I'm So Not Over It is coming to the Machynlleth Comedy Festival and tickets are available now!

Esyllt Sears and Gareth Gwynn will be joined on-stage by the brilliant Benjamin Partridge of Three Bean Salad and The Beef And Dairy Network to discuss Ben's choice for The Xennial Dome and cover a month in recent history. It's on Sunday 3rd May at 6pm. Come along!

St. David's Day with SIAN HARRIES

It's St David's Day!

(Or it is on March 1st, so it slightly depends when you listen to this episode).

Either way, we've decided to do an episode that is unambiguously and unashamedly Welsh. I mean, they ALL are really, but this time we're going to lean into it - and who better to talk about all things Dewi Sant than the superb Welsh comedy writer SIAN HARRIES!

Sian is the co-writer of the hit BBC One comedy-drama Death Valley, Channel 4's Man Down, is one of the writers and stars of BBC One Wales' Tourist Trap and the S4C sketch show O'r Diwedd. She also co-presents The Froth Podcast with Rhod Gilbert. Sian talks us through some of the most miserable meals and uncomfortable costumes you've ever heard about, as well as a blow-by-blow account of the secondary school Eisteddfod experience. There's plenty of picking apart the difference between English-language and Welsh-language Wales, as well as Sian's selection for The Xennial Dome, lots of relevant Winter Olympic discussion and memories of looking sad in a shoe shop at the death of Princess Diana.

September 1998 (Geri Halliwell's Car Boot Sale)

The Royle Family and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? both started in September 1998 and completely redefined their respective TV genres - but you know about those already, which is why we won't bother talking about them much. Instead, Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears cover a long forgotten Cilla Black vehicle and a Channel 4 documentary about modelling they pulled at the last minute, which are probably just as influental, but for all the wrong reasons.

Gareth Gwynn is heading to Edinburgh! Having repeatedly told people he wasn't going, it turns out he'll be doing his show "Cyril" in the Hotel Indigo Edinburgh, York Place, EH1 3JD at 4pm on the 20th-24th August 2025. It's about history, but not history you remember (unless you are over 100 and lived in Gower). That's just about all the information we have right now, but anything else, he'll pop on his website, like a BBC TV show from 2001.

As for this week? Well, we start with a peak behind the curtain. What happen when we start researching a month and think "this is a bit bleak?" Often, we ditch it and find another (which means, yes, one day there'll be a real tranche of tricksy ones to smash through - but we'll cross that miserable bridge when we get to it).

But not today! Esyllt Sears saw the death of Elvis Presley on the list and decided to push on. Somehow we also cover 1970s clothing safety standards, what to do when your friend works for a Burger King and we ask the question, how distracted have you been by a strawberry? Well, some of the world looks to Moscow because 66 countries chose to boycott that year's Olympic Games, but the ones who do turn up are treated to an obscene gesture by a Polish althlete, a cartoon with a somewhat confusing message and a genuinely moving closing ceremony. Gareth Gwynn talks Esyllt Sears through what is, technically, the cleanest Olympics of all time - before tackling MFI and Enterpriese Zones.

We are joined by the star of the legendary third series of The Traitors - the absolutely fantastic CHARLOTTE BERMAN to talk Bop-it, being banished and an awful lot more besides.

Yes, there are spoilers galore for that series (and, indeed, the very first series of Big Brother if you're really behind) but also plenty to enjoy if you've never seen an episode but wonder what life in the castle might be like.

Unusually, she's the only one NOT doing a Welsh accent, but you can expect plenty of Traitors gossip (she kept a diary!) plus Charlotte's memories of The Dome, royal deaths (not the one you're expecting) and musicals - as well as her choice for our own museum dedicated to recent history, The Xennial Dome.

May 1978 saw the first ever unwanted mass-email and the first ever early May Bank Holiday in the UK which was, surprisingly, similarly poorly received - and all this happened to a backdrop of Boney M.

Since changing the podcast name (RIP The Xennial Dome, 2021-24) we don't bother ourselves too much with generational differences on the show too much - But what happened to children's fiction about runaways? Gareth Gwynn has spent the Christmas break listening to an audiobook all about Diana (Tina Brown's The Diana Chronicles, if you're interested) and Esyllt Sears is initially concerned this is going to become his entire personality - before becoming equally engrossed in the book, herself. It's all relevant to this week's episode as January 1997 marked the beginning of Diana's landmine campaign with the Red Cross. It was also the month in which Swampy the eco-warrior (do we still use that term?) called it a day and returned to the surface.

A second helping of Christmas Leftovers - this time made up from some bits and bobs we were sad to snip out of our interview series for time.

Enjoy BBC Radio 5 Live's Elis James (live in the London Welsh Centre) discussing his family's attitude to technology, his time in a band and having a decent stab at a round of Mario Kart on a screen which, we will admit, was too big.

We've also got the brilliant comedy writer and actor Gemma Arrowsmith giving us the low-down on the Voyager mission (which came up in our July 1979 episode) plus, for reasons I'm now struggling to remember, a discussion about Welsh TV star Arfon Haines Davies and how nice he is.

If you're a Xennial (or thereabouts), December 1993 was probably "peak Christmas" and amidst all the excitement, you may well have found yourself too busy to fully take in the signifcance of Nelson Mandela's Nobel Peace prize win or the absolutely batshit timing of The Queen's letter to Charles and Diana urging them to get on the divorce train. We cover both events in this show which probably isn't Classically Festive, in the truest sense of the word - but it's what happened in 1993 and there's not much we can do about it now.

Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears are gearing-up for the Millennium on the podcast this week - and you'll probably be shocked by just how little Millennium Bug based content there is (if you remember, that was an October 1999 problem).

Turns out that back in December 1999 people were more concerned with drunken firework useage and whether or not Jesus deserves a cut of Cliff Richard's latest single. Plus there's the incredible story of Tori Murden and her trip(s) across the Atlantic.

Esyllt Sears and Gareth Gwynn welcome you to either episode 98 or episode 100 of the podcast, depending on your policy regarding Best Of episodes. It's the autumn of 2008. The financial crisis is biting. Gareth Gwynn has already lost his job, having recently been made redundant, and the freelance work is starting to dry-up. Meanwhile, the writing is on the wall for Esyllt Sears. After all, how can you work in travel PR if there's no-one out there who wants to travel? On the high street, things are starting to unravel too with the closure of Woolworths. How many blank CDRs did YOU buy? Also, the oldest person in the world died. That's unrelated to Woolworths but is covered in the show.

Stand-up comedian and Podcast Polymath Elis James joins Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears in the London Welsh Centre for the first episode in a brand new series of interviews covering cultural phenomena from the 1970s to the present day.

And who better to kick things off than Elis? A stone-cold enthusiast of The Past, we cover his early appearences on Welsh TV, why Carmarthen became the centre of the artistic universe thanks to Jurassic Park and how Welsh football fans kept-up with the latest team news when no-one else really cared.

Despite being the first show released under the new name, it was actually recorded under the old one (listen carefully and you can tell!) - but why not check-out some episodes from our back catalogue relating to topics and people mentioned in the show...

A Xennial is someone born between 1977 and 1985 - the tail end of Gen X and the older (or "geriatric", ugh) millennials.

The Xennial Dome is/was the podcast which looked back at the Xennial era - Presented by comedy writer Gareth Gwynn and stand-up Esyllt Sears, the show studied the month in xennial history, as well as interviewing notable xennials about their experiences growing up alongside the internet and leaving home just in time for a global financial crisis. Other history podcasts tackle battles and empires, legendary figures and tragic antiheroes and ours does too - but in the form of Northern Rock, 20th Century Fox and Pete Waterman.

This is the second of two Best Of episodes which draw a line under the podcast’s "Xennial Dome" era. We'll be back in October with a new name... But you'll be fine. If you coped with the Marathon, Jif and Opal Fruits rebrands, we’re more than confident you can navigate this.
