an offense with Justin Fields as their QB, and neither CJ Mosley nor DJ Reed on their defense to meet our belovéd Buffalo Bills in Week 2. And Alex Cullen joins me in agreeing that one team should be heading back to Buffalo 2-0 while the other limps back to Embassy Suites Newark Airport 0-2. Alex doesn't think the Jets' secondary can hang with our high-floor - and possibly high ceiling?! - collection of pass catchers, from Keon Coleman and Dalton Kincaid, right on through Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, Josh Palmer, Elijah Moore, Cook, Davis and Johnson, and even, yes, Dawson Knox.

Beane Sounds Off

Hot on the heels of a 2025 NFL Draft which saw Brandon Beane wait until the 7th round to select a wide receiver, Maryland's Kaden Prather, the Buffalo GM held little back in criticizing WGR 550 hosts Jeremy White and Joe BiBiase for their examination of his roster-building approach, an examination Beane deemed "bitching." For my money, I think so much of the WR conversation misses the more significant point, which is that Josh Allen has, indeed, been surrounded by weapons. Those weapons just tend to be beefcakes on the line rather than burners off it.

5 Unsexy Things I Wanna See in 2025-26

Fresh off the NFL Draft, I can't help but look forward to five storylines that might be kinda unsexy but nevertheless, IMO, are mission critical to the Bills having another great season - and maybe even one that surpasses their terrific 2024-25 campaign. If Matt Milano stays healthy and makes splash plays like he did in 2022; if our two young coordinators, Joe Brady and Bobby Babich, can expand their repertoire as play-callers and refine their abilities as unit leaders; if Josh can, again, produce well while being efficient with and protective of the ball; if Josh can hit Dalton when he's open (a reality of a 2024-25 deficiency that most of Bills Mafia isn't ready to admit existed) and if Cole Bishop can play the way a 2nd-round pick ought to play in his 2nd season; and if Joey Bosa can have his snaps limited by the rotation of Landon Jackson, Javon Solomon and, yes, Deone Walker, and so have legs healthy and fresh enough to make the big play when we need the big play... we could be in for one helluva 2025-26 season with our beloved Buffalo Bills.

Kaiir Elam was not the wrong draft pick. I repeat, Kaiir Elam was not the wrong draft pick. Kaiir Elam being a bad draft pick is not the story of the 2022 draft. You've got it all wrong, you've all got it wrong. The real story of the 2022 draft tells of a General Manager in Brandon Beane who had a hole at cornerback that needed filling and he filled it. That's the story. And the moral of the story is that If you have a need at a position heading into a draft, you are best served, most likely to exit that draft having filled the hole, by taking out insurance, that is, by double dipping.

How I Fell in Like with the Atom Bomb

James Pearce Jr., Nic Scourton, and Landon Jackson have varying likelihoods of becoming Buffalo Bills come April 24 and 25 (probably not April 26). I don't particularly want to see any of them get drafted by my favorite team (that's the Bills, of course, hence the name and subject matter of the podcast - HELLO!) but, as I've spoken about before - and will again, and again - I want to prepare myself to be surprised instead of being disappointed once Beane starts making trades and picks. There are those dear friends of mine in Bills Mafia who mistakenly think that WR is a need in this 2025 NFL Draft. Oh, dear friends, how canst thou stomach being so thusly misguided? In an AFC East where the Jets are coming off perhaps their most hilariously horrible season in a long, long series of hilariously horrible season, and hoping that a rookie HC can turn the ship towards land; and where the McDaniel shtick has got to be getting old in Miami; and where the Patriots actually kind might be halfway decent, can Buffalo run the table and rack up six division wins? With the darn Eagles and feggin' Chiefs coming to the Ralph, can Josh n Co close out the old stadium sans home field blemish? If McDermott has to plan a trip to Dublin to face DK Metcalf and the Steelers, can he receive better than an F- grade? In short, any shot the Bills go 17 and- SHUT YO MOUTH!

Could Tet McMillan Slip to Buffalo at 30?

Tet McMillan didn't participate in the combine. And while Matthew Golden was throwing down a 4.39, McMillian was out of sight (and out of mind?). Once the previously-bona fide second receiver off the board did finally perform some tests, in a private workout on March 17, he was clocked at some time between a 4.46 and 4.5-something. A perfectly fine time, whatever it might have been, but one that could see him jumped by Golden in R1, and therefore, among the many previous (and future) victims of draft slippage. Once Tet slips to the Bills at 30, how ought Brandon Beane's draft strategy be to best complement Josh Allen's newest weapon?

Jahdae Barron Falls to the Bills at Pick 30

The last time the Bills took a corner in the first round it didn't go so well, but the time before that it went really well, so let's hope that taking a corner in the first round this year goes really well, too. Jahdae Barron won The Jim Thorpe Award, which recognized him as the nation's best defensive back. And so we marry one helluva boundary corner duo by adding J.T. Tuimoloau to complement our replenished secondary with a best-in-class run stuffing duo on the edges, and two horses on the interior of the line in Jordan Phillips (not that Jordan Phillips) and C.J. West. But, guess what! That's... not... all!

The Bills have 1,416 points worth of Draft capital this year. That’s roughly equivalent to owning the 25th and 26th picks. Ergo, maneuvering so as to move up from 30 and - AND! - trade Day 2 and 3 picks to get a second first round pick, isn’t out of the realm of mathematical possibility. As long of a shot as this mock draft represents, isn't it fun to imagine the next four or five iterations of the Buffalo Bills including Tet McMillan, Kenneth Grant, Nohl Williams, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, and R.J. Mickens?

In this mock draft, we had the play-making, game-breaking safety from Georgia, Malaki Starks, fall to us at 30. If this happens in real life someone better tie bungee cords to McDermott's ankles because he's fixing to be over the moon. From there we fix address the d-line and take an unexpected shot on a home-run hitter on the other side of the ball. Go Bills.
