Session 13 : March 27th

It’s March 2026, and the air at The Biz & Shizzle is thick with the scent of daffodils!

Chris and Matty settled into the snug on Friday, March 27th, just as British Summer Time loomed. Chris arrived sporting a suspicious pink glow—allegedly from a 117K bike ride.

Chris has been binging Oscar winners like Hamnet and the Norwegian masterpiece Sentimental Value. He claims he can "get by" with Norwegian but mostly had to rely on the subs.

Matty rewatched The Fall Guy (2024) and is currently deep into a Peaky Blinders marathon. He’s averaging two episodes a night, mostly to spot all the Liverpool filming locations.

The 27 Threes: Matty assembled a "Birthday Band" that would either be a Grammy-winning powerhouse or a total sonic nightmare. It features Mariah Carey, Fergie, and Jesse J on vocals, backed by the keyboardist from Genesis and a Japanese guitar hero.

In Memoriam: The pub raised a glass to Ian Dury and Dudley Moore, the "sex thimble" who went out hearing the music all around him.

Hip-Hop & Hams: The show got a much-needed injection of hip-hop history with the anniversary of Run DMC’s debut and Tupac Shakur’s Me Against the World—the first album to debut at number one while the artist was in the clink.

The Fancy Fact

In a crossover nobody asked for, it turns out Quentin Tarantino and Fergie were both in the film Planet Terror. Tarantino, playing a zombie, reportedly bit Fergie during a scene, proving that he really does get his teeth into a role—literally.

The boys will be back on April 24th for Session 14, feeling a little bit older!

Brace yourselves....It's our 1st Birthday Podcast.

And we barely mention it.

Session 11 : January 30th

Happy New Year from The Biz & Shizzle! It's January, and the dust (and ham glaze) has finally settled.

The tinsel is looking a bit tattered and the pub smells faintly of regret and disinfectant, but we are officially back open for business.

First and foremost, Harry Piles is back behind the bar after his "invasive procedure" left the pub shuttered for a fortnight, but he’s finally back in his stride. He’s still moving a bit like a man walking through golden syrup, but he’s serving pints again, which is all that matters.

The village is still reeling from Ham-Gate. It turns out the rumours of ticket tampering were just the tip of the iceberg. Brenda from the butchers has been officially banned from the raffle for three years after it was revealed she’d used an elaborate false thumb to ensure her own ticket stayed at the top of the bucket. The prize ham has been consumed, but the bitterness remains.

We're now entering the 78th week of January and there's plenty to discuss:

There's a final Beatles live show, a Bloody Sunday protest song, the death of a formidable woman and the announcement of 'The Jan 30's' the super band you never knew you wanted.

Matt recommends The Bone Temple while Chris celebrates his Masters results as well as performing a decidedly dodgy Buffalo Bill imppression.

Session : December 26th

It is session 10 and the boys are celebrating a lovely Boxing Day bevy at the pub. Despite the festive atmosphere, landlord Harry Piles is his usual grumpy self, though he’s busy prepping for the arrival of "Spanks Sinatra" for the evening's sold-out entertainment.

This episode is packed with "recos" and life updates, including Matt’s transition back to a two-dog household and Chris finally finishing his Master's degree (which features a shoutout to the podcast in his academic paper). The team dives deep into the Star Wars universe with a glowing review of Andor, compare the gritty realism of The Wire to Game of Thrones, and discuss the immersive—and occasionally cringey—method acting of Jared Leto and Jim Carrey.

History and trivia take centre stage as they explore the origins of the "Day of Goodwill" in South Africa and the pagan "Wren Day" traditions. In the world of inventions, we learn that the coffee percolator, the pinball machine, and the handheld cell phone all share roots with this time of year.

Musically, the Spice Girls and The Beatles battle for Christmas number-one supremacy, while the film world celebrates the release of classics like The Exorcist.

The Bullsh1t

"The Bullsh1t" was the pilot episode of what would eventually become The Biz and Shizzle podcast.

Chris & Matty are releasing this pilot because they have taken a temporary break from their current show. Chris being about to submit his master’s dissertation and Matty's busy schedule are taking priority. This pilot, originally recorded on November 15, 2024 was "two men in search of a podcast concept".

Find out why we eventually decided to just head down to the flipping pub.

Session 9 : October 31st

It’s session 9 already and in case you were wondering it’s not a “Spooktacular” special. Even though it is Halloween there is plenty of non-related business to get through.

A slew of birthdays fall on this day, with those celebrating easily able to to form one of the greatest and weirdest super bands of all time.

The Battle of Britain came to a close on this day…spoiler alert…we won and after at least 150 times of watching High Fidelity, Chris still can’t remember the name of Jack Black’s character.

Turns out The Cure were just as forward thinking and brilliant in 1997 as they always have been and Lauryn Hill has gotten herself in a bit of hot water, not for saying random stuff on stage or turning up four hours late again, but for not telling her former band mate something quite important.

Fair enough there is a lot of spooky going on that coincide with October 31st, but it’s not our fault.

Chris and Matty are back for their eighth session of "The Biz and Shizzle" at their local pub1. They kick off with a chat about board games after Matty discovers the Monopoly card game2.

The hosts share life updates: Matty's three-dog household is complete with the arrival of Maggie, a black lab cross who is massive, super strong, and "big bringing big labrador energy"3. Chris has started the last term of his Master's degree, focusing on podcasting4.

The duo then consults Harry for the date: September 26th.

In this first session at The Biz & Shizzle - Matt and Chris grab a pint and tackle the historical goings on of February 28th.

The 51st day of the year has much to give despite being the beginnings of a political party who is not really up there in our estimations right now (or were they ever?).

But in music there are lots of milestones of note on this the final day of the shortest month of the year...but we don't want to give away too much because we'd rather you take part in the quiz and find out for yourselves.

We don't recommend taking part in the Meat Raffle though, last time poor Harry Piles didn't shit right for a month.
