Lizzy and Ciara are joined by Dr. Erica Tibbets, a lecturer at Smith College, to discuss USRowing's Gender Inclusion Policy & dispel the myth of fairness in sport. They discuss the recent articles that bash USRowing's policy, which is progressive in its openness to racing under your chosen gender, and explore the nuances of power dynamics around gender in sport. The trio discuss the transphobia that pervades these articles and the importance of youth sport having a development-focused approach rather than a "win at all costs" mentality.

That's right, folks, Lizzy & Ciara are joined by the one and only Jay, a coxswain on a men's rowing team known for their iconic TikToks around our sport, their wholesome team, and incredible listing capabilities. Jay's TikToks have jolted rowing into the mainstream, reaching audiences well out of our little world and exploring the role of the coxswain to those who have literally no idea how to even begin spelling that word. In this episode Jay chats about their trip & fall into collegiate sport, how they came to accept their gender identity, and the supportive Men's team that's got their back.

Simone Azure - Chicago Rowing Union, Masters Rowing, and HOCR Kidney Stones

Phillip Carlisle - DC Strokes, the Stonewall Regatta, and Creating Community

HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE! To celebrate Pride Month Lizzy & Ciara are highlighting the LGBTQ+ rowing clubs in the US - DC Strokes & Chicago Rowing Union. This episode features the interim President of DC Strokes, Phillip Carlisle. Phillip shares the history and importance of the LGBTQ+ community rowing space and talks about their premier event of the year, the Stonewall Regatta. Winning wine for first place? Say less. Phillip also shares the club's current stance on USRowing's choice in hosting both Youth and Masters Nationals in Florida, which is currently targeting the LGBTQ+ community through harmful policies.

*This episode was recorded on Monday, June 13th. USRowing and DC Strokes have since been in conversations around the boycott and are finding ways to amend the selection process for future regattas.
