Our 'Local Expert' is acting Artistic Director of London Children’s Ballet (LCB), Jenna Lee, who gives us insight into how this brilliant organisation opens up the world of ballet to all children from all backgrounds in every shape and size. Our ‘Local Hero’ is author Kamapala Chukwuka who noticed that local libraries did not have books with characters in who her children recognised. She wanted to increase the diversity of what was available for her children to read and decided to be the change she wanted to see! Now she visits schools all over Wandsworth reading her stories and encouraging children to write their own. 'If you can see it, you can be it!’ is her mantra.

‘Local Hero’ Mo Smith MBE runs the charity Regenerate Rise – Reaching the Isolated Elderly - across Wandsworth. They have a lunch club in Putney and through this and their other RISE Day Services, they provide food, activities and companionship for elderly people of our community. Their RISE plus initiative smooths the transition for vulnerable people coming out of hospital.

I met my heroes this week whilst reporting for Riverside Radio from the Battersea Community Festival. Senia Dedić, founder & chair of local charity Women of Wandsworth (or WOW!) is also founder & chair of the Falcon Road Resident’s Association. Senia was planting over 1000 tulip bulbs across the Falcon Road Estate with Ana Hancock and her team of volunteers from GoodGym. GoodGym is a brilliant charity encouraging volunteers to get fit by helping their communities doing practical tasks.
