In this final episode on the Book of Mormon, Dru Huffaker and Marianna Richardson celebrate Christmas by reflecting on the significance of Jesus Christ’s role in our redemption through His Atonement. As women, we should reflect on Mary having a baby in a stable and a baby who is the great Jehovah. Celebrate this holy holiday by reflecting on the Book of Mormon as another testament of Christ. Marianna invites you to find your top ten scriptures that you have loved during this year’s study of the Book of Mormon.

Looking forward to our study next year, link together the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants – both scriptures look forward to the coming of the Savior. In the Doctrine and Covenants, we will learn how to prepare for His Second Coming. The Christmas season is a time to reflect on the hope and light Jesus brings.

Both discuss the tender mercies of the Lord. Think about the tender mercy moments in the Book of Mormon and the tender mercy moments in our own lives. Personal revelation is essential for understanding truth. Sincere prayer and using our spiritual gifts are crucial in seeking answers. Perfection is only achieved through personal effort but must be achieved through grace. The discussion ends with lessons learned from their study of the Book of Mormon, encouraging listeners to document their spiritual insights and experiences during this year’s study.

These three letters teach us that the distinction between good and evil is clear – there are no gray areas. The light of Christ is an influence for good in everyone. We must actively choose to invite light into our lives because charity is a state of being rather than just an action. Finally, they highlight the role of music and personal experiences of testimony in finding hope and joy – no matter our circumstances.

Even though the path of discipleship is challenging, we can find answers and eternal rewards in our temple service. Moroni's writings provide guidance for navigating life's challenges. Our Prophet today, Pres. Nelson gives us hope for the future - the best is yet to come.

The messages in Ether empower us to resist evil and return to God.

The Lord will prepare us to cross our own “great deep.” Through the vision of the Brother of Jared and the First Vision, we know that we are created in the image of God. Book of Mormon prophets prophesied that witnesses would testify of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon is of great worth to us today and was written for our day, not for the Nephites who never had an opportunity to read it. Our responsibility is to read the Book of Mormon, and not condemn it because of imperfections that are in it. Believing and studying this record will allow us to enjoy greater enlightenment in the future. I can keep the commandment even when I feel alone.

Dru and Marianna discuss some of the most read chapters of the Book of Mormon – the appearance of the Savior to the Nephites after His resurrection. Dru talks about how these chapters were pivotal in her own conversion to the gospel. Even though so many signs had been given, the people were still surprised by the signs of His death. Three hours of extreme devastation can feel like a long time. The symbols of darkness and light were very much a part of this story. The Nephites groaned in sadness for the loss of their loved ones and their cities and homes. But the darkness gave way to light when the Savior, the light of the world, descended to the temple in Bountiful. There, the Savior taught the people who were at the temple. We can hear Him in our temples today. It truly is the House of the Lord. We can find Christ there – His peace, joy, and love. There were 2,500 people at the temple. Each person was invited to feel His hands and feet. Jesus cares about the individual testimonies to know for themselves that He was their Resurrected Lord and Savior. We can each gain a personal witness of Him.

All the people fall to the ground and acknowledge this amazing event. Yet, they begin to forget. They have had this spiritual moment but the people either strengthen or weaken their conversion over time. We can learn from the Book of Mormon how we can prepare for the Second Coming of the Savior. We can also be aware of those actions that will weaken our faith. The saints unite together, listen to the living prophets, and see the miracles and signs of the times. As we become His disciples, we do His work preparing the world for Him.

Having a Lamanite come to the city was common and welcomed by the Nephites. Samuel was hated because of his message, not because he is a Lamanite. The Lamanites at this point are more righteous than the Nephites. Samuel, as a prophet was giving people warning. We are blessed with prophets today who are preparing us for the Savior’s coming, too. We should rejoice in the blessings of the restored gospel.

Even when the world is going through difficult times, we can find peace by following the Lord and His Prophets. We should have hope for happy days ahead. Our spiritual foundation needs to be based on Jesus Christ. If we need to repent, we have the opportunity to change. Christ’s invitation is to all of us to come unto Him.

The striping warrior’s mothers had a powerful influence on their lives. We as women have a powerful influence on our families and our society in general. We need to share our faith with others. We can also learn how to handle unjust censure and judgment from others through the story of Pahoran. He keeps a heart of charity when the world would say he had a right to be angry. During times of need, we also need to help others. When tragedy strikes, we must keep a heart of charity for all individuals, even those whom we might want to blame for the bad situation. We can always look forward to our eternal hope. The future is bright if we live righteously.

The Nephites needed their faith in the Lord to be strengthened during this trying time. We are living in a similar time today. In the world, we can see troubles, wars, and political intrigue. We can learn from the Nephites and the Nephite prophets. We should feel the same urgency to return to the basics of the gospel, especially in our families. President Nelson, our Prophet today, is also preparing us for the days ahead, just as Alma and Captain Moroni prepared their people. Captain Moroni is a great example of living the gospel of Jesus Christ, even in the midst of battles. We can defend our families and stand fast in truth and righteousness and find peace during times of stress. By following the words of the Lord in the scriptures and the words of our living prophets, we will be prepared for whatever happens ahead.

The Zoramites are angry that they were allowed to join the Nephites and they decide to prepare for war. Alma has been preaching to his wayward people and he is grieved because of their iniquity. Alma calls his sons to him and counsels them and gives them blessings. In talking to his eldest son, Helaman, he retells his conversion story. This is a spiritual retelling. Helaman is entrusted with the records and taught how important these records are. The Book of Mormon converts people to the restored gospel. His simple task touched so many people in these latter days. Shiblon was a very righteous son, but he was warned by his father to still be careful in order to stay on the righteous path. This is advice that each of us should listen to.

Dru and Marianna talk about the power of nourishing faith through the analogy of a seed in Alma 32-35. The poor people of the Zoramites had become humble and thus, willing to hear the words of Alma and Amulek. As we plant and nourish the word of Christ in our hearts, it will grow and increase in our heart. Faith is hoping for things that are true. As we hope and act on our hope, the seed can become a tree. But even a tree needs to be nourished or it will die. We can feel the swelling or growth of our faith and these feelings are real. The humble people ask three questions for Alma and Amulek to answer: 1. Should we believe in one God? 2. How should we plant the seed? 3. What manner should we begin to exercise our faith. Alma and Amulek answer those questions in Alma 34-35. There is one God who we should look to for our salvation. Planting the seed and exercising faith is praying to God and looking to Him to help us through this mortal experience. We should pray to Him over all things. The Atonement satisfies the demands of justice and allows us to repent and come unto Him.

Dru and Marianna talk about the power of words - for good and for evil in Alma 30-31. Words can make us feel prideful, hurt, angry, and loved. This is the third anti-Christ that we meet in Alma 30 - Korihor. Korihor told people that they can do anything they want in their life because there is no God, no Christ, and no eternal law. To counteract these teachings, we need to make time for the Lord every day and do those things that allow the Holy Ghost to be with us always. The Spirit teaches us what is true. We are preparing ourselves and the world for the Savior's return. But the current state of the world would try to take us away from Christ. The world will mix small truths with false doctrine. The prayer of the Zoramites illustrate teachings of the world that are seductive to the natural man. Alma put together a dream team of missionaries to try to change these people through the Word of God. They became instruments in the hands of God.

Dru Huffaker and Marianna Richardson discuss the power of the Atonement to help us overcome our weaknesses in Alma 23-29. The Lord is there, waiting for us to turn to Him for His help. We can become converted, but we need to realize that it is a process. The Lamanites who were converted were completely changed, even to the point of taking on a new name (Anti-Nephi-Lehi) and they never fell away. We should also think about our own conversion. Are we willing to permanently change like they did? Conversion is always a miracle. Ammon found great joy in the conversion of others. He understood that his success was the Lord's success, not Ammon's success. The Nephites also opened their arms in fellowship to the converted Lamanites. We, too, must be one in Christ and lovingly welcome new members of the Church.

Dru and Marianna discuss the journey of the sons of Mosiah to preach to the Lamanites in Alma 17-22. They wanted to preach the gospel to every person - even their enemies. The traditions of their fathers or the teachings of their families caused the Lamanites to believe that the Nephites were their enemies, and the Nephites taught false beliefs. Ammon and his brothers became instruments in the hand of God. It was not easy. Their mission lasted for fourteen years, and they did not have success at the beginning. But through their service and love for the Lamanites, these missionaries softened hearts through the Word. This is the Lord's work, and He will enable miracles to happen, even though our efforts may be humble. Once the Lamanites became converted, they gave up their previous beliefs and everything else for the Lord.

In these Book of Mormon chapters, Dru and Marianna talk about two people who change a lot - Amulek and Zeezrom. Amulek was a wealthy, good man, but did not acknowledge the Lord in his life. Zeezrom was a wicked lawyer and had a lot of changing to do. Amulek gained an understanding of the hand of the Lord in His life and gave it all up to serve the Lord. Zeezrom's change is more dramatic. Also, there are groups of people who do change and give up their lives for the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Lord is so merciful and will give us every opportunity to change. We also talked about the Lord's rest which is the peace of knowing the plan of salvation and having faith in hope in future peace in the Lord. In Ammonihah, the blood of the innocent becomes a witness against the evil people of Ammonihah who are eventually destroyed. Yet these people who die in the Lord, they will receive the rest of the Lord. Alma and Amulek are put into prison, stripped of their clothes, without food, and slapped every day. Alma and Amulek cry to the Lord after the wicked priests asked them to show them their power. They were all slain by the fall of the prison, but Alma and Amulek leave unscathed. Zeezrom is found when they leave Ammonihah in a state worried that he had cause the death of prophets. Alma heals Zeezom and Zeezrom leaps to his feet and becomes an active member of Christ's church. Amulek also leaves his home and his people to live with Alma.

Dru and Marianna talk about Pres. Nelson's reminder that the most important work that we can do in these latter-days is to gather Israel. Part of that work is to do missionary work. Sometimes, missionary work can be difficult and maybe even scary. But missionary work should be natural and normal as we love, share, and invite. Friendships open up opportunities to discuss our faith. We should listen to other people's spiritual experiences and how their religion brings them joy. Alma also finds a friend, Amulek, who helps him in the city of Ammonihah and who will become a lifelong friend. With God's blessings come great responsibilities. The people of Ammonihah had become very prosperous and they denied the Church and became caught up in their wealth and wickedness. Alma and Amulek are confronted by wicked lawyers who are not trying to observe the law. Instead, they manipulate the law for their own gain. After this life, we will be restored to wickedness or righteousness, based on the actions that we have chosen to do while on earth. These lawyers had hardened their hearts and would not listen to the words of a prophet.

Dru Huffaker and Marianna Richardson talk about changed hearts and how we can keep our hearts changed. It takes an every day effort. As we change our hearts to become like Him, we will develop Christlike attributes. Previously, Alma had been both a political and spiritual leader to his people. Now, he decides to give up his political responsibilities to be a full-time Church leader. Alma goes throughout the Church to regulate the doctrine and make sure the members of the Church are still strong in the gospel of Jesus Christ. He starts in the city of Zarahemla. He asks his people over 40 questions. These questions allow us to double check and make sure our hearts are in the right place. We must gain a personal spiritual witness of Christ through a complete effort - not a half-hearted effort - to gain and keep a testimony of Christ. Alma teaches about the coming of Christ and tries to prepare them to be in His presence. Alma also goes to the city of Gideon, and he finds the people are righteous there, following the gospel of Christ. We must see Jesus who is walking beside us during our life's journey and acknowledge Him in all we do and say.

Dru and Marianna will discuss the Book of Enos and the historical books of Jarom and Omni in the Book of Mormon. Enos has a life-changing experience with prayer. We can each learn from his experience and gain a better understanding of our own prayers. Gratitude needs to be a major part of our prayers. Enos remembered the words of his father, Jacob. Our children will often remember our words from their childhood and feel our prayers for them. The Lord forgave Enos of his sins and Enos immediately gave up his sins and his guilt. After gaining his own forgiveness, Enos's mind then went to his enemies who were also members of his family. He prayed for them and asked that they would have the opportunity to return to the Lord. The books of Omni and Jarom are also discussed, along with the history of the Nephites up to the time of King Benjamin. These records help us understand the importance of keeping family records, which can bring families back together. Through the Words of Mormon, we learn how following the promptings of the Spirit, even when we don't understand why, will often have a long-term impact on others and on the work of the Lord.

Jacob taught that the Savior heals our souls. We can become reconciled with God. Even though we have made mistakes, we can be forgiven. The Nephites were also becoming wealthy with gold, silver, and nice homes. Jacob was worried about their love of money. Instead, he taught his people to put their trust in God, not the riches of this world. Jacob’s words are as applicable to our lives today as they were applicable to the lives of the Nephites. We should treasure Jacob’s words.
