As you may have heard, 7 News reporter and former Bachelorette Georgia Love posted an incredibly offensive video about Asian people on her social media this week. People are rightfully outraged at this video and its lacklustre apology. And many have been using their platforms to educate people about racism towards the Asian community, particularly writer and activist Alyssa Ho.

So I thought on today's episode we would go back to my February interview with Alyssa. I want to use this week's podcast episode to elevate the educational resources Alyssa Ho has provided us through her platform. So EXCITED!!!!!!! to release today's episode of The Nasty Woman Club!!!! I got to interview Chanel Contos who is the definition of inspiring + badass. For the past month she's been calling out rape culture in Australia's school and demanding sexual consent to be at the forefront of educational issues in school from a young age. Over 30,000 people have signed her petition and almost 5,000 people have written in testimonies sharing their experiences of sexual assault and sexual harassment while in school.

During this chat Chanel and I discussed the importance of men and women identifying internalised sexist behaviour, rape culture in schools, the current climate in London following the murder Sarah Everard and the importance of teaching children about consent and the proper terms for their “private parts."

Hanelle Harris is the director, writer and producer of 'SIS' - an upcoming sketch show on Comedy Central. The show is dedicated to brown voices finally having their voices heard. Because often in the film industry movies and television shows that feature Māori people often stereotype them and tell their stories through a white person's perspective.

This week on The Nasty Woman Club podcast host Demi Lynch spoke with Hanelle about how the media can influence our bias towards people of different cultures, backgrounds and races. She said having white perspectives speak on the behalf of Māori people dehumanises them and can encourage discrimination, in particular racial profiling. The filmmaker also discussed how colonised countries need to repair their relationships with their Indigenous people as many are still experiencing the after effects of colonisation.

Kate Elizabeth is a police detective just like Olivia Benson from Law & Order SVU. She also recently got married - in fact her and her partner were one of the first couples to get married in New South Wales after same-sex marriage was legalised. Another fun fact about Kate is that she loves to plan - she's not ashamed to admit she has a Type A Personality.

But she didn't plan on getting cervical cancer earlier this year.

Kate asks that the one thing women should take from this interview is to make sure they are up to date with their pap smears. She says women shouldn't fear the smear.

Imagine being locked up in your room for over a year? Imagine not being able to go outside and do the simple things many of us take for granted - exercising, seeing our friends, going to the shops, even going to work? There are currently 120 men detained at Kangaroo Point Central Hotel in Brisbane. And they have been locked up there for over a year. These men are refugees seeking asylum in Australia. Yet they all have been imprisoned like criminals. 

On this week's episode of 'The Catch Up' host Demi Lynch speaks to one of the refugees locked up at Kangaroo Point. Kazem Kazemi has been locked away in his room for over 13 months. He doesn't know how long he'll stay there, where he'll go next - no one is telling him and the other men anything. Demi also spoke with photojournalists Kasun Ubayasiri and Ari Balle-Bowness who have been documenting the protests happening outside the complex. They spoke to Demi about how the protests started and how activists are determined to set these men free.
