<itunes:summary>Join Peter and Emma, two casual F1 fans who’ve gotten a bit too obsessed with the sport, to discuss all the week’s racing. Whether you’re a long time F1 fan, came in from Drive to Survive, or followed the One Direction to F1 pipeline, we hope you’ll enjoy our discussion of both the serious and the silly aspects of the Formula One circus. We’ll also cover Indycar, Formula E, F2, and F1 Academy in detail and keep an eye on what's happening in WEC, ELMS, IMSA, IndyNXT, FRECA, GB3, etc, etc. So if you’d like to hear us discuss the main on-track talking points, but also want to know which F1 driver has big eyes like an anime character, or if you missed any passive-aggressive inane chit chat between Crofty and Ted in FP2, then this is the podcast for you.

Hosted on Acast.

This week we cover the F1 Grand Prix from Suzuka and the Indycar race at Barber. In F1, both Princess Akiko and Princess Peach were in attendance to see if the Mercedes Wolves would continue to lead the pack. However it was Bear that changed the race, as the new regulations claimed their first, but almost certainly not last, crash. In Indycar, Marcus Armstrong keeps threatening a road trip to Vegas if he wins, but it was the teams playing roulette as no one knew if it was a red or black race. Apart from that confusion, we were mostly searching for someone, anyone, to battle Álex Palou, but first any challenger had to defeat Indycar’s greatest foe, pitstops.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

This week we cover the F1 race in China and the Indycar race in Arlington. In F1, the mechanical carnage predicted last week comes true, as only 15 of the 22 cars finish the race. Still, we got to see plenty of leapfrogging, the new term we invent for the ‘artificial’ racing we get with these new regulations. We also cover the opening rounds of F1 Academy, where this year over 66% of the field are rookies. Luckily, we only have to wait 10 more weeks before we see them again! In Indycar, Marcus Ericsson gets his first pole since the Harlem Shake craze, but can he convert it to a win as last years Herta pit stop curse spreads to the whole Andretti team.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

This week we cover the return of Formula 1, with some new teams, new regulations, and some new (and old) drivers. We also cover Indycar at a short oval in Phoenix and the F2 support races.

This week sees the welcome return of Indycar and we cover all the action from St. Petersburg. To make up for 6 long months of off-season, we binge watch FP1, FP2, qualifying, warmup, and the race itself which proved to be an overdose of Will Buxton for Emma, who also binged Drive to Survive season 8. A new season offers new possibilities, but it was familiar themes that dominated the weekend: Palou brilliance, Penske being good, Mclaren almost competing, and terrible luck for the Andretti #26 car. We discuss all the driver, team, and rule changes for 2026, that are supposed to deliver better racing. We also ask what success might look like for each team, from a constructors championship for Mercedes to not coming last for Aston Martin and Cadillac.

This week we present our preview/primer for the upcoming Indycar season. Although, we do admit it’s a little early, given one driver hasn’t been officially announced and it’s even unclear whether one team will actually participate this year. Still, we review some of the reasons why we love Indycar, before discussing the cars, the tracks, the teams, and the drivers for 2026. We try to give a bit of information and context for all the teams, including the ultimate simplification of just calling a certain team, team evil.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

This week we cover the famous 24hrs of Daytona, traditionally the start to the racing year. Although, this time, it was actually more like 17 hrs of Daytona due to a thick blanket of fog for most of the night. In fact, the only car that could be clearly seen was the fluorescence green and yellow number #911 car, or equivalently, the grello’s in the mist. Still, we got to see drivers from all our favorite series, IMSA, WEC, Indycar, Formula E, F1 (formerly), and F2 race each other. In GTP, the question was could anyone stop Penske Porsche from winning a third Daytona in a row. The question in LMP2 was whether first lap first turn carnage could actually affect a 24 hour race, and in GTD, the question was whether nominative determinism meant the number #1 car could only finish first.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

This week we cover the first proper race of the new year, namely Formula E in Mexico. In the 150th Formula E race, we saw DS Penske incorrectly celebrate for too long, Nyck De Vries sit in a broken car for too long, and Edo Mortara wait too long (to take his final attack mode). However, it was Citroen, the not really new team who got the energy strategy perfect and got Nick Cassidy into the lead to give us a thrilling end to the race. Despite this on-track action, the post race discussion was dominated by Dan Ticktum, who attacked his fellow drivers, the stewards, random people online, and, most egregiously, the frozen food chain Iceland. Listen to find out if Emma will still defend Dan.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast. We also cover the final race of F2 where Crawford, Vershoor, and Browning appear to be competing to avoid finishing 2nd in the championship.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast. Pirelli mandated a high pressure for their tyres, but could Lando and Oscar withstand the pressure of a Max comeback. We also talk stickers, gravel, and wombats. In F2, Fornaroli can clinch the championship if Crawford, Browning, and Vershoor all underperform, which surely can’t happen. We also keep an eye on Martins, who only has 4 races left to claim his yearly victory in F2.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

This week we cover the Las Vegas Grand Prix where sparks were flying, although sadly for Lando and Oscar, it was mainly from their titanium skid blocks. In a wet qualifying session, we actually got to see wet tyres instead of red flags, while in the race, we got to see Lando try to bully Max instead of the other way round.

This week we cover the F1 weekend in São Paulo, Brazil, where we saw the butterfly effect in action as small differences in racing produced wildly different outcomes. Sadly for Bortoleto the Borboleta effect didn’t help him, as he crashed out of both races. We also saw a fractal crash in the sprint race as 3 cars had self-similar crashes, there was a 3 body problem at turn 1 and Max pursued a bifurcated strategy. However, it was Lando who escaped the chaos and extended his lead in the drivers championship. We also take a look at the final race in WEC, where a bad weekend for Ferrari in F1 was ameliorated by winning the Hypercar constructors championship.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

No racing of note this weekend, so instead we take a deep dive into the defunct A1 GP series, the so-called World Cup of Motorsport. Running for just 4 seasons from 2005-2009, we look at its foundation, format, competition, and eventual collapse. Finally we ask if something like it could happen today and if so who we’d like to see race.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

After covering the actual Le Mans race earlier in the year, it’s only fair that we cover the 10hrs of racing at Road Atlanta that is the Petit Le Mans. It also helps that there wasn’t much else on this weekend. The race was enlivened by various ancient creatures, namely a Valkyrie and two dinosaurs, the #77 Rexy in GTD and Scott Dixon in GTP. The #99 Spike the Dragon is a dragon, and not a dinosaur obviously. It was also the final race of the IMSA season, so we got to see the championships decided, including in the GTD class, which was over after 1 lap. We also stop by the Saudi F4 championship, just in case one of the drivers makes it to F1 and we can say that we saw them first.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

This week we cover the record breaking F1 weekend in Azerbaijan. Sadly, the record breaking is for the sheer number of red flags in qualifying and not for better reasons. However it did make for an interesting starting grid and gave us the potential for a Carlodium or a Lawsodium. McLaren and their drivers seemingly crack under their own pressure, but thankfully papaya rules remain intact, as nobody at the team had a good weekend. In F2, Crawford moves into contention in the championship, Fornaroli attempts to get spicy, Dunne gets taken out again, and new boy Stenshorne tries to get in the mix but gets mechachromed. Finally we briefly discuss IMSA in Indianapolis where Logan Sargeant returned to motorsport.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

In Indy NXT, Dennis Hauger collects another win to see off the late, but unrealistic, championship charge from Caio Collet, which does not augur well for the Palou vs O’Ward battle to come.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.

In this week's episode we cover F1 and F2 from Spa, Formula E from London, and Indycar from Monterey. In F1, pole is apparently the worst place to start this weekend as we see if anyone can stop the McLaren drivers from winning or if the rain will stop anyone from racing altogether. Speaking of the Macca boys, 2 out of 3 of their Indycar drivers delivered at Laguna Seca, with the third proving to be a seagull, rather than an albatross, around their necks. We also discuss whether race directors should use their god-like powers to determine race results; i.e. less Michael Masi, more Micheal Messiah. In F2, more post-race drama for Dunne keeps the drivers championship finely poised and Mini undergoes a mini-renaissance. Finally, in Formula E, the final 2 races of this season produced an exciting race and a boring race. Guess which one Peter was lucky enough to attend.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast. In a week where Cookie Monster was grand marshall for the Brickyard 400, Callum Ilott was instead blaming other muppets for his #90 car not making the fast 6. Colton Herta and the other Andretti drivers were looking unstoppable as usual in Toronto, but luckily for Pato O’Ward, and unluckily for his car and engineer, a local bird had earlier dropped some good omens for his race.

We waited a few days to discuss the shock firing of Christian Horner by Red Bull racing, hoping for more details to emerge. However none did, leaving us to speculate wildly on the reasons and how it will affect Max. In Formula E, the pressure was measured in Pascals, as Wehrlein hoped to stop Oliver Rowland from being crowned champion, but in rain affected races, it was this season's forgotten men of Evans, Cassidy, and Dennis' time to shine. Then to Indycar, where we go from nice weather for ducks in Berlin, to nice weather for los patos (O’ward), as tornados upset proceedings in Iowa.

This week in Formula 1, the Lando-stans in the Lando-stands (and possibly also in the stewards room) hoped to celebrate a home grand prix at Silverstone. A wet race did create a final destination situation for the rookies, but added a pleasing degree of randomness to proceedings. In F2, Alex ‘Doona’ got his championship fight back on track and it was Browning’s turn to bully Martins this week.

This week we cover the F1 from Austria, where we saw Lando dominate FP2, FP3, and Qualifying, thereby putting himself in prime bottling territory for the race. We also saw Carlos and Max demonstrate their precognitive powers by deeming their cars undrivable. Emma jumps back on the Liam hype-train, while also getting off the Yuki train, and briefly off then back onto the Kimi train. Peter, meanwhile, jumps on the McLaren conspiracy train, as Oscar almost violates the sacred Papaya Rules. In F2, old man Richard Verschoor had a good weekend, Pepe Marti made his case for best Red Bull Junior, and Gorden Bennett, we saw John Bennett on sprint pole. However, it’s Alex Dunne who continues to be the main character of F2, despite not having the best time on track.

Music provided by Sascha Ende under the CC BY 4.0 license: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

Hosted on Acast.
In Formula 1 from Canada, Max and George renew their ill-tempered conflict, so surely they’ll be the cause of a significant crash. In F1 academy, we got a bonus set of 3 races with 3 different grids, so surely we won’t see the same person place 2nd in every race. In the 24 hours of Le Mans, plagued by bugs, the Cadillacs were looking strong, so surely we’ll finally see someone other than Ferrari win a WEC race this year.
