The Italy Men's National Team were unceremoniously dumped out of the 2024 European Championship on Saturday evening after losing 2-0 against Switzerland in Berlin.

Luciano Spalletti made yet another change of shape for the round of 16, opting for a 4-3-3, and made a raft of personnel changes from the Croatia match.

The Azzurri were not at it from the first whistle and Remo Freuler's opener towards the end of the first half came much later than it could have done.

The second half then began disastrously as Switzerland scored after 27 seconds after Italy gave the ball away immediately from their own kick-off. From there, it was clear that the holders were heading home.

The Italy Men's National Team have confirmed their place in the Round of 16 at the 2024 European Championship round of 16 after a dramatic and unconvincing 1-1 draw with Croatia in Leipzig.

After Gianluigi Donnarumma had kept Luka Modric out from the penalty spot and the Real Madrid midfielder then scored within a minute of his missed spot kick, Mattia Zaccagni struck with the last kick of the game after eight minutes had been added in stoppages to put the Azzurri through and likely send Croatia home.

Ep.72: Euro 2024 Podcast: A humbling night for Italy against Spain

The Italy Men's National Team are not certain of their place in the 2024 European Championship round of 16 after a 1-0 defeat to Spain in Gelsenkirchen.

Luciano Spalletti's side came into the game against La Roja knowing that a win would see them through to the knockout stages, but they were overawed by a Spain side that was crisp in the pass and could waltz into the final third with ease.

The fact that only one goal separated the sides by the final whistle was only down to the great display from Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper made a string of great saves to keep Italy in it, but an equaliser would have been wholly undeserved.

Ep.71: Euro 2024 Podcast: Italy beat Albania after nightmare start in Dortmund

The Italy Men's National Team got their 2024 European Championship underway with a 2-1 win over Albania in Dortmund, despite falling behind after just 23 seconds.

A poor throw-in from Federico Dimarco and some sleepy defending from Inter teammate Alessandro Bastoni allowed Sassuolo's Nedim Bajrami to fire in what was the fastest goal in European Championship history.

The Azzurri didn't let their heads go down, though, and by the 16th minute, Luciano Spalletti's side were winning 2-1. A great ball from Lorenzo Pellegrini was headed in by Bastoni, and then Nicolo Barella met a loose ball on the bounce and netted the second impressively.

Italy created plenty of chances and will have expected to score more goals, with Albania not threatening until the dying moments when Gianluigi Donnarumma pulled off an important save. The Azzurri will next face Spain on Thursday, June 20, with La Roja having beaten Croatia 3-0.

Ep.65: Italian Serie A Podcast: Empoli and Udinese stay up at Frosinone's expense

The 2023/24 Serie A season has come to an end with Frosinone heading down to Serie B, along with Sassuolo and Salernitana after some final-day drama.

Empoli, Udinese and Frosinone were the teams at risk on Matchday 38 and the Canarini were actually the least likely to go down, but a loss at home to Udinese and a win for Empoli against AS Roma with a 93rd-minute goal sealed the deal.

There was also a win for Atalanta at home to Torino which confirmed that they will finish higher than fifth, which in turn means Roma cannot qualify for the Champions League and must settle for the Europa League instead.

Once Atalanta and Fiorentina face each other in their rearranged fixture, we'll have a full review podcast of the season with the whole team.

Ep.64: Sassuolo head to Serie B, three-way fight on the final day to come

Serie A Matchday 37 saw Sassuolo head down to Serie B after an 11-season stint in the top flight with their defeat at home to Cagliari also ensuring that Claudio Ranieri's side stayed in Serie A.

With Udinese and Empoli dramatically drawing 1-1 and Frosinone picking up a vital win away at Monza, there are three teams with a chance of joining Salernitana and Sassuolo in Serie B: Udinese, Empoli and Frosinone.

Elsewhere, AS Roma ensured they'll finish ahead of Lazio thanks to a win over Genoa with 10 players, and Bologna and Juventus played out an entertaining 3-3 draw that saw Riccardo Calafiori score twice.

Ep.63: Women's Serie A Podcast: Juventus beat Roma and Pomigliano are, finally, relegated!

The penultimate round of matches in Women's Serie A, Matchday 27, saw the table assume its final form with Pomigliano getting relegated and Napoli securing a relegation play-off that is likely to be against Ternana.

Pomigliano were beaten 2-0 by Como on Sunday and that result coupled with Napoli picking up a point at home to AC Milan in a 1-1 draw means that Pomigliano cannot catch Napoli, despite the two sides facing each other on the final day of the season.

The only position where there could have been movement was between Sassuolo and Inter in fourth and fifth, but Sassuolo beat the Nerazzurre 4-2 with Lana Clelland bagging a hat-trick and with Inter's season now over, every position in the table is set.

At the top, Juventus put the disappointment of losing the league title again behind them as they beat AS Roma 3-1, with Sofia Cantore scoring two good goals.

Ep.62: Italian Serie A Podcast: Bologna and Juventus in the Champions League

Bologna made history on Matchday 36 of the Serie A season as they secured qualification for the Champions League, their win over Napoli doing part of the job and a win for Atalanta against AS Roma doing the rest.

They will be joined in the Champions League by Juventus, despite the fact that they were only able to draw 1-1 against Salernitana on Sunday evening. They also had their fate confirmed by Atalanta's 2-1 victory at home to Roma, which will almost certainly be enough to ensure that they get fifth and Roma have to settle for the Europa League.

There was some amusement involving last names when AC Milan beat Cagliari 5-1, whilst Sassuolo threw away an important lead away at Genoa which makes their task of staying in Serie A a lot harder.

Women's Serie A Matchday 26 saw AS Roma continue their commitment to entertaining the masses once their second consecutive league title was confirmed, whilst Victoria DellaPeruta's great season continued.

Having recently won a ridiculous game against Sassuolo 6-5, Roma then took the scenic route to beating Inter 4-3 as they were 3-2 down with 15 minutes to play, having surrendered a lead of their own earlier in the game.

Sampdoria calmly beat Napoli Femminile 2-0 with DellaPeruta scoring twice, the second being a particularly impressive strike. AC Milan put their Pomigliano draw behind them with a 1-0 win over Como Women, whilst the matchday ended with Juventus winning 2-0 away against Fiorentina.

A lot of the weekend's interest shifted away from Serie A Matchday 35, with Parma securing promotion to the top flight and the Serie B title, but the Total Italian Football Podcast is here to talk through all of the weekend's action.

Atalanta were arguably the biggest winners at the top as Gianluca Scamacca continued his excellent recent form, while champions Inter suffered their second defeat of the season and their second defeat at the hands of Sassuolo.

Ep.59: Women's Serie A Podcast: AS Roma are champions again, Fiorentina reach the Women's Champions League

Women's Serie A Matchday's 24 and 25 featured plenty of goals for Sassuolo and lots of entertainment up and down the table, whilst Fiorentina booked their place in the Women's Champions League with a late goal. AS Roma also had their second league title confirmed thanks to a Juventus loss against Inter.

We've combined the weekend's fixtures and the midweek games into one podcast here, but the chat is of course dominated by Sassuolo 5-6 AS Roma, a game in which the Neroverde scored three goals in two minutes to make it 5-5.

On the same day, Fiorentina managed to score a 96th-minute penalty which secured their third-place finish which means they will be in the Women's Champions League. La Viola will play European football for the first time since the 2020/21 season.

Ep.58: Salernitana relegated, AC Milan's unusual hunt for a new coach

Serie A Matchday 34 proved to be the nail in the coffin for Salernitana as a loss against Frosinone sealed their relegation to Serie B, whilst there were draws in Napoli vs AS Roma and Juventus vs AC Milan.

The Granata's 3-0 loss at Frosinone on Friday night leaves them planning for a season in Serie B after what has been a terrible season. Elsewhere, Tammy Abraham got his first goal this season in Roma's 2-2 draw away at Napoli in which the Azzurri had the bulk of the chances.

There was less entertainment when Milan took on Juventus at the Allianz Stadium as the two sides played out a 0-0 draw, but the main narrative for Milan right now is their hunt for Stefano Pioli's replacement which has angered a section of the fanbase.

Ep.57: Women's Serie A Podcast: AS Roma made to wait, Dragoni returning to Italy?

AS Roma will have to wait a little longer to secure the Women's Serie A title after only drawing 0-0 with Fiorentina, but they could be signing an exciting new player in the summer.

Roma knew that a win would be enough after Juventus had beaten Sassuolo 2-1 earlier in the day, but they could only draw. Meanwhile, there are suggestions that Italy Women's international Giulia Dragoni will be joining on loan from Barcelona Femeni.

The derby in Campania between Napoli and Pomigliano ended 1-1 which is a better result for the Azzurre than it is for Pomigliano, who face a big task to avoid relegation to Serie B. Elsewhere, AC Milan won a fourth game in a row as they beat Sampdoria 3-1.

Ep.56: Inter win Serie A!

The 2023/24 Serie A title was secured by Inter on Matchday 33 courtesy of a 2-1 win against AC Milan, with the Rossoneri being the 'home' team and three players receiving straight red cards in the dying stages.

The Nerazzurri were 2-0 up and cruising before Fikayo Tomori headed Milan back into contention, but the final 10 minutes were more focused on fighting as Theo Hernandez, Davide Calabria and Denzel Dumfries were all sent off as tempers flared.

Earlier on Monday evening, Bologna took a huge step towards Champions League qualification as they won 3-1 away at AS Roma, meaning they have a seven-point lead over the Giallorossi having played a game more.

There was also relegation battle drama as Lecce won 3-0 at Sassuolo and Verona beat Udinese 1-0 with a stoppage-time winner.

Ep.55: Draws all round, Ndicka's health, Inter and AC Milan set up incredible derby

Serie A Matchday 32 was unusual for a number of reasons, one being that as it stands, eight of the 10 games have ended as draws. We say 'as it stands' due to the suspension of Udinese vs AS Roma at 1-1.

The match in Udine was suspended with less than 20 minutes to play as Roma defender Evan Ndicka had gone down with a chest problem. He has since been released from hospital and headed back to Rome for more tests, with the initial assessments showing his issues were due to a collapsed lung, having sustained a blow to his ribs in the first half.

Elsewhere, AC Milan drew 3-3 with Sassuolo, whilst Inter drew 2-2 with Cagliari, which means that a win for Inter in the Derby della Madonnina on Monday night will be enough to secure the Serie A title.

The Derby della Mole between Torino and Juventus ended 0-0, whilst Lazio's 4-1 win over Salernitana and Lecce's late victory at home to Empoli were the only games not to end in a draw.

Ep.52: Napoli grab a draw at Inter, Juventus drop points again

Serie A Matchday 29 was not as goal-laden as some this season but there was plenty of drama to get stuck into, including some distressing incidents.

As mentioned at the top of the show, Atalanta vs Fiorentina was postponed as Fiorentina director Joe Barone suffered a medical incident and was rushed to hospital in Milan. Tragically, he has since passed away at the age of 57 and the thoughts of Total Italian Football are with Barone's family.

The biggest game of Matchday 29 saw Inter host Napoli, with Juan Jesus heading in an equaliser against his former side. Also after the podcast's recording, it emerged that Inter defender Francesco Acerbi had allegedly racially abused Jesus. Acerbi denies this, but he is being investigated.

Elsewhere, Juventus dropped more points by drawing 0-0 at home to Genoa, AS Roma narrowly beat Sassuolo 1-0 with a great Lorenzo Pellegrini goal, and AC Milan were 3-1 winners away at Hellas Verona.

With the 2023/24 Serie A season approaching its final stretch, Matchday 28 threw up some real drama at the bottom of the table, while Inter stepped closer to clinching an early Serie A title with a 1-0 win away to Bologna. At the bottom of the table, plenty changed. Sassuolo claimed a vital 1-0 win over Frosinone but stayed second-from-bottom in the Serie A table, though they are just four points off Udinese in 13th after the Zebrette's 2-1 win at Lazio.

Matchday 27 of the 2023/24 Serie A season saw some big results in around the top four and the Champions League race, with Bologna claiming a huge 2-1 win at Atalanta to take control of the fight for fourth and Napoli claimed a significant 2-1 home win over Juventus. The weekend kicked off in chaotic fashion on Friday night with AC Milan beating Lazio 1-0 in the capital and the hosts ended the game with eight players on the pitch. AS Roma won big on the road by beating Monza 4-1.

Hellas Verona beat Sassuolo 1-0 in a game that worsens the Neroverdi’s crisis and may have ended Domenico Berardi's season, and Cagliari earned an equally important 1-0 win at Empoli.

Ep.45: Dropped points for Juventus and AC Milan, penalty misses galore

There were plenty of points dropped and penalties missed during Matchday 22 of the 2023/24 Serie A season, with Inter reclaiming their place at the top of the table.

The Nerazzurri were 1-0 winners away at Fiorentina with Lautaro Martinez scoring his 19th goal of the season, but Nico Gonzalez produced a truly awful penalty miss that stopped his team from getting a point.

That was a crucial three points for Inter because Juventus drew 1-1 against Empoli, having seen Arkadiusz Milik get sent off after just 18 minutes. The gap is now one point and Inter have a game in hand.

AC Milan failed to make up any ground on Juventus as they drew 2-2 at home to Bologna, missing from the spot on two occasions. Lazio and Napoli played out a shocking 0-0 draw, and Atalanta reached fourth by beating Udinese 2-0.

Elsewhere, Torino beat Cagliari 2-1, Genoa beat Lecce 2-1, Monza won 1-0 against Sassuolo and Verona drew 1-1 with Frosinone.

The big story of the weekend was yet another example of racist abuse, this time aimed at AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan from Udinese supporters. On the pitch, Milan won 3-2 dramatically.

Juventus moved temporarily top of the Serie A table with their comfortable win away at Lecce on Sunday night, though Inter won't catch up for another couple of weeks due to their involvement in the Supercoppa.

The Supercoppa was also discussed, as were its effects on this unusually scheduled Matchday 21.

Two European hopefuls lost as Fiorentina stumbled at Sassuolo and Napoli were hammered away at Torino, while AS Roma and Atalanta drew 1-1 in the capital. AC Milan beat Empoli 3-0 and Lazio won 2-1 at Udinese to take full advantage of the other sides slipping up.

Matchday 11 of the 2023/24 Women's Serie A season was one of the most dramatic yet, mainly down to Juventus losing against lowly Sampdoria thanks to a goal from one of their own loanees.

The Bianconere were away at Samp and had plenty of chances to take the lead, but Asia Bragonzi stepped up with a good header to win the game in the last 10 minutes for a Sampdoria side that are making a great fist of things this season.

AS Roma seemed as though they might copy Juventus in dropping points for a short while as they fell behind against Como. A mad second half saw the Giallorosse win 3-2, clearly feeling the effects of their recent travels.

Fiorentina closed up on Juventus by beating Inter 4-2 in an entertaining Monday night clash, whilst AC Milan dropped to eighth with a 1-1 draw against Napoli. Sassuolo also beat Pomigliano 2-0.

Matchday 16 was a good one for Inter as Simone Inzaghi's side ensured they would spend Christmas at the top of the Serie A table by pulling four points clear of Juventus, while Bologna moved into fourth place by beating AS Roma at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

Juventus' draw at Genoa on Friday night opened the door for Inter, the Nerazzurri went away to Lazio and won 2-0. AC Milan won 3-0 at home to Monza to stay third. Also in the race for Europe, Napoli beat Cagliari 2-1, Atalanta came from behind to win 4-1 at home to Salernitana, and Fiorentina beat Hellas Verona 1-0.

Serie A Matchday 13's weekend action all felt like a gentle build towards the main event; the Deby d'Italia between Juventus and Inter. The teams looking to chase the league leaders down will be pleased at the 1-1 scoreline and the Total Italian Football Podcast is here to chat through it all.

Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring at the Allianz Stadium after a great assist from Federico Chiesa, but a superb team goal from Inter that ended with Lautaro Martinez's finish meant the lead didn't last long. It ended up being an entertaining clash between two good sides, without becoming a classic.

AC Milan closed the gap on the top two by a couple of points as they beat Fiorentina 1-0 at San Siro, with a 15-year-old Francesco Camarda coming off the bench to become Serie A's youngest-ever player. There were wins for AS Roma, Frosinone, Napoli, and Sassuolo, whilst Lazio slumped to defeat at Salernitana.

Verona vs Lecce and Bologna vs Torino will take place on Monday night.

Ep.35: Inter and Juventus pull clear, set up thrilling Derby d’Italia

Another weekend of Serie A has come and gone, and it’s looking increasingly likely that we’ll have a two-horse title race this season with Inter and Juventus pulling further clear at the top. The Total Italian Football Podcast is here to chat through it all.

The two face off after the international break in what promises to be a breathtaking Derby d’Italia in Turin, after the Nerazzurri beat Frosinone and the Old Lady edged Cagliari.

Just about everybody else at the top slipped up. AS Roma and Lazio drew in the Derby della Capitale, Atalanta drew at Udinese, and Napoli fell to a shock home loss against Empoli. Even AC Milan stumbled again, blowing a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Lecce.

Elsewhere, Fiorentina beat Bologna in the Derby dell’Appennino, Sassuolo and Salernitana drew, Genoa beat Hellas Verona, and Monza and Tonino shared the spoils.

Matchday 11 of the 2023/24 Serie A season saw the possible title race take on a new complexion with the headline result being AC Milan's 1-0 home defeat against an Udinese side who were yet to win a game this season.

That defeat and victories for Inter and Juventus mean that things are starting to look a little bleak for Stefano Pioli and his side, albeit with a lot of the season still left to play. Inter's win came away at Atalanta with another superb goal from Lautaro Martinez.

Juventus went away to Fiorentina and whilst they certainly didn't excite the watching fans, they efficiently won 1-0 and they are just two points behind Inter with a lot fewer games to contend with.

Matchday 10 of the 2023/24 Serie A season was filled with twists and big results, and at both ends of the table. To talk through all of the weekend's football, the Total Italian Football Podcast is here.

Despite two huge games on Sunday evening, Cagliari demanded a lot of attention as they battled back from 3-0 down in the final 20 minutes to beat Frosinone 4-3 for their first win of the season. Casteddu's heroics gave inspiration to Napoli, too, who later fought from 2-0 behind to draw 2-2 at home with AC Milan.

Inter beat AS Roma 1-0 as Romelu Lukaku was given a frosty reception on his return to his former home, and Juventus needed a stoppage-time winner at home to Hellas Verona.

Elsewhere, Genoa won 1-0 at Salernitana, Torino beat Lecce 1-0 in Salento, Monza and Udinese drew 1-1, which is exactly how Bologna's trip to face Sassuolo ended as well.

Serie A Matchday 9 has come and gone and it left us with some big results and a couple of surprises as well, with no game taking more attention than Juventus' 1-0 win away at AC Milan thanks to a Manuel Locatelli strike. Juventus' defeat of Milan allowed Inter to claim top spot as they had already beaten Torino 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. This 2023/24 Serie A season is thrilling already, and the Total Italian Football Podcast is here to talk through a Matchday 4 that saw Inter hammer AC Milan in the season's first Derby della Madonnina.

The Nerazzurri continued their recent dominance of Milan in emphatic fashion with a resounding 5-1 win on Saturday, with Juventus enjoying a good 3-1 win over Lazio as well before Napoli slipped up in a 2-2 draw at Genoa.

Roma needed a win against Empoli and they certainly got it, hammering Serie A's bottom side 7-0. Frosinone came from 2-0 down to beat Sassuolo 4-2, whilst Fiorentina beat Atalanta 3-2. There were draws between Monza and Lecce, and Cagliari and Udinese.

This 2023/24 Serie A season is giving us a lot of early drama and talking points, and the Total Italian Football Podcast is here to talk through a Matchday 3 that saw champions Napoli lose for the first time at home to Lazio, while both AC Milan and Inter continued their 100% start to the campaign.

Lazio appear to have Napoli's number under Maurizio Sarri and that continued this season, with some Luis Alberto excellence helping them to their first points of the season. Inter hammered Fiorentina 4-0, and AC Milan looked very good in parts as they beat AS Roma 2-1 in the capital.

Atalanta got back to winning ways with a 3-0 home win against Monza, which saw a performance from Gianluca Scamacca that saw him named our Serie A Player of the Week for Matchday 3.

The 2023/24 Serie A season is finally underway, and we didn't need to wait long for surprises to be sprung. The Total Italian Football Podcast is here to talk through all of the Serie A Matchday 1 action.

After Napoli had overcome an early scare at Frosinone to win and Inter subsequently saw off Monza, both AS Roma and Lazio slipped up on Sunday against Salernitana and Lecce respectively. There was good news for the Lupi though as Andrea Belotti ended his 15-month wait for a Serie A goal, scoring twice in an excellent performance, but Lazio threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 in Salento, conceding twice after the 85th minute.

Elsewhere, Charles De Ketelaere enjoyed a dream debut for Atalanta, helping them to a 2-0 win at Sassuolo, and Juventus started well with a comprehensive 3-0 win away to Udinese.

The wait is almost over and the 2023/24 Serie A season is set to get going this weekend, with Napoli facing a tough task of defending their scudetto in what promises to be one of the most open title races in recent years. Ep.23: Fallout as Italy crash out of Women's World Cup, players voice anger with Bertolini

The 2023 Women's World Cup journey has come to an end for the Italy Women's National Team after they were beaten 3-2 by South Africa in New Zealand.

The performance on the pitch was much the same as it had been throughout the tournament, with Italy having plenty of the ball and failing to do anything with it. Whilst the action on the pitch was bad enough, things have gotten even worse for Milena Bertolini off of it.

A joint statement shared on social media by almost all of the Azzurre squad expressed unhappiness with the leadership during the tournament and with Bertolini out of contract following the tournament, it seems the end for the coach is here.

Ep.22: Italy hammered by Sweden but Women’s World Cup progression still in their hands

It was a very bad day at the office for the Italian Women's National Team as they were beaten 5-0 by Sweden in their second Group G game at the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Having decided to stick with her (seemingly) 4-2-3-1 formation rather than go to a back three which could be a five, Italy started the game fairly promisingly with Sofia Cantore showing a lot of willingness to run down the right.

As we've become accustomed to, Italy's positive possession was not translating into actual chances and it would be remiss to say that they looked like scoring. Sweden were growing into the game and then it all went wrong for Italy. Three goals between the 39th minute and the half-time whistle meant the game was over. A fourth came just after the second-half began and the fifth arrived in stoppage time.

Italy still just need a draw against South Africa to progress in the Women's World Cup, but the mood is certainly a lot worse than it was after the Argentina victory.

The Italy Women's National Team got the start that was needed at the 2023 Women's World Cup on Monday morning European time as they beat Argentina 1-0 in New Zealand. Despite that, it is not all good news.

It was crucial to get three points on the board ahead of the tough match against Sweden, as Milena Bertolini emphasised herself after the match, but there are still a lot of questions that remained unanswered about this Azzurre side.

The fact that 16-year-old Giulia Dragoni and 18-year-old Chiara Beccari were handed starts is great news, but many players were shoe-horned into a confusing formation.

The 2022/23 season of Italian football has (finally) come to a close and it is fair to say it has been an entertaining one. We had a fourth different Serie A winner in four years, which was Napoli with their first title in 33 years.

There was also an additional relegation playoff at the end of the season which was not expected, as well as an Italian team featuring in all three of the major UEFA competition finals. They may have all lost, but it's the taking part that really counts.

Ep.17: Silly Serie A playoff, Cagliari's return, World Cup final defeat for the Azzurrini

There were three games of significance in Italian football in a single night over the weekend, as Sunday saw the hastily-organised Serie A relegation playoff, the Serie B promotion playoff final second leg, and the U20 World Cup final which Italy had reached.

The Serie A playoff saw Spezia and Hellas Verona do battle at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, which was attended by Conor. The Serie B playoff final was between Cagliari and Bari, and the Sardinians claimed a late 1-0 win to seal promotion in the second leg with the first leg having ended 1-1.

Over in Argentina, the Azzurrini found themselves up against Uruguay. In the end, it was a good night if you are a fan of Verona, Cagliari and Uruguay.

Ep.16: The Serie A season that just won’t end

The 2022/23 Serie A season is ove… nope! Before the curtain finally falls on this seemingly never-ending season, Spezia and Hellas Verona will have to do battle in a brand-new relegation playoff after both sides finished level on 31 points. That aside, the regular season has come to an end with everybody having played 38 games.

There wasn’t too much to resolve on the final matchday with the Champions League places already sealed and two of the three relegation places as well, but both Atalanta and AS Roma secured qualification for the Europa League with Juventus qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

Ep.15: Spalletti leaves Napoli, Champions League places all booked up, relegation playoff awaits

Matchday 37 of the 2022/23 Serie A season has now been played out, meaning just one remains. The penultimate round saw all of the Champions League places booked up with Lazio, Inter and, AC Milan joining Napoli.

Now all eyes turn to the bottom with Spezia and Hellas Verona locked level on points ahead of their final games against AS Roma and AC Milan respectively. Should they end the season level on points, a playoff will be held to see who survives the drop to Serie B.

Ep.14: Juventus hit with 10-point deduction, Cremonese relegated

Matchday 36 was action packed for issues both on and off the field, with Juventus’ 10-point deduction overshadowing everything else to have taken place over the weekend, even with Cremonese officially suffering relegation from Serie A to immediately return to Serie B.

Juventus’ off-field issues might have played a part as they fell to a 4-1 hammering at Empoli, AC Milan thumped Sampdoria 5-1, Napoli beat Inter 3-1, Atalanta saw off Hellas Verona, and Lazio won at Udinese as well. AS Roma were unable to keep up with their fellow European hopefuls, drawing at home to Salernitana.

At the bottom, Lecce and Spezia played out a goalless draw that really didn’t suit either of them.

The Serie A season is so nearly finished… but not quite yet! We’re here to talk through all of the Matchday 35 action with the latest of our Italian football podcasts.

AC Milan, Lazio, AS Roma and Atalanta all slipped up in the race for the Champions League and the rest, with Juventus and Inter the big winners. Champions Napoli lost to Monza, too.

At the bottom, AC Milan’s loss was Spezia’s win as they drew level on points with Hellas Verona, with both likely to battle with Lecce for survival and to avoid the final relegation place.

Conor Clancy is back to host Euan Burns, Kev Pogorzelski and Vito Doria.

With the six teams fighting over three Champions League qualification spots all facing each other, it was sure to be an important weekend of action in Serie A. Whilst AC Milan, AS Roma and Juventus secured vital wins, things are starting to look bleak for Spezia at the bottom.

There was also more racial abuse in the stands to discuss, this time concerning Dusan Vlahovic and the Atalanta fans. Euan Burns is hosting with Kevin Pogorzelski and Vito Doria joining.

Ep.11: Napoli miss the chance to claim record-breaking scudetto… for now

Napoli could and should have sealed their third scudetto on Matchday 32 of this Serie A season, and Inter’s win over Lazio put it on a plate for the Partenopei. Needing just a win at home to Salernitana, Napoli conceded late to put the champagne back on ice… not that the city of Naples got the memo.

Back from the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Conor Clancy hosts Euan Burns and Kevin Pogorzelski to talk through all of the weekend’s football, having also seen AS Roma Women successfully get the job done in being crowned Serie A Femminile champions on Saturday.

Ep.10: Napoli beat Juventus to go one step away from Serie A title

Napoli are now just a step and a half away from getting their hands on their first Serie A title in over 30 years afte their dramatic late 1-0 win over Juventus on Matchday 30. The Partenopei now need to beat Salernitana and hope Inter stop Lazio from winning on Matchday 31 to be crowned champions on Sunday morning.

To talk through all of the weekend’s games, Conor Clancy is joined by Euan Burns, Kev Pogorzelski and Vito Doria.

Elsewhere over the weekend, Lazio lost at home to Torino on Saturday and after Verona had beaten Bologna 2-1 and Sassuolo had lost 3-0 at Salernitana. Sampdoria and Spezia drew 1-1 in a result that suited neither.

On Sunday, Inter won 3-0 at Empoli, Udinese beat Cremonese by that same scoreline, Monza beat Fiorentina 3-2, AC milan won 2-0 against Lecce, and Juve lost at home to Napoli in the big one.

Atalanta host Roma on Monday night.

Ep.9: Everybody slips up in Serie A’s Champions League chase… again

It’s starting to look like nobody in Serie A wants to finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League, and Matchday 30 again saw everybody but AS Roma slip up in pursuit of the remaining places behind Napoli and Lazio.

Juventus lost at Sassuolo, AC Milan drew at Bologna and Inter lost at home to Monza. Napoli themselves drew 0-0 at home to Verona and Lazio beat Spezia 3-0 in Liguria.

At the bottom, Cremonese managed their third win of the Serie A season at home to Empoli and Sampdoria drew at Lecce. Torino and Salernitana drew as well.

Ep.8: Napoli bounce back, Lazio well placed to be the best of the rest

Matchday 29 of Serie A wasn’t quite as action packed as some of those that came before it, but we saw plenty of twists all the same over the Easter weekend. At the top, Napoli won narrowly at Lecce and Lazio beat Juventus in a great game in Rome.

AC Milan slipped up at home to Empoli, as did Inter at Salernitana, and Atalanta lost to Bologna. AS Roma took advantage to go third by beating Torino away, and Sampdoria had their hearts broken late on at the bottom as they fell to a dramatic 3-2 home loss to Cremonese despite having led until the 84th minute.

There was one particularly stunning result in Serie A on Matchday 28 which saw AC Milan win 4-0 away at runaway league leaders Napoli.

That is where much of the focus lies but with all of the other teams chasing a Champions League place also winning except for Inter, we look at how long Simone Inzaghi has likely got left in the job.

It was an undramatic set of wins for Atalanta, AS Roma, Lazio and Juventus whilst a big game at the bottom between Salernitana and Spezia ended 1-1.

Ep.6: Women's Football Podcast: A special Champions League night in Rome

It was a truly historic and emotional night in Rome for all those connected with AS Roma and Italian women’s football on Tuesday.

The Giallorosse played host to the mighty Barcelona in their first-ever Women’s Champions League knockout round, and they did so in front of an incredible crowd of 39,454 fans.

On the pitch, it ended 1-0 to the Liga F leaders but Alessandro Spugna’s side put in a superb display and we’re unlucky not to grab an equaliser in the second half.

Ep.5: Lazio edge eternal rivals AS Roma, Juventus beat Inter, Derby della Capybara

It was a weekend of huge derbies in Serie A, and both Lazio and Juventus were celebrating wins over their respective rivals AS Roma and Inter on Matchday 27, coming out on top in the Derby della Capitale and the Derby d’Italia.

Things got heated in both of those games on Sunday, finishing off a good weekend of Serie A action that saw Napoli extend their lead at the top to 19 points and putting the Scudetto within reach as soon as Matchday 31. The runaway leaders beat Torino handily with a 4-0 win on the road.

Elsewhere, Atalanta fought back to beat Empoli at home, AC Milan lost on the road at Udinese, and Scotland’s Lewis Ferguson was on target again for Bologna. Even Sampdoria claimed a huge 3-1 home win over Hellas Verona to get off the bottom of the table.

Ep.4: Napoli’s lead is only getting bigger

Napoli’s lead at the top of the Serie A table has again extended and is up to 18 points after Matchday 26, with just about everybody else at the top of the table dropping points. Napoli took care of business with an impressive 2-0 win over Atalanta.

Inter stumbled to a shock loss away at Spezia to open the Matchday 26 action, Lazio were held to a goalless draw at Bologna, Sassuolo beat AS Roma in a thriller in the capital, and Juventus overcame a scare to get the job done against Sampdoria.

Matchday 25 of Serie A proved to be full of twists and surprise results as runaway leaders Napoli lost to an excellent Lazio, in-from Juventus fell to defeat at AS Roma, and a recently resurgent AC Milan were beaten on the road at Fiorentina. Fortunately, we’re here to talk through it all and attempt to make sense of it.

We had Alasdair Mackenzie at the Olimpico to see Roma’s defeat of Juventus, Ale Bai at the Meazza to watch Inter beat Lecce handily, and Conor Clancy in both Bergamo and Reggio Emilia to see Atalanta stutter at home against Udinese and then take in Sassuolo’s thrilling late 3-2 win over Cremonese.
