Willowbrook was inspired by the concept of voice in narrative and performance monologue as well as the simple pleasure of being read to. It was also inspired by mosaic narratives—stories told through a collection of 1st person narrators—such as As I lay Dying by William Faulkner, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver and The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolaño.
