Today we wrap up our discussion on how a society progresses. We talked about what it means to be progressive, where our society is heading, and the big dangers of regressing to the nostalgic past. We must always remember don’t have the option to go back and relive the past. The only option we do have is to keep moving forward and using the present to create the best possible future. To achieve self-realization, people must adapt not only to the outside environment but also to their inner world as well. How we decide to view the world we live in and adjust to changes is what will decide the nature of our glorious future.

Hosted on Acast.
In our latest episode we continue to discuss the difference between progression, which is the act of moving from one thing to another, versus regression, which is an action of returning to a previous state. A society must evolve to meet the basic human needs of its citizens. This includes establishing the building blocks that allow citizens and communities to enhance the quality of their lives, and creating the conditions for all individuals to reach their full potential. A society which fails to communicate effectively, address basic human needs, equip citizens to improve their quality of life, protect the environment, and provide sustainable opportunity for its citizens will not succeed. Adaptation to the outside world involves the forward flow of physical and psychic energy; this is what we call progression.

Hosted on Acast.
Today Dr Harry dives headfirst into the conversation of what it means to be Progressive, and the pitfalls that lie in Regression, or the desire to return to the bygone eras of the past. This is a topic which we believe many people may need to hear, especially given the uncertain times that we currently live in. The ultimate, yet necessary, process of swapping out the old with the new. The "Changing of the Guard": can also describe any situation in which an individual or group charged with responsibilities in an organization is relieved or replaced by another individual or group. With this in mind, now is the time for people to use every second of their present day to help create the beautiful future we all dream for. We hope you all tune in to our next couple of episodes to tap into more of this discussion!

Hosted on Acast.

Today Dr Harry dives into the topic of the good, the bad, and the ugly: RELATIONSHIPS, which is a topic many people find themselves in regularly. Navigating relationships is a life skill that most struggle to acquire, but the key to is all is communication, honesty and self awareness! Everyone has slightly different social needs, but it's up to you to figure out what your social needs are, set priorities, and to always build enough time in your schedule to create an optimal social life. Who are the priority people in your life? What is your schedule? Are you getting enough face-to-face time with your friends? When’s the last time you’ve been out? Navigating relationships is a life skill that most struggle to acquire, but the key to is all is communication, honesty and self awareness! Everyone has slightly different social needs, but it's up to you to figure out what your social needs are, set priorities, and to always build enough time in your schedule to create an optimal social life. Who are the priority people in your life? What is your schedule? Are you getting enough face-to-face time with your friends? When’s the last time you’ve been out? What are you doing to nurture your relationships with friends and family? All of these things revolve around your ability to communicate and meet your needs both as an individual, and as a collaborative member of your social world.
Dr Harry is what you would call a Progressive; and as always he shares with us the wonderous joys advancing ourselves and moving on from the past. There are always people out there looking to return to the glory that was "the good ol days." There are those out there who feel that the progress society makes comes with certain flaws. Today's topic is regression: which is the state of becoming less advanced; returning to a former or less developed state. Sure, progress comes with a few tough breaks, but couldn't you also say the same about regression? Haven't we worked so hard in the past to create the present we have now? Don't we work hard presently to create a future different from what we have now? Who would want to go back to the past? Was the past even all that great? Who would work hard for things to stay the same? The pursuit of knowledge is easier than ever thanks to our 21st Century high tech society; we are all driven by cell phones and super digital, information highways. Anything you don’t know is a Google search and an article away. Is there any excuse to be ignorant in modern times? Why would you want to stop progress in the name of regress? We welcome you all to join this conversation and leave us your feedback.

Hosted on Acast.
In this episode Dr Harry discusses more special interest groups such as NORML, PILLAR and USTL among others, all dedicated to helping reach out to politicians in Washington about the issues that people care about. The idea of imposing term limits for Congress has been debated by the public for centuries. There are pros and cons and strong opinions on both sides of the issue, perhaps a surprise, given the electorate's less-than-flattering opinion of their representatives in modern history. Can you think of good arguments in favor for or against having term limits in Congress? What do you think? Proponents of term limits argue that restricting the service of lawmakers ultimately prevents politicians from amassing too much power and becoming too alienated from their constituents. Can you even imagine the mindset of someone in Congress since the 60s? Is it a helpful one? The thinking is that many lawmakers view the work as a career and not a temporary assignment, and therefore spend much of their time posturing, raising money for their re-election campaigns and running for office instead of focusing on the important issues of the day. Those who favor term limits say they would remove the intense focus on politics and place it back on policy. Official campaign to pass a bill for TERM LIMITS in the US. The mission of USTL is to enact term limits on all eleced officials in the country, especially in Congress. https://termlimits.com

Hosted on Acast.
Part 2 of 3 of our special episode breaking down the current state of political affairs in America. Political and civic life in the U.S. ultimately rests on a simple set of fundamental principles and values including freedom, equality, rule of law, limited government, etc. What are we doing to make sure these priorities remain vital? What are the big questions we should be asking as citizens? Why are elected officials buying and selling stock using their security clearance? Should this be legal? Or is it more like giving an addict a bag of coke, a razor blade and a dollar bill? Should we legalize marijuana? Political and civic life in the United States rests on a set of fundamental principles and values including equality, rule of law, limited government, and representative government. Equality, rule of law, limited government, and representative government are examples of fundamental principles and values in American political and civic life. What do those principles and values actually mean? What does it mean to have equality? What does it mean to have freedom, liberty and justice? What is the law and our government supposed to do to make our lives better? We tackle the big issues in this portion and start to get more into what our government should look like and what we actually elect our representatives to do.
Today we discuss social issues and ethical practices that occur in our nation's capital. We also tackle lobbyists, gas prices, stocks, insider trading and many more interesting topics. Insider trading is the trading of a company’s stocks or other securities by individuals with access to confidential or non-public information about the company. Taking advantage of this privileged access is considered a breach of the individual’s duties. For many years, members of Congress have routinely exploited legal loopholes to engage in insider trading and line their own pockets — which of course is a criminal offense for all citizens.
Welcome back to all of our listeners! Here’s another fresh episode of The Right Angle! Today Dr Harry discusses veterans, the challenges they face during/after their service, & also what politicians should be doing to help. Why don’t all veterans have adequate support? There’s a long list of things vets SHOULD have access to. Healthcare, free. Education, free. Job training, anything they need… shouldn’t they get this for all their years of service? On any given night there are at least 100k homeless veterans across the U.S. 30% of vets have disabilities as a result of their service. There has been no proper care for #veterans and we have not rewarded them.. we do not have servicemen who are taken care of.. we have hardened men and women who have gone to hell and back… but are still standing outside, living on the streets, trying to survive. Do you think politicians are doing enough for our veterans?
Part 2 of 2 - Dr Harry continues to breaks down the “Big Pharma theory” - Specific variations of this theory include the claim that natural alternative remedies to health problems are being suppressed - such as cancer cures that have been discovered but hidden from the public, COVID19 vaccines being ineffective, and that alternative cures are available. The main argument is that pharmaceutical companies are slowing down research for comprehensive cures for diseases like cancer and other deadly viruses by developing high-profit, single-purpose treatments; as opposed to focusing on any supposed cure-all for these sicknesses.
On today's TRA episode we discuss law enforcement, criminality, fugitives, and even more exciting... high speed chases! What most people may not hear about this topic is that high speed chases are recognized as a huge safety problem (all excitement and sensationalism aside) as in most instances, there is harm done to non-involved vehicles, street furniture and innocent pedestrians as elusive drivers will usually violate a number of traffic laws repeatedly in their attempt to flee from pursuing police cars. In the U.S. alone chases related incidents claim 300-400 lives per year. The big questions today: why the hell do people lead the cops on these chases? Is it worth the risk? Has anyone ever gotten away? How long can someone run from the law? What would you do in this position? What would you say to someone who runs from the law? <itunes:summary>On today's TRA episode we discuss law enforcement, criminality, fugitives, and even more exciting... high speed chases! Answers to these questions and more on today's episode of The Right Angle with Dr Harry Hypotenuse.

Hosted on Acast.
Capital punishment has always been a heated discussion since the dawn of mankind. How do most people view the topic of capital punishment? Does this system restore justice and heal wounds created by crime, or is it as barbaric as the crime commited? There are arguments in favor of it (retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation, etc) and also against it (right to life, brutality, expense, etc) and as always we seek to find "The Right Angle" on this topic.

Hosted on Acast.
