Ep12. Clare Perkins: Learning against the odds

Clare Perkins is a British acting legend, having starred in plays, TV, radio and film. This episode was actually recorded before the summer, but a little bout of isolation gave me the time to go back to the episode and I am SO glad I did, because Clare is wise, hilarious and completely unapologetic about expressing how she feels. We spoke about the myriad experiences that create a united womanhood, giving ourselves permission to be angry and the pleasure of sharing a love of reading, storytelling and books. All Clare's figures of influence share a fight to become educated in settings that are trying to keep them down, and I loved chatting about the joy found in resistance.

Ep11. Charlie Craggs - Extremely Iconic Icons

We are back for Season 2! I am not really sure what justifies having a Season 2, but after 10 eps and a big summer break that I thought it could be time. I am coming back with guest of all guests - activist and author Charlie Craggs. Charlie is the founder of Nail Transphobia, an organisation that seeks to educate people on trans issues and create new allies while giving manicures. We spoke about challenging perceptions of victimhood, the role of incredibly iconic icons, and the importance of remembering and memorialising trans figures who otherwise might not be remembered by the books. Charlie is hilarious and iconic herself, as well as being so thoughtful and passionate about creating change. I loved speaking to her, and I hope you love listening to.

Today's episode features author Maame Blue. Her novel, 'Bad Love', was published last year Jacaranda Books’ #TwentyIn2020 authors and has recently been awarded a Betty Trask Award. Chatting to Maame was both hilarious and affirming, and we spoke about the trials and tribulations of working out who you are in your twenties, feeling and expressing yourself through other people's art, and the the importance of friends who know your worth maybe more than you do. I am so grateful that Maame took the time to speak to me: it was so much fun and I hope you come away from this episode feeling as warm and fulfilled as I did after our conversation.

Today's guest is writer and performer Zelda Solomon, Co-Founder of theatre company 'Sexy Asians in Your Area'. Our conversation is a bit longer than my others, only because we spoke for hours and it became impossible to narrow it down. We chatted about hybridity and the role that plays in Asian identity, as well as working through your own understanding of yourself versus other's interpretation of that, and the importance of friends and heroes in that process. Zelda is fab, as is Sexy Asians in Your Area, and I would thoroughly recommend checking out more of their work.

Ep6. Sophie Kamlish: Always a winner, sometimes a Drawer, but never a loser

In today's episode I speak to Paralympic Athlete, World Champion and Illustrator, Sophie Kamlish. Not only has she has held the World Record for the T44 100m and competed at the London and Rio Paralympic Games, she graduated from Kingston Art School in 2019 in Illustration. I spoke to her while she is training for the Tokyo games this summer, and we chatted about the world of Para-Sport, how she manages her athletic and creative careers and her eyebrow plucking regrets. Sophie is literally amazing. She also designed the Bosom Logo!!

I spoke to Angelyn in Hong Kong and we had an amazing conversation about re-defining success and what it means to be a woman in International Law. This episode is not just for people who are interested in the corporate world, but for anyone who might be questioning their life path at the moment (very much me).

My guest today is Singer, Teacher and Tree Warden, Natanya Phillips. After studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Royal Academy of Music in London, she has sung with vocal ensembles such as the Monteverdi Choir, The BBC Singers and The Cambridge Singers. With a musical career many could only dream of, it was amazing to talk to her about women in power, the importance of mentors and trying to sing while you're 'emotionally constipated'.
