Dave explains this transition from being picked on in school to his interest in superheroes with superhuman abilities, to eventually becoming a professional Strongman. He talks about his introduction to rock sounds via his Dad’s band and friends on the school bus. Which eventually led to him playing the guitar in a band. The feats that Dave performs for his motivational seminars illustrate the mindset needed to accomplish the seemingly impossible.

Dave was attracted to the Hulk, Spiderman, Batman, or anyone with superhuman strength because he got picked on as a kid, which is where he began the process of becoming a strongman.
Dave’s first concert was Ted Nugent, which tied in some of the aggression he felt as a kid with heavy music. He’s always been a fan of Ted Nugent, Van Halen, and Pantera. He also played in bands.

Queen of Sync, Tina Parol

This week on Thinkin’ and Drinkin’ Bart talks with singer and songwriter, Tina Parol! Tina started writing songs at the young age of 11 and got her first publishing deal at 16. In her first year of college at NYU she received a record deal with Motown! Tina now works with sync, short for synchronization, which is making records to be put into shows or movies.

Tina’s first band was called Tina Parole & the Convicts, which she added the ‘e’ to her last name so it would make more sense for the convicts.

This week Bart talks with Lt. Dan Hurd, founder of One Pedal At a Time Movement, about his journey from serving in the military to where he is now. Dan talks about the ride that really changed his life, a long weekend ride with a friend that he was fighting to finish, getting some much needed advice “It’s just one pedal at a time”. He is currently on a cross country ride to raise awareness for suicide prevention. Along the way he has participated in suicide interventions, been saved by Christ, and been hit by a car. He is on pace to finish on October 10th, National Mental Health Day!

Guardian’s Lead Singer Jamie Rowe

This week, on Thinkin’ and Drinkin’ Bart talks with Jamie Rowe about his love for rock and roll that developed at an early age. Jamie saw his first concert at the age of 10 and faked being sick in the third grade to stay home and listen to Aerosmith. Jamie retells his story of recording an a cappella tape to audition for the role of Guardian’s lead singer. He also recalls meeting Gene Simmons from his favorite band, KISS, for a business meeting while he was still in full makeup.

Bart & Jamie discuss Jamie’s all-time favorite band, KISS, and the conversation he had with Gene Simmons who wanted to work with him as a solo act, but he was too old.

I grew up listening to ‘Train, Train’ almost every day at lunch time, learning his licks, hell, I even bought a Hamer Standard because that’s what he played. I went to Rickey’s hotel on the day of the Nashville Skynyrd show and we met in the restaurant that was closed to do this interview, so you may hear some backround music. Charlie Crowe

Charlie Crowe spent 12-14 yrs. bangin’ on his guitar in Brooks and Dunn, he then left and now he’s back spending weeks at a time in Vegas playing with B&D and Reba. But there’s a lot more to him than that. We’ve been friends and co-writers for years. Charlie gave me the much envied name “Guitar Holder” I’m pretty sure that’s not a compliment.

Jason Charles Miller grew up in Virginia, the son of 2 writers. He started what I would label a dark, industrial, metal band called Godhead that caught the eyes and ears of Marylyn Manson which resulting in Jason and band toured the world with him for 2 years. 7 Godhead albums later, he started kickin’ out some heavy country/southern rock and has recorded 4 albums and is killin’ it on the road. I’ve seriously enjoyed writing with Jason, and consider him to be one of my most thoughtful, interesting friends.

Born in small town Indiana, he made his way through Atlanta to Florida to become the guitarist for Matchbox 20, who in the late 90’s and into the 2000’s, sold tons of records, tons of tickets, and had tons of hits. Since then, Kyle and myself have become great friends and have written a bunch of songs.
