This show was release in the height of the pandemic and is charging forward towards its 3rd season. Listen in as Eilijah gushes over the dialogue and Colin makes the case for this show being kinda ground breaking.

Correction: In one line Elijah attributes a piece of dialogue to Uncle Clifford when it was the character Diamond for all you super-listeners looking to see if we caught that.

Cowboy BeBop: A Mixtape of Genres

Colin’s first anime he watched on purpose (the others he didn’t know were anime.) We break down the 90s animation masterpiece Cowboy Bebop. Did Elijah Convert Colin into an Otaku? He might have gotten pretty damn close. We get into its mastery of visual storytelling, and its subtle world-building, and get into a bit of a debate about whether the “dramady” is just a made-up thing. We also reflect on the mash-up of genres that Cowboy BeBop prefect and many shows tried to copy.

Star Trek - Discovery: The Coldest In The Franchise

Just when you thought we were done, Star Trek pulled us back in! Two Trekies couldn't miss the opportunity to break down the pilot of the excellent Star Trek Discovery. We geek out a little on this one, but how could you not when Discovery serves as both a prequel, a reboot, and a departure for the series? In a risky pivot, Discovery is a character study, centering on our first Black woman protagonist. Did the pilot nail the relaunched? Well based on the fact that Paramount + is the home for an entire universe of Star Trek content, we can safely say yes.

We're going back to school with Netflix's insanely popular and Jenna Ortega's star vehicle Wednesday. How do you take an 80-year-old piece of IP and rework it for today's forever online audience? Take the most charming member of the family (no not the hand), stick her in a Hogwarts-inspired magic school, throw in a pinch of graphic violence, a potential trouple, and inject the whole thing with a murder mystery and you got yourself a franchise. Oh and having Tim Burton direct, the dudes from Spider-Man 2 write, and the modern-day scream queen star doesn't hurt.

Still we are pretty excited to break down the show that was half the reason we started The Episode One Show. Elijah and Colin bonded on wanting to write for TV and often we cited The Bear as our example as to why. We get into a little of the Emmy's controversy surrounding the show (we both agree it's not a comedy,) and then break down how this incredibly tight 30 minutes of TV sets up what will probably be considered the first classic of the post-Covid era.
