Classic Mountain Rose Herbs Fire Cider Recipe


Ingredients

Directions

  1. Prepare your roots, fruits, and herbs and place them in a quart-sized glass jar. If you've never grated fresh horseradish, be prepared for a powerful sinus-opening experience!
  2. Pour the apple cider vinegar in the jar until all of the ingredients are covered and the vinegar reaches the jar's top.
  3. Use a piece of natural parchment paper under the lid to keep the vinegar from touching the metal, or a plastic lid if you have one. Shake well.
  4. Store in a dark, cool place for a month and remember to shake daily.
  5. After one month, use cheesecloth to strain out the pulp, pouring the vinegar into a clean jar. Be sure to squeeze as much of the liquidy goodness as you can from the pulp while straining.
  6. Next comes the honey. Add and stir until incorporated.
  7. Taste your cider and add more honey until you reach the desired sweetness.

As she shrouds herself in the shadows of Hade’s dark realm, witches explore and embrace their own shadow side during this season. This is a time to shed old skins and turn inward to discover your own truth. Utilizing Persephone’s signature fruit, the pomegranate, this cocktail can invoke the insight and enchantment of the shadows. Replace tequila with mezcal for a smokier version of this drink.

SERVES 1

Black salt, to rim glass

2 tablespoons (1 ounce) silver tequila

1 tablespoon pomegranate liqueur

1 tablespoon pomegranate juice

1 1⁄2 tablespoons lime juice

1 tablespoon agave syrup


DIRECTIONS:

Rim a margarita glass with black salt. In a cocktail shaker, add tequila, pomegranate liqueur, pomegranate juice, lime juice, and agave syrup. Add ice and shake. Strain into a pre-pared margarita glass.

It dates back to ancient Rome, where wine was cooked and infused with various herbs to help protect against illness and the coming cooler weather. Because of its history, this is a perfect cocktail to make in the fall to accompany a harvest ritual of ancestor worship. Enjoy while sipping by an outdoor fire, or pour some onto the earth as an offering and reflect on all that life has given you. Garnish with a cinnamon stick for added protection. (Serves 6)

Ingredients


  • 1 (750-milliliter) bottle cabernet sauvignon
  • 1/2 cup pure honey
  • 4 ounces pomegranate juice
  • 3 whole star anise
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 large blood orange peels
  • 4 ounces pomegranate liqueur
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 1 red apple, sliced crosswise into 6 slices, for garnish


Directions

 

Combine all ingredients except apple slices in a large pot over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, then lower the heat to medium and simmer for 10 minutes. Pour into six mugs to share and garnish each with an apple slice.
