Considering that death is the one sure thing in life, our society is pretty rubbish at talking about it, and it's terrible at supporting the bereaved. This episode looks at why people are so uncomfortable talking about death, dying, and bereavement. We look at death culture through the ages (and a little about different cultures), the five stages of grief and why it may not always be helpful to grievers.

We give examples of dickish things that have been said and offer suggestions for kinder alternatives.

Not all disabilities are visible; the symptoms that people experience can fluctuate and yes, young people can be disabled too. We live in a society where those of us who are able-bodied don't see the world of disability beyond the wheelchair symbol, we're surprised when a person we know who appears young and healthy to our eyes explains that they have a disability. Because we can't see it we react with 'but you look so healthy', 'but you're so young', 'but you don't look disabled'.

By telling women and girls that they are not like the other girls your are setting them apart. You are generally saying they are special and the rest of womanhood is a bit shit. STOP IT.

If you use the term yourself, please investigate why you want to be set apart from the other women. When in fact we can all be uniquely & similarly fab!

It's a dick thing to say and we are not here for it anymore!
