And, I love men. I really do. I see so many men struggling to reconcile how to embrace their identities in healthy, empowered ways, being held back by fear of call outs, judgement, and shame. I see men who truly want to learn how to be part of a solution, and not part of the problem, shutting down from connection because they don’t want to make a mistake. I believe in the possibility of a world where people can relate without shame or fear, and I’m committed to finding out how we could build such a world, together.</p><p>Our global culture seems to be at a turning point, and I’m having these conversations with men in my life, as well as people who love them. Some of them are ‘experts’ in particular fields; all of them are experts on their own experience. He has worked as an engineer, brewer, ski designer, sailor, math teacher, rigger, book editor, and more. His current focus is on mental health and addiction recovery. His exploration in that area has taken him into men's work and shadow work. Niels has suffered from chronic pain since a nerve injury in 2009, and through research and experimentation on his own body, he has been able to transform his experience of pain and regain an able-bodied lifestyle. But, it's about getting the people around you to be alright with it, to be on board with it, and having the difficult conversations with them.... because that's the thing that holds us in these really hard roles: the people around us."</p><p>~ Oliver</p><br><p><br></p><p>Oliver is a Psychology student at the University of Victoria and a practicing Clinical Hypnotherapist. His training comes from various sources: college, university, and private classes. He has been working in clinics as a support person for over 10 years and continues to develop his compassionate listening skills. He is a passionate reader of many topics: philosophy, political science, psychology, and sociology. His training includes clinical hypnotherapy, reflexology, and aromatherapy. His active studies include Co-regulation and self regulation strategies; boundaries; intersectionality; gender studies; attachment; post traumatic stress disorder; and trauma informed care. She is an intimacy coach &amp; coordinator, sexuality educator &amp; curriculum developer, advocate, community leader, creative producer, and artist. In the past 5 years she has educated and worked with over 4000 people on healthy sexuality and relationships. Currently she is known as Victoria’s Consent Captain where she supports events to create safer spaces and educate communities on the nuances of consent. I know both of these men through different communities that practice <a href="https://www.zegg.de/en/program/zegg-forum/52-zegg-community/144-zegg-forum.html" target="_blank">Zegg Forum</a>, a community vulnerability ritual, and our conversation covers a lot of ground on men's work with emotions, vulnerability, and the incredible impact this has on men's relationships to themselves, and the others in their lives.</p><br><p>James Bell helps people get unstuck in their lives using a combination of coaching, deep breathing and bodywork. He has also been involved in mens' work as a member of the Samurai Brotherhood for the last 2 years. If we want to move forward as a society, everyone needs to learn about this, but doing this in a way where we are forcing people into it?... There's a lot of animosity among a lot of young men... they see it as an attack on them. They see the conversations around consent and trying to be a better person as that there is something <em>wrong</em> with them."</p><br><p>~ Justin Roll</p><br><p><br></p><p>In this episode we're talking about Consent: what is it as a concept, what is it in practice? What's the difference between seeking permission and finding a space of mutual agreement? Both identify as queer, having been assigned male at birth. It was an absolute joy to chat with both of them about queer perspectives on masculinity, and on embracing aspects of masculinity as a conscious choice.</p><br><p>Levi Chase is a queer, non binary facilitator and volunteer counsellor. They do work in men’s circles and are passionate about healing and supporting men and masculine people to learn new and healthier ways to express and experience masculinity.</p><br><p>Bram Singleton describes themselves as queer in gender, and queer in orientation. We talked about Chris' experience growing up within the white-christian-western-male trope of maleness, the archetypes and role models for masculinity, and the "rewilding of the masculine". We talked about He-Man, Star Wars, Trump, and the damage of the culture where men know they are judged by criteria external to themselves, whether or not they signed up for that.</p><br><p>"All men are real, there's no un-real men...
